This item is now available for sale from the EU Blizzard Store for 12 Euros or US Blizzard Store for $15. It is classified as Cosmetic Armor, which means it can be transmogged onto any cloth, leather, mail, or plate helm.

It's a spooky frosty helm that periodically glows ice-blue and covers your face with a skull--check out the special effects in our 3D modelviewer.

A copy of this item is sent to all of your characters. The helm is also BoA, so it can be mailed just like heirlooms. If you are short on bagspace but want the transmog look, you can mog and then mail which retains the look.

Recovered from the frozen battlefields of Northrend, the Crown of Eternal Winter enshrouds your character in an icy visage of death. Now, you can adopt the look of an elite member of the Scourge, but without the inconvenience of undying bondage in the service of the Lich King.

This cosmetic item uses your head slot, has no stats, and works across all races and classes. Use the NPC transmogrifier to replace the look for your existing helmet!

Once activated, this in-game item’s key applies to all present and future World of Warcraft characters on a single European Battle.net account.

Possible transmog sets include any of the frost resist looks (cloth, Leather, Mail, Plate).

I don't purchase many items from the Blizzard Store like I used to,

However, I think this helmet is a must.
For those of you who have not checked it out on the Model Viewer, do so.
When you equip the helmet for the first time, it's just an icy crown, then as time passes, your eyes glow (very similar to The Lich King's), then the crown freezes into a metal-looking crown, an icy skull appears, and then it freezes, with it's final effect.

Personally, Blizzard did a great job on this helmet, however, I hope it doesn't cost $20. I can for-see it being $5-10, which I would happily pay for.

This is one of the new blizzard store helms. There are currently 3 new helms introduced, along with there in game link scripts, because no doubt you'll want to see what they look like on your characters.

One annoying problem about this is that it fades on and off every couple of minutes so it doesn't have the skull on all the way :/

To any shadow priests out there thinking this will be a cool transmog: buy at your own risk. ...
I bought this headpiece for my spriest's transmog set, since I'm going for a shadowy grim reaper kind of look, and I thought the effects would transfer into shadowform really well. The frost/snow effects are treated as light effects, so they aren't changed by shadowform. The problem is that the actual faceplate of the skull effect is treated as a solid, so it goes transparent in shadowform.

Basically, you end up with a pointy crown and a ring of snow around your face, but nothing inside the ring of snow... Highly unfortunate.

Before buying know that the skull graphic is not permanent. It cycles through an animation. At first only the crown is displayed, then slowly frost covers the face and a skull is revealed.

The Mage Tier 3 works perfect with this helmet! :D Frostfire Regalia the Icy light from the shoulders matches the icy cold smoke "light" from the "mask" helmet. :p

The Crown's amazing skull effect is not random and will occur regularly.
8 seconds after equipping, your characters eyes will glow.
10 seconds, the skull will begin to appear
15 seconds, the skull will have fully appeared.
For the next 30 seconds, your character's face will appear as a pale, icy-blue skull with a wicked, malevolent grin!
45 seconds and the skull fades away.
and a mere 15 seconds later, the animation starts again.

Overall, the skull will be granted more face-time than your character's, allowing one to watch the awesome animation of the skull appearing over your face again.

Face up, the game was great once, remove the picture of how the game used to be. It will never return and is in the past, Activision only want you to believe it's the same to continue earning their disgusting money.

You'd think the effect would last longer. You'd think it would be perfect for your DK transmorg set.
For 12 euro you neither get an epic item (in looks) NOR do you get a sufficiently lasting effect.
It takes 10 seconds or so for the effect to come, and it fades again in another 5-10 seconds.

This is obviously Blizzard trying to twist a few leftover droplets of money out of it customers for reasons I don't know--maybe to work on future content? You'd think they'd have enough money for future content by now.

I have no problem with paying 12 euro, but I do have a problem with paying 12 euro for something that's overhyped and definitely not worth it for its looks.

Not even an achievement for paying 12 for this item, really?

Since my Deathknight's name is Frostyfehz I had to build a set of "frost" armor based around this helm. I didn't like how dark the blues are on the Magma Plated Battlegear, so I stayed away from that set as much as I could, and only used the shoulders from the set. Instead I used mostly the look-alike set of Reinforced Sapphirium Regalia and only replaced the helm and shoulders.

For weapons I am using 2x Hailstorm since I dual wield, and for tanking I currently use Shin'ka, Execution of Dominion, but I will be replacing that with Citadel Enforcer's Claymore as soon as I get it.

The cloak I currently have transmogged is the Immaculate Cloak, although I think this set looks just as good, if not better without a cloak. Soon I will have the Tabard of the Lightbringer and that will complete the transmog.

Okay so I copied my main onto PTR while she had the crown in her inventory, when I got on PTR the crown didn't copy along with it. Why not?

After viewing all the screenshots. You'd be silly to buy this for anything other than a DK with a matching set. Was gonna by for my shadow priest but doesn't seem to match Priest mogs.

I thought it was worth noting for anyone using an addon that animates your character portrait, X-Perl for example, that it still shows the full cycle of the animation.

The proc effect for the skull is currently bugged in EU (not sure about US). The animation won't trigger. This is happening since patch 7.1. It seems the item model is now using the template from China Reagion (CN).

In China showing bones / skeletons / skulls is offensive, so the animation was removed for them (Undead for example don't show bones there as well)

This is not an intended change and will be fixed for EU soon.

This has disappeared from my appearances as of the Shadowlands Pre-Patch.

Contacting support about it now- praying it's not intentional.

This helm keep disappearing from me when I have multiple wow clients open and have to remog it almost daily, might as well not use it until they fix it to save some gold lol

The item was not removed and blizzard know about the issue. You can look up the artikle ingame. Called "MISSING TRANSMOG HELM FROM SHOP" ID:17744
It's one of the most annoying things. And occurs almost on a daylie basis. 67 Gold every god damn time.

Successfully claimed in Prime Gaming, and the Crown of Eternal Winter isn’t showing in my appearances Tab. Not even if I use the Transmog mount. Got the other 2 helms without any issues, but this one is not showing regardless of reloads, totally exiting the game, loading different characters…sigh
