I feel that the times that the server maintenance that occurs should vary according to the time zone of the server. With all of the money that Blizzard makes, I'm sure it is possible to hire people to do this at different hours. The time should run 3am - 11am server time, not PDT. I'm sure there are difficulties that lie in this that I am not aware of, but it would be nice to bring down times closer to server times. However, I would still rather have some down time and a game that works than a game that doesn't work.
We pay for 30 days of game time, and 8 hours of the 4.3333 weeks makes it close to 35 hours every month. That's a full day and a half.Right to complain, I think yes.
I guess I just don't get why they don't have different servers do maintenance on different days. Like, divide up the US servers into 3rds... have 1/3 do Tuesdays, 1/3 do Wednesdays, and 1/3 do Thursdays... or something along those lines. That way, people have more choice, and thus have less to complain about.
If someone can't live without WoW for a few hours they have issues. Anyone who is upset / frustrated by maintenance should perhaps look at it as a wake up call and I don't know... go for a walk or something, talk to some friends, do your housework, just about anything can fill the time until 11am in the morning.Anyone moaning about money, you know how much maintenance there is going to be, if you don't like it, don't pay again, pretty simple.
It's not the actual maintenance that bothers me, it's the fact that there is STILL instance lag every Tuesday. Blizzard has known about this for years, and they still haven't said anything or attempted to fix it beyond making more servers.
Maintenance starts 7-8pm for me. Thats a pain. I'd rather Blizz do a different timeslot for oceanic servers. But i can understand that they dont as staff would be doing it twice.
Believe the reason they have to do it all at once is that they need to take ALL servers offline including those that overlap realm servers (battlegroup, instance, and authentication servers) I don't really see any point in complaining about the normal scheduled weekly maintenance, a game of this scope DOES have to have maintenance and believe me, regular scheduled 'checkup' maintenance and occaisional fixing is vastly better than games that let them run til they break then cant ever patch them up properly once they do break (been there done that not fun)If my understanding is correct they do both physical maintenance and software/coding checks both within the same maintenance times, if they for example are checking the cooling systems on their server farms everything has to come down together and can't come back up til they are done, just like you don't work on your pipes with the water turned on you don't check a pressurized server farm cooling system without everything being powered down.Admittedly it IS an inconvenience for players in time zones where weekly maintenance takes a sizeable chunk out of their peak hours, and extended maintenance is usually a bit frustrating just because the way they tend to 'lead you on' with the update messages...however thats kind of a 'darned if they do darned if they don't' matter for blizzard on both counts.I'm fine with maintenance but I reserve the right to blow steam during extended maintenance if it makes me feel better! :P
Tuesdays can be frustrating at times since that used to be a day I would regularly call in sick on (eventually I learned better). What truely annoys me about maintenance days though is the fact that the web forums tend to go down. How is it that Blizzard has all this capacity for the game, but come patch day their websites tend to crash or get locked down?
probably already mentioned, but i'll throw in my 2 cents.3-11 (6-2 my time :P) maintenance is not what bothers me, it's the fact that every week without fail "unexpected difficulties" come up and the maintenance gets delayed another couple of hours. The least they could do is be honest. They say 8 hrs because it looks better than 12 hrs. But if 75% of the time it's going to take 12 hrs, they should just admit it.
