I found a limited supply on Endora Moorehead <Magical Goods>, in the "Sisters Sorcerous" shop outside the Silver Enclave in Dalaran.

The Int book was 451g25s, the Brilliance book was 475.

Vender can be found near the reagent render. Just search for reagent render at the guards in Dalaran.

Basically, instead of the usual blue/white eye that you get with AB/AI, you get a black background with the Dalaran Eye symbol on it.

That's it. Nifty, though. Plenty of RPers I know want it, for the sake of being Kirin Tor-affilated.

What has added greatly to the confusion is a post by one of the Blizzard moderators several weeks before the expansion. The post made a specific comment about the Tome of Dalaran Intelligence and Brilliance calling them the top level for the arcane brilliance and Intellect spells. I think most including myself read that as the books were required to reach top level. Searching back I found the post again and noticed it had been edited and the wording changed making it much clearer what the books were. It's unfortunate however that that poorly worded post by a Blizzard moderator is going to result in people forking out a lot of gold for something that they don't need.

I want to try to clarify all of the confusion.

This is not needed in order to have the best level of Arcane Brilliance, which you learn at a mage trainer like normal. The effects of learning this tome are purely for looks, and looks alone.

This is the same for Arcane Intellect, Tome of Dalaran Intellect is not needed in order to have the best level of this spell.

It costs 425g and i posted a screenshot of what it looks like when casted.

Imo- if you have 425g to waste go ahead and buy it, but other than looks its completely useless.

I feel the other posts lack a bit, so here's some basic info:

1. The icon is different, with the following two icons, depending on whether you're casting the solo buff, or the group buff. http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=61024 http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=61316 (edit: no solo version exists anymore!)

2. Functionally, stat wise, etc, this spell is *exactly* the same as the mage trainer standard int spells. No difference. This is a NEW spell. It does NOT replace your old spells.

3. The casting graphic is different, instead of the classic blue floating eye animation, it's a sort of Arcane Blast type animation, followed with a smaller purple Dalaran flavoured eye lingering over the targets head. I can't spot any visual difference in the graphics between the single-target, and the group buff.

4. You only get top ranks of this spell, so you cannot cast the Dalaran flavour of int, on any low level target.

This seems to be *almost* up there with the Haris Pilton items. Except you do get the chance to visibily see it...who sits there paying attention to the mage as they cast arcane intellect? I know its a money sink, but from what it does I'd rather spend my money on the toy train set. At least that's something someone will notice :-\

At this point, I don't think it's that far fetched to believe that Blizzard decided to use spells like these just for statistical reference.

"How many 80 players have 500 Gold to spare, and are such end-game enthusiasts that they feel the need to spend such an amount just so that they can have another spell in their arsenal despite the complete lack of added functionality?... And how can we change the game accordingly?"

My estimate would be about 15-25%

Wow what a waste of money. Just make a macro with that icon and your set. Only thing that looks different is your buff and a different animation for 1 second of your life.

I just want to point out that yes even though it is a wast of 500g to buy a "more flashy" version of previous spells are the polymorph spells all that different. paying lots of gold just for the sake of making your spells look cool...

Dalaran Intellect: Mages will now be properly blocked from casting this spell when the target has a more powerful version of the buff.

I guess this means Arcane Intellect and Dalaran Intellect wont be overwriting eachother anymore, amirite?

I purchased this today for my primary alt Mage. He is also my AH toon, so I figged why not "treat" him for all his hard work in the AH all these years. And the price now is 420g, so it sounds like it was reduced from 500g?

Anyways, I noticed when I cast the Blizzard spell now the arcane energy around my toon's hands that were originally blue is now a pink/purple color. Since nobody mentioned this above, I thought I should put in my two cents. I have yet to cross-reference it on others spells as well, but at least it's another little added bonus.

And Lassie, it went right over my head, but I am RIGHT there with you age-wise !

On a lower post it said that the things costed 450-500g. If you have exalted with the Kirin Tor the Tome of Arane Intelect only costs 380g and the Tome of arcane brilliance costs 400g. thought that might clear some stuff up for everyone. and just for everyone else that wants know to. it doesnt replace any spells and its not a better version of the spells. its a totaly seperate spell that does the EXACT SAME THING as the normal spells you buy from a trainer. it just looks kick-@$$

This spell has a longer range than Arcane Brilliance but is statistically identical. So yes, it is "better" than Arcane Brilliance but not at all necessary.
