Slower? I'd say that depends. I choose threads of fate with an alt, gained 3 levels from doing one "help zone" quest. Seems pretty darn fast. However this was an alliance character on a horde realm, so 30% XP buff.I like this, that we are given a choice. :) Doing the same questline over...and over, can quickly become tedious and not fun.
oof, I messed up for choosing fate...
Well... damn... wish I knew this yesterday....
I started Threads of Fate with my druid and started in Ardenweald. Getting out of the Maw left me at close to 51, and finishing the Aiding Ardenweald bits got me to 53. So it's not QUITE as good as doing the whole kit and caboodle, but it's not horrible either.
I chose this to spam dungeons, I will get the % eventually :)
i think that its more pleasant, i can level up via world quest wich i was going to do anyways by level 60 (for rep and anima), or by farming mobs, herbs, ore.
Thanks for posting this.I'm almost done the main campaign on my main, and starting to think about the future for my alts. This is definitely good to know, as I'm one of those who can get bored by repeating the same story content repeatedly and it'll be nice to decide whether I want to level my alts quickly, or more leisurely as the Threads system seems to suggest.Especially since ultimately, I'll need to, at the very least, set up one character for each Covenant for maximum rewards acquisition. :)
Honestly, I didn't feel it was slower. Zone quests give about 1/3 a level - side quests give more xp than storyline quests and are just as fast. The one thing I felt was less worthwhile were the objectives but that's because they were so slow to complete. Having said that, don't be deterred if you made the ToF choice already.
I disagree with the statement that Threads of Fate is slower than doing campaign quests, I've been playing on my alt with my guildies and we average ~10 minute per dungeon, each dungeon rewards around 33% of a level, and we get 2 levels/hour. Doing campaign takes way more than ~5 hours.
I think I could choose this on one of the alts just to check out all the side-quests, I cannot bring myself to do them on main. It actually resembles levelling in vanilla, but grinding stuff is now rewarded with additional xp.
I was wondering. It seems like questing is much better, especially with WM on Alliance. Thank you for letting us know!
Threads of Fate is not slower than campaign as dungeon spamming is strictly faster than the campaign. Threads of Fate also bypasses the dungeon restriction Blizzard put in place for leveling, allowing you to get more dungeon pops instead of being restricted only to the dungeons of zones you have visited if you did the main campaign. These dungeons also give you Anima during Threads of Fate, while they don't during the story campaign. It's a clear choice, imo.
What does leveling through professions mean? How do you get XP? And how much?
Good article. I was wondering about this. (As somebody who likes to play solo as much as possible, with many alts, it seems that storyline campaign is the way to go).
Will be doing this on my farming alt, don't use that character for anything other than gathering professions and gear it through BoA tokens so this seems ideal to just level to max without really doing anything different.
How do you level up through professions?
I don't think it's faster, but it will save you a lot of annoying grinding through the different campaigns when you could just run a bunch of dungeons to gear up instead. It also makes it easier to bring alts into raids, so there's that.
