A really impressive and fantastic group/article to bring up for those of us who wouldn't understand. Kudos to Undaunted for sure, as killing Mekkatorque without Voice Comms is no small feat. Plus being 11/12M as of this article. That's just crazy to me. I definitely agree that automated captioning is something everyone should be using, especially with how popular a platform like Twitch is. One thing I'd like to mention, for any of the folks from Undaunted (in regards to the YouTube captioning system), if they're still around to see this-The automated caption system is SUPPOSED to be 100% active all the time on YouTube videos, as the program that handles it is meant to go through any and all videos to apply them. There are times, however, where it will NOT give a video captioning, mainly due to it having a hard time telling what language it is, or if there are spots of 'dead air'/total silence in the video, or if the audio is 'too complex', according to the site-The captions aren't available yet due to processing complex audio in the video.Automatic captions don't support the language in the video.The video is too long.The video has poor sound quality or YouTube doesn't recognize the speech.There is a long period of silence at the beginning of the video.There are multiple speakers whose speech overlaps. However, even on some of my own videos where I keep a 100% consistent pattern of speech/layout, some times the videos will just NOT get captioning, and YouTube has no answer for me/other YouTubers out there on this subject, and just refers to a link covering the situations I listed above. I only mention this because with an international audience as well as those among our community with hearing impairments, those captions are exceptionally important and this means going in and manually transcribing videos to each/every/any language as needed, which can become a daunting task. So, at least in YouTube's case, please don't think it's people not trying to be considerate of the needs of others I suppose is what I'm getting at. ^^;
Many people play WoW without sound, albeit listening to Music or whatever else... o.O
I max it out. I want my lazy roommates to all know when I am actively defending the realm of Azeroth.
As someone who has recently become mute and forced to start learning ASL due to my own disability, I found this article inspiring. Thank you for posting this.
Yes, you're like the only one that doesn't. and it's weird.
Me, an actual idiot, kept trying to turn up the sound during the video clips. /facedeskSeriously awesome that this guild exists. Kudos to all involved!
