Personally I plan to pick based on theme but I get people choosing based on sims. Just keep in mind that if numbers is what you care about you may very well be screwed over by a numbers change in any patch. Choosing by theme, well that theme will never change like the numbers inevitably will with balance passes.
I think people just isnt getting that locking yourself to a specific covenant, and not picking one you like the looks and theme of is a bad idea. Why you ask? You can count on there being massive buffnerfs to their abilities. Blizzard is aware of the issues with Pelagos and already nerfed him once. If people still flock to him, then you can be sure he will be nerfed more for being a too good outlier.
If there is a clear Blizzard design intent for one to be the best choice for raids, or another for PVP, or another for mythic plus, etc., that's great and helpful information to report (and really, Blizzard could just put that in the UI so everyone could see it.)If there is not such an intent, or or even worse if there is a stated goal for there to be no such clear choice and a willingness to patch/nerf to ensure that is the case, then you are doing the community a disservice by a) pretending that there is one; b) that you can already tell what it is this early in the game; and c) that you are confident it won't change, quite possibly all 3 of which are wrong.Meanwhile, despite the actual reality not matching your desire to be able to publish this article in good faith, what you will successfully be able to do is get a lot of players denied from pug content on the basis of not having the made the "right choice."Thanks a lot for being such a positive member of the fan community.
Been saying it for two months. Why. In. The. F***. Is. Warlock. Kyrian. Just... why, blizz. Almost all of this seems backwards to what makes sense. Warlocks are going kyrian instead of necro or venthyr. Only one druid spec ever goes night fae. Rogues are going kyrian in raids. Vengeance is kyrian. Ret paladins go venthyr in raids. It just seems... wrong. Also, what is up with blue angels being the best in nearly half of this chart? It's not because they're good, it's because blizzard overnerfed other covenants that did make sense. Yes, triple soul drain decimating bolt was too overpowered. But cutting the charges to three, removing a passive, and cutting the percentage multiplier by over half, all in one patch... that isn't ever going to work. I understand the bar is pretty low from BfA, but Shadowlands has only gotten worse and worse since early this year. It's disappointing. It looked genuinely enjoyable, I was excited when guides and beta videos started coming out, it looked fun. There was options, you could have a low skill moderate damage, or high skill high damage builds. You could really get into a class fantasy. A lot of the class changes looked good. The covenant system at the time looked interesting. But as updates went on, it got dragged into the senseless, pointless mire that is BfA right now. Honestly, shadowlands doesn't look like it's going to fix any of of BfA's mistakes.
Why is kyrian so overrepresented?
You just have to wait for the video about a guild that pulls mythical raid without the covenant BIS and this absurd fight will end
Once again the article literally states that it's written for people who care more about performance than looks and still you have people clogging up the comment section with comments like "I don't care about performance i'm just gonna pick whatever i want :^)". Let me be blunt for a moment. If you don't care about covenant performance, this article was not written for you and you announcing that you're not gonna care about performance adds nothing of value to the discussion. Nobody is stopping you from picking whatever covenant you want and nobody gives a $%^& that you're gonna go night fae warrior because of your fairy obsession, for example. The next time wowhead posts an article about covenant performance, please refrain from announcing that you for one, doesn't care about performance. Nobody cares, nobody is gonna interfere with your preferred way of playing the game and at this point it just looks like you're trying to convince yourself that your way of playing the game is the correct way.
Necrolord for holy? wtf?, never ever picking most boring covenant and most unfiting :/ :/ :/for my holy priest
I care about performance and I still maintain that when it comes to actual raid contribution throughout the first tier, this article offers no more reliable information then if you picked one out of a hat. I'd say it is even more laughable if you extend that to the subsequent tiers, except it is already 100% laughable. Even for the just the current build, all the data you'd need is not there; and of course the current build won't be current for more than a week. The article is trying to work against the intent of the game developer, and the game developer holds all the cards. If this were an opinion column aimed purely at allowing people who enjoy the game to have a fun discussion, it'd be fine. The problem is they are publishing it as if there are correct answers that players should be expected to use, and there will be at least some idiots who will believe there really are correct answers, even months from now when they are way out of date, and who use the fake news to bully and exclude other players.
