Healing is just fine the way it is.What you see here is the effect of raising the bar to +20 for weeklies, and keys scaling slightly more between keylevels than before. Healing has always been spiky and binary when you scaled the keys high enough, the difference now is that healers who never went higher than +15, are now striving for +20s, and are simply not good enough.
Healers are constantly crying it seems. They cry when they actually have to heal as is the case right now and they cry when there are little healing requirements and they have to dps constantly so only the highest dps healers are meta.
As the patch is currently, I much prefer healing in raid than M+. Whenever me and my buddies do a key that's a +20 or higher for the first time, if we didn't cover at least one interrupt, there was at least one person down for the count. It gets me frustrated when I do all I can, I'm pressing my abilities, I'm using my CDs effectively, then a DPS messes up and they instantly die. In raid, it's a lot more laid back which I do like. However I do want a bit more challenge getting people up with it not being the scenario of the person being 2-shot. In my opinion, I think it'll be better if there is a nerf to damage when someone messes up a minor mechanic like an interrupt, and a buff in the raid bosses' damage in general.
This expansion is the one where for the 1st time I see more tanks than healers for m+
If they can make it different for PVP contexts why can't they make it different depending on where you are if its raid or M+ instead of either blanket nerfing/buffing abilities just make them behave differently depending on the instance type.
I will repeat myself like an old broken record here yet again...For years, I have suggested to separate M+ and Raids, previously it was mostly because of how unique gear from either source can strongly impact, if not outright required to progress and also because of how harder it gets to balance the diff Specs between ST, Burst ST, AoE and Burst AoE damages. Not to mention Tanks and Healers performance as well.Well, here we are again after all these seasons and just like with each passing season, THIS one makes it even more clearer how easy it will be to balance things in the game if M+ and Raid were truly separate, not just gear but also combat profiles.
Not interrupting in M+ should give dps a debuff to their damage instead of big damage spikes every time. This way dps &*!@ing up/not caring won't land on the healer to fix, but instead on the dps.And since sweaty dps care so much about their logs, they will start to care about interrupting.
The changes done to healing has damaged PuG so hard that for the first time since M+ has been launched I dont even want to deal with it. I did my 20s on Fortified and Tyrannical and moved on because healers are so scarce and people are scared to heal.I tried healing as a mistweaver and resto this season and it sucks ass. In Legion people took damage but I was able to heal them back up, their health did not twerk like now. I am not a healer main but I do use the healing specs of the hybrid alt because that is the only reason I choose to play hybrid. The party needs tank, I go tank, the party needs healer then I go healer. Am I tired to do either? I just go WW or go Feral. Dragonflight is just bad. I have never encountered so many jumpscares, so many cds wasted on twerking hp bars. So much mana burnt. It is not fun. It is not fun to me as a Warlock to wait a ton. It is not fun to me as a player with a healer alt. I do 16s+ as a tank/dps or healer. It just sucks ass. I dont even want to heal anymore. I dont want to touch the role. It is too stressful and there is no fun anymore in playing it. I would rather do just the 1 run or none at all than touch healing ever again the way it is. I am willing to bet that there are a ton of players like that. This expansion healing is so inaccessable for players that want to alt a healer. Its just you either main it or you can go @#$% yourself and die from a heartattack at a young age. It is like playing with 5 BDKs, 3 which do not have the capability to heal themselves as much as one and the tank that is not a BDK and you cant do jack#$%^ for their HP bar twerking. If they keep it this way, well.....it will be a slow death and the scarcity of healers will just widden. Because the reason why we had enough healers was because of people like me willing to go tank and/or healer on their alts just for a different experience in m+ and because m+ was enjoyable. Now? Now, nope. %^&* that %^&*, I'm out.
So I think the issue is less that it’s too hard or too easy and more that it’s just not rewarding or fulfilling healing. Raid feels fine once you reach challenging mythic bosses. But I’m keys as a healer you’re watching tanks do huge dps and huge healing and you FEEL meh. I personally would like to have the ability to do big hps when needed then be able to pull pseudo dps damage. I think it would be much more rewarding in easy keys if I could spot heal and pull 100k dps then pump heals on heal check fights.
Blizzard need to address class balance in general. It's terrible and the devs are utterly clueless. I have no idea how they release broken class reworks and don't question the people who were responsible for essentially breaking the game. It's sad to think you take an expansion that started off great and just trash it with terrible choices made by devs responsilbe for core elements of the game. Thankfully, there will be more seasons, so all we can do it hope they actually start paying attention to what's going on in their own game....And yeah the buff to player hp/creature damage was clearly not calculated correctly.
The only real issue for m+ is that healers were used to being obsolete and thus were used to being carried. Now all the healers who got used to being a carried spec suddenly have to actually play the game on the level of the rest of the group, sometimes even better, to time the same keys they did before. And that's simply too much for most of them. There's quite a few examples of these kinds of players in this thread.I think healing in m+ is the most challenging it's ever been, this season. And I think that's a good thing, given how it was by far the easiest role in a 5 man group before. But I also think that given the clear discrepancies between healing in raids and m+, it's becoming more and more apparent that the people working on this game can not and could not balance m+ and raiding at the same time, without implementing any drastic changes. We already have the framework with things dealing more and less damage in PvP compared to PvE, why not simply carry that over to m+ as well?Nobody who solely raids wants their class to get nerfed over and over because it's good in m+ and nobody who wants to play m+ only wants their class to get nerfed because it's dealing the most single target damage during a patchwerk encounter. It's near impossible to balance these inherently different forms of content at the same time and it's high time Ion and his friends put away their ridiculously stupid pride and admit that they suck at balancing things, so they simply need to take any given cheat, shortcut or similar they can.Make m+ templates similar to legion pvp templates for classes.Make certain abilities deal more / less damage in m+ / raid content. There's probably even more ways of fixing the discrepancies, relatively easily, it's all just up to Ion and friends, whether they can admit that they'll always fail at balancing both at the same time.
I run the Details! announcer in keys, because I run it in raid and can't be bothered to turn it off.But actually, I find it quite useful when it announced that x player died to y ability that dealt 500K damage. As you get higher in M+ it just because a case of "if you don't interrupt X, someone will die" or "if they stand in x, they will die". There isn't a lot healers can do to fix those type of mistakes later on. I find raid healing frustrating because there is so much overlap between healers - I often feel I can take my foot off the pedal and its not noticed.
I used to enjoy healing back in MoP, due to all the smart heals, having a full toolkit, and the ability to control mana regeneration by stacking Spirit.Bring back the old MoP style of Discipline Priest, for example, and you will actually see too many players wanting to heal.
Healing is a thankless role and we should all be grateful there are people playing who want to do it. Healing should be as stress free as dpsing is. The only time a player should die between attacks is if they did something dumb (stood in something, got hit by something extra, etc). It should never be a "healer problem" to fix them, or healers stressing out that they can't cleanse all the dispells (I'm looking at you bursting, priests vs other classes). The game should be more about performing mechanics correctly and less about lol one shot crazy damage.
