nor did I see anything about the Witch Doctor named Bom'bay, which is clearly a tribute to the witch doctor from Bewitched...
Mr. D's Wild Ride is also a reference to the arcade game Mr. Do's Wild Ride.
I can think of a couple of other obvious references.Chet, in the Ruins of Southshore. (Weird Science)And, of course, Archeologist Harrison Jones. (I loved his Uldum quests)
Oh, and what about the "Planet of the apes" reference in Loch Modan at Ironbands Escavation Site. There is a half buried Statue of Liberty inside the site itself.
Snowmaster 9000 is unlikely to be referential, it goes as far back as 2004 and the meme spawned late 2006, probably didn't hit "contagious" until '07.Powerheal 9000 Lens is likely to be, as it was launched March '08 and probably designed a few months before.Jeweled Fishing Pole had an exclusive icon last I checked (I picked it out ages ago) and some suggest it's a wink at "mahou shoujo".IMO Bent Spoons are a well-known, universal, and even generic staple of the psychic/telekinetic archetype, but they went full-reference with the crudes so might as well lump 'em.
...and i thing that there should be a spot for a celeb...Haris Pilton in reference of Paris Hilton...blonde starlet npc-a portable hole indeed-that sells the gigantique bag and some rings...
The Gilnean Raven have a spell named Nevermore - a clear Edgar Allan Poe refrense to his "The Raven".
Missing Aeris from FF7 in Dalaran :O
IMO the JC panther mounts being a Voltron reference is a very large stretch. They already did a very big Voltron reference with Mimiron in Ulduar, and none of those mounts have anything else referencing it in their names or text. I just think they thought the idea of combining mounts was a good idea and the "reference" is nothing more than a coincidence.
I don't know if anyone's noticed the HUGE boat outside Gadgetzan in Tanaris, but that could be seen as a reference to Noah's Ark.
I love how the title clearly says item references and most of the comments are bringing up achievements and other non-item references.
This post was from a user who has deleted their account.
Added a few more references after watching http://gamesdonequick.com/ the past few days--Katamari Damacy, Super Monkey Ball, and Donkey Kong references up. Also some designer Coach bag jokes :)Be sure to check out the comics, books, music, and poetry item references post as well! That's been updated in the past week too. Also a friendly reminder that this covers only item references--achievements, NPCs, scenery is outside the scope. I appreciate all the friendly suggestions though and will include them in further guides in this series :)
I feel like they have a ton of soul eater stuff missing here, the one sword from naxx with a mouth on it, the like 5 thousand things that are based off of black blood, and of course the feline familiar. im sure I could find more if I looked, which I might do when I get more time.
The Jom Gabbar is a reference to the Gom Jabbar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gom_jabbar) in Dune (also the fact that it drops off of http://www.wowhead.com/npc=15517...a giant sand worm).
There is Kaja'Cola in game. Also Kaja'Cola Zero-One, obviously they are references to coca cola and its another product coca cola zero. They can only be found in Kezan and Lost Isles so only goblin starting zone hence not so popular.
A starwars referance forgoten is Death Star. A refarnace to a not a moon but a space station. And who knows what Perculia's Peculiar Signet might be a refernace to?The Talisman of Evasion used to exist in warcraft 3, and now it's here in wow.Rogue tier 15 i a refarance to Naruto. As the show is about ninjas, and the main character has a beast called nine tales sealed inside him. The fact that it's a rogue set makes me belive that it's Naruto Blizz had in mind, rather than the original ancient demon fox with nine tales or the pokemon nine tales.Truncheon of Five Hells Might be a refarance to dantes inferno and the seven hells. The Sun Eater is a referance to the DC comics acording to the comments on this epic tank loot.
Guys,You have missed my favourite Doctor Who reference in WOW.It's in the raid your clearing the mob prior to fighting the Dark Animus.. all the Ritualists are named after classic Doctor Who monsters :)Kthulu
