I believe the chest has a 100% chance to drop a green item of some sort, atleast it have dropped one each time I've opened it, which is about 4 times.

Chest of goodies, you'll come across it when doing Kolkar Leaders. Dropped the key when doing Centaur Bracers

I'd just like to point out that this chest is one of the better methods of "farming" some of the world-drop trade recipes/patterns/formulas available in this level range, as the chest nearly always drops an uncommon quality item, and the keys are quite easy to get. This is a great way to get Savory Deviate Delight and Phoenix Gloves/Pants recipes, in particular.

This item has an extremely low drop rate.
If you really have nothing else to do You may have a try to get the key but be prepared to kill over 200 mobs before the drop if you're unlucky ( as I was)

Confirm that as of 4.2 this key ends up in your regular inventory, with the removal of the keyring.

You just got this in your bag from the key master and you didn't get 2 gold 50 silver. Does that mean its useful somehow? Nope! why Blizzard decided not to give us the dough i don't know, destroy it :)

The person who suggests that this item should be destroyed is incorrect. Notice that it is a white item, which means it has some use in the game. Its stated use is that it "Opens the Kolkar booty chest."

My Tauren Hunter has been carrying two of these around for awhile and I decided to figure out how to use them. If the key opens the Koolkar booty chest, the first step would be to find one. So I looked it up on Wowhead and found that the item does not exist in the game.

Further research indicated that the key can be used to open Kolkar's Booty at 50, 78, Northern Barrens, which is on the southwest side of the Stagnant Oasis where a Kolkar named Wyneth is located on a raised platform. She is standing right next to the item, which is a chest. You will have to kill her to get it. She is a normal lvl 15. You do not need to be on a specific quest to open this item, as long as you have the key.

After you kill Wyneth, her mate, Verog the Dervish (a normal lvl 16) appears. You will have to kill him too. As is typical after Cata, the respawn rate is quick, she respawned while I was typing this and I had to do it all again before I could loot the chest, which got me a Barbed Club of Healing (item lvl 19) and a Blazing Wand (item lvl 17). Both the keys looted these items at once-I did not have to loot the chest twice to use the two keys.

This dropped for me from the mobs that spawn during King of Centaur Mountain.

If your lvl 85 this key has no benifical use for you except to open the chest and sell off it's contents if you really feel like you could use the silver...

Ever since WoW's early days, this chest has confused me. Whenever I leveled a character in the Barrens, this key never dropped, though I saw the chest. I've never gone out right and farmed for keys, considering I didn't see the point of farming something that has something I could probably put on the AH for a few gold, but whenever I leveled a character through this area, I always kept a look out and killed a few extras for the key.

Never dropped over the years so I assumed this was incredibly rare, but today, I was leveling a newer character and this finally dropped, just out of casual questing.

I wasn't sure exactly how rare this was, though I was somewhat excited to get something I've been looking out for. I herpdederped my way to the chest, killed a questmob I needed, and opened it!

Being a unique chest with a fairly difficult key droprate, I thought that I'd either get a rare, something worth while, or a unique item! Sadly, though, that wasn't the case for me. A level 14 mace of Stamina dropped, as well as linen cloth and a grey.

I was disappointed, but not too much. I mean, it is a chest that's aimed towards questers (Low levels). Not like I was expecting a Shadowfang or something, obviously. It seems that this chest drops random items/gear aimed for those around level 15.

On the bright side, not too far away from the chest, next to the ravine, is a Kolkar camp containing the rare spawn, Stonearm! If you were gipped out of gear from this chest, it's worth going to this camp to check it out. It's well out of the way from the questing area, though not too far (The camp itself is in view distance from the quest area). He has the same loot table, but awards experience as he is a rare! Be warned though, he is a tough fight without heirlooms because he has 1800 HP and two mobs near him. He hits fairly hard.

Overall, if you have the key, the chest is worth it. If you don't have the key, the grind isn't worth it. If you're at the right time, you can get a rare spawn AND the chest, to gear your character, or sell for some gold!

(Note: This chest is a good way to get some BoE gear for level 10 or 14 twinks. The rare spawn also awards BiS agility cloak for non-BoA 10 twinks.)

It's so weird. Never in the 5 years I've been playing have I come across the Kolkar Booty Key, until today! I killed a Kolkar Stormer and Wrangler in a tent that I've never visited before at 37;40, and I received TWO keys at the same time (but could only pick up one). I wonder if they increased the drop chance lately?

I opened the chest at Barak Kodobane's tent and was given Haunches Of Meatx3, Patched Leather Gloves (gray), and Soldier's Armor of the Bear (green).

Just picked up one of these keys today. Apparently, Blizzard has changed it to a limited time item, as the tooltip said Duration: 2 days.

Also, the current location of Wyneth and her platform is
/way 51, 78

Her mate still spawns right after she dies, so be ready for him.

Either I was just unlucky or it's another Blizzard change, but I got one green item, mail gloves.

The key is consumed when you open the chest.
