The Ace can drop of any of the last bosses in a 68+ instance, heroic or normal.

For Combat Rogues (Dagger or Fist) with high crit chances this might not be the best trinket; however, a trinket like this could be very useful for a Hemo Rogue (lower crit chance) especially if stacked with the Crusader Card (adds AP each melee hit) and a Sinister Calling/Deadliness build.

As already pointed out, this trinket is very powerful if you have a low crit chance while using crittable spells mainly, and ideally also benefit from critical strikes through talents.

Those are typically:

- Undergeared characters of a lot of classes.
- Healers that are healing specced and wanna use this as part of a secondary damage set.

A holy priest with searing light and surge of light would be a perfect example of what this trinket can do for you in a offspec role.

I can also see this trinket useful for marksmanship hunters, who are usually not that high on crit chance from items, while having mortal shots which gives a good crit damage bonus.

There are most definately other classes/specs that work too, feel free to add them.

Just tested it. As long as you don't hit critical, it will stack. So in theory you could have a crit rate of 100%, which is about a stack of a few hundred. (You'll hit with a crit before that happens.)

Have any elemental shamans used this card? Usually we have a very high crit rate... I know mine is about 26% with hodge podge gear. But even so this would guarantee steady and reliable critting rather than "dry periods"... but is it better than, say, the nexus horn, the lightning capacitator, or the icon of the silver crescent?
Not that I'm even sure which two out of those three is the best... >_<

Can you have both melee crit and spell crit buff on at the same time? say, a dw shaman and he shocks when cd is up, can he get full use of this trinket? If so, elemental devastation talent will be a very good choice working with this trinket.

alot of people are thinking of this trinket as a simple +Crit trinket, which is fine, but i feel that you are missing the true power of this trinket. This power is that it gives you a GURANTEED crit every "X" seconds.

This guranteed crit every "X" seconds works well with quite a few abilities, the main one (that i can think of) being the paladin Retri talent "Vengence" and the new way in which it works. This basically alows a paladin to keep the 15% damage buff up constantly with this guarnateed crit (provided the "X" time period is short enough). There are other items and abilities that could work well with this like the lightening capacitor previously mentioned, i cant think of them all but there are quite a few :)

The "X" time period of course works off of a number of factors
Avarage time between hits
Standard Crit Chance
and im sure some clever person can pick up where i leave off by actually working this out with some actual numbers, just i dont have the time :)

For Paladins:

It seems only Seal of Command (and probably Blood) counts as a direct damage. Also: Crusader Strike, Judgements, Holy Wrath, Exorcism, the FIRST TICK of Consecration, and Hammer of Wrath.

Eye for an Eye and Ret aura do NOT count as direct damage.

So, the above chart, while viable for auto-attacking, does not hold true as a flat crit % equivalent when thinking about how a Paladin actually does damage. In reality, the card is worth much more crit than is listed on that chart.

For mages, I think this is pretty worthless unless you have a really really low crit rating. I rarely ever go more than 4 spells without a crit, which is the only time this trinket would be better than any of the other crit trinkets out there. Quag's eye, Xi'ri's gift, and the Nexus horn are all still better dps trinkets.

These proc or can be used much more often then I go on insane dry spells without a crit.

The most powerful aspect of this trinket as I see it is that the chance of long streaks of no crits will be drastically reduced. The maths indicate that it doesn't give you that much extra crit, but the power of this trinket (as I see it) is that it will give you crits when you really really want them. After a non crit streak your crit chance will be increased singnificantly which reduces the chance of the non crit streak to continue. This is very good for fury warriors, where flurry uptime is very important for your sustained dps and for keeping rampage up.

There is no "guaranteed crit" if your crit rate isn't 100%.

In my opinion, it's not worth a whole lot. With my crit rate at 28%, it would give me an effective 22-25ish crit raiting bonus, and there are already trinkets with better crit than that, with +dmg procs. At 20% it looks to be around 24-35 crit rating bonus or so, which isn't bad, but I'd still rather have the 32 crit rating, +150 dmg proc trinket. If your crit's less than 20%, you probably have other gear issues you should be worried about before getting this thing.

I am currently collecting this and the Blessings deck. I'm playing a holy paladin, and for grinding purposes i use a full mele gear without spelldamage (mostly doomplate) with Seal of Blood which is working quite well (more efficient and faster than shocking).

As this trinket seems to be great for people with a low crit rate like myself (arround 16%) I started collecting it. But now i heard that it is not proccing of auto atacks or seals, so the only way for me to stck this would be wasting mana on judgements and holy shock?

Would be great if any paladin could try this with seal of blood and seal of righteousness and report back here. If this does indeed proc of seal of blood you could use this trinket while meleing a boss in healing gear to stack up crit rating and then heal people, because crit heals won't consume the buff.

You are all thinking about the PVE, you don't need this trinket for it in a raid, you are already buffed a lot, i would choose better another one. Also in PVE farming is useless, there are plenty of nice trinkets more easily obtainable. I don't see this trinket as "Crit rating lack solution"
This is indeed a nearly High-End PVP trinket.
What I mean? Simply: with the release of TBC and with it the new Resilience rating stat is becoming really difficult to land crits, for example today i met a mage that i never landed a direct attack crit on him even if i have 30% crit, in that case i wished to have this trinket.
Obviously wasted against blue enemies, i'd see it more usefull on hardcore arena players.

Does this card proc off of Mind Flays (or other channeled spells)? And if so do they consume it? Cause this could be a great way for a shadow priest to charge up a higher chance to crit on a Mind Blast or SW:D and return a nice pile of mana to his party while spamming a spell that otherwise has no benefit from +spellcrit.

My gut says Crusade would still be better, but this could be a lower-cost alternative.

Well, it does "smooth out" your crits, meaning you're less likely to go on a "bad" streak. That could be important in shorter fights (e.g., trash pulls).

Another thing is that Hourglass and Tsunami both have internal cooldowns, so it's ideal to have them proc as soon as the cooldowns are over...this could help them by making sure you don't go too long without a crit.

I generally prefer "static" boosts rather than procs, but it seems like the card could be useful, anyway.

I just made a c++ app that calculates the crit rating you get passively, but I do not guarantee 100% correct values, they could be some % off. Just type in your crit % and the number of simulations you want to do, or just keep it as it is.

After testing this out naked on a high resilience player in a duel. It turns out the deck has a buff cap of 20 buffs which gives 15.60% crit.

Each Buff = .78% crit
Buff Cap = 20 buffs

Thought this would be useful to all the theorycrafters out there and for those of you considering this deck

This smoothes out the non-crit streaks for direct damage spells.

This is great for PVP because of the opponents resilience gear.

This is not a set% or an average%, it's effect varies based on your base crit and your opponents crit.

AOE, DOT's, and Channeled Spells other than arcane missles are not direct damage. This is why they don't crit.

Could this be a good trinket for paladin healers?

Basically a paladin could keep meleeing a boss (since a holy paladin has low melee crit rate) and wait until spell crit stacks.

Since healing isn't a direct damage effect, the paladin can make use of the spell crit for healing.

Just to get this straight - any non critting direct damage you do, either by spell/ability or by white damage will increase both your crit rating AND your spell crit rating in increments of 17 up to a cap of 340 (20 stacks).

This basically means that as a healer you CAN white damage (and hope you dont crit) to stack up on spell crit rating. This would be an utterly silly tactic though for several reasons. 8k greater heals dont count for much when the tank is dead.

There are perhaps a few bosses where this would be possible, but overall I am disappointed with the new Darkmoon Cards' viability for healers. Blue Dragon still pretty good for ToL droods and the occational spirit priest - other than that, nothing to pick up.

I'm a rogue and I just got this trinket today. My crit rating prior to getting this trinket was already around 34% as most of my gems are agil & +crit. Adding this trinket greatly increased the amount that I crit. However one of the reason I decided to get this card is because I for whatever reason like having a high crit percentage but that comes at a slight cost of atk pwr due to the fact that I could have +atk pwr gems in place of my +crit gems. After getting this trinket I changed into a second set of gear (i have 2 complete sets of Assassination) the second set of gear is mainly all atk pwr and hit rating gems. I ended up lowering my crit chance down to about 25% just from the armor change. But because of this trinket I was able to significantly raise my atk pwr without sacrificing my chance to crit. This is pretty nice. I have all the bonuses of frequent crits and the increased atk pwr and hit rating to help deliver a even bigger punch. In my opinion this is a awesome trinket for rogues looking for more atk pwr that don't want to lose crit, and I think it would team very nicely with trinket you get from the blessings deck. Why not just get the blessings to begin with and leave your current crit chance where it was (assuming it was high to begin with)? Because you can have both!!

Interesting side-note for shamans - flametongue (and potentially also frostbrand) procs wont add a buff when it procs, but it also wont remove them when it crits. It DOES however seemingly get its crit from spellcrit. As an elemental shaman I'm rolling with about 20% spell crit and 7% melee crit.

nice for raiding as a warlock if you have imp SB, since this helps give you more even spaced crits to keep shadow vuln up without a lot of redundancy. plus most warlocks don't have particularly high crit chance if they aren't dest.

I was wondering about this card and how it would affect an enhancement shaman. With the potential talent changes that I've heard through the web, this card is very interesting.

Enhancement shaman spell crit is usually pretty low, so you could earthshock to increase your melee crit. I also wonder how Windfury is taken into account.... does a hit + wf proc that don't crit count as 3 non crits for this trinket?

Taken into consideration with Elemental Devastation (offensive spell crits increase chance to get a melee crit by 3% for 10 seconds) and the future Shamanistic Focus (the mana cost of our shocks by 60% and has a chance to proc when we get a melee crit) and Mental quickness (+spell damage and healing = to 30% of attack power).

Could be pretty sweet.

I saw some people are saying this is worth less then a trinket that gives a solid 1% well i am going to state my case for it.
Ok being a hunter, who is BM spec'd i can very easily get off 10 shots in ten seconds, simply by spamming Steady + Auto and nothing else. So i can effectively gain an extra 6-7% to crit in that time if no crit comes before then, last time i checed thats a huge percentage! Now where this card really shines at for hunters is anyone who is survival or MM/Surv hybrid spec'd since it helps keep that expose weakness on the target. Not saying there arnt many other viable options in the trinket slots for a hunter, but this hard does have its uses.

Let's have some theorycrafters elaborate on the use for a frost specced mage in PvE.

General consensus is, frost spec needs to be at spell hit cap for bosses, meaning 165 spell hit rating with elemental precision. This means, one has to spend a hole bunch of item budget on spell hit.

Consider the current gear situation on the mage, which is basically heroic with occasional visits to Karazhan. In this situation, I'm likely to get spellhit and spelldamage rather than spell crit.

Usually, I have shatter, which _is_ my spell crit rating. Also, on trash I gear up differently, maximising crit (to a lesser extend) and damage (to a greater extend) at the cost of hitrating, which I don't need on sub boss level mobs.

On boss fights, Shatter is useless due to immunity and I need my spellhit. Here comes the great moment for this trinket. My buffed crit rate in boss mob gear is slightly below 20% (it's only a twink, so don't flame me too much about this), resulting in a noticeably lower dps output.

Might it be a good idea to put this trinket into my boss gear (exchanging it perhaps for Quagmirran's Eye, which I use in this setup next to the scryer bloodgem), thus giving me some boost to my damage?

An interesting note about this trinket. With 17 crit rating for every stack you only have to hit two succesive normal attacks and this trinket is up there with the Skyguard Silver Cross (disregarding the secondary effect of that trinket), hit three normal strikes and it gives more crit rating than any single trinket in the game.

Yes, you would need an abnormaly low crit % in order to maximize this trinket but the thing is, it doesn't have to stack umptheen times to be useful.
To me this trinket seems worth the effort for any class that require a steady rate of critical hits to proc abilities, even if the player already has a high base crit.

Seems like this would be very nice for enchancement shaman.

The value of this scales down as your CRIT goes up, not as your gear goes up....this would allow you to get high end +hit gear and pure attack power gear instead of worrying so much about agility and +crit.

This trinket underperforms in PVE once you are over a 25% crit rate or so, there are many trinkets that add a lot more crit rating. For PVP, it is the best trinket in the game for any class that benefits from crit, due to the large amount of resilience that most players are carrying around.

I'm a mutilate rogue and i plan on using this item: yes i know i would be critting often on poorly geared people anyway and ofcourse this is not when the trinket comes to mind. But now your up against 400 resilience people and blimey... your not critting that often anymore... still you get crits of but not that often... making the trinket work allready. then there are those talents that make people crit immune... and THIS is where i really take it for... stacking up to about 15 stacks on a target while he is sort off crit immune and straight when the buff wears off hes getting a new mutilate into his back...

this trinket is sweetness working like retaliation.

32% base crit + about 7% from mongoose procs 10% more or less from this trinket and 15% crit bonus to mutilate next patch were looking at 64% chance to crit against a healer when the debuff wears off.. no resilience is going to help them now

Hmm... checking the buff it does appear that you can stack your spell crit by meleeing a bit, as it's a single buff boosting both melee and crit at the same time.

It's a minor, silly thing, it bit seems that, say, a Holy Priest who's solo grinding using Smite and this trinket can likely get a bigger crit rating bonus from the card by -meleeing- during the time they're casting instants.

eg, smite a mob a couple of times, autoattack them whilst casting renew and shield... probably get a couple of dagger stabs in there which would add 34 crit rating to the next spells. Obviously not what the card was intended for, but for a caster soloing it seems you can likely abuse the mechanic quite a bit, especially as with no melee stats your melee swings are incredibly unlikely to crit anyway even with the wrath boost.

I'm a shadow priest and I'm wondering about this trinket. I use mindflay, which can't crit, a lot during raids. Would this trinket up my crit chance for each tick of mind flay or just for the initial cast? Same for SW:P and Vampiric Touch?

Just wondering because if this is the case then I'd be building up quite the crit chance for when mind blast and SW:D come off CD.

This card will only proc off Spells and attacks that can crit. If the spell / attack can't crit you wont get anything from the trinket. So DOTs are unaffected, Consecreate is unaffected ( AOE DOT) It would only seem that Lightning shield is the only spell that cant crit that adds trinket stacks.

On a different note: All hunters please do not get this trinket. As a class we only have one spell that benefits from a crit and that's kill command. While that is fairly nice for BM hunters with their 20% bonus crit there's no need for it. Many hunters are sitting on a large amount of crit, this trinket will only get up to (on average) 3 - 5 stacks. I feel ashamed that I used this trinket rather than sold it, there are many other classes that could get much more benefit out of this.

I'm a Huntard specced 41/20/0, the basic BM Raiding spec. As a BM Huntard you don't go for crit so much as you do AP and other things, because you're looking for steady DPS, not just a chance to really hit it big, but with talents like Mortal Shots and Serpent's Swiftness you can actually find really really big usefulness in this trinket. As I'm sure most Hunters know, your DPS is based off the rotation of Steady Shots and Auto Shots. If you're BM Serpent's Swiftness almost perfectly times the rotation for you with a 2.9-3.1 attack speed ranged weapon. Since as a BM Hunter you hit the target about twice every 1.6-1.7 seconds this trinket shoots your crit through the roof, and with Mortal Shots you have 30% extra crit damage... Just imagine this, which for me has happened before. Heroism, Rapid Fire, Abacus of Violent Odds, and Improved Aspect of the Hawk. All at once... I fire about 0.6 second Steady Shot Auto Shot rotations for a few seconds.... with the crit from this trinket... you're probably critting the target at least once every 2 seconds, and when I was testing this on Prince Malchezaar I was getting off crits with every other shot, and 1/2 crits increases your overall DPS times 2.3 (With the talent) and since it's every other shot, that means you're dealing 115% normal damage if my math is right in every 2 shots. Everyone's comments are talking about how useful this is for Warriors or Shamans or Retadins... doesn't anyone consider how useful this is for a Hunter? Seriously, this is a HUGE buff for BM Hunters.

As an elemental shaman I've found out that Lightning Overload won't stack this spell if hit, but it won't either remove it if Lightning Overload crits, but the crit% for Lightning overload stacks with the amount of crit rating gained by Aura of Wrath, And Healing spells will not stack the Aura, though they are not a "Direct Damage Attack".

The wording on the card is "Each time one of your direct damage attacks does not critically strike..." which led me to believe that I would stack the buff for direct attacks that miss, or are dodged, or parried, and possibly even when my target is immune. This would make the trinket incredible in certain situations. However, none of these stack the buff.

In order for the buff to be added, you must hit with your attack, and it must do damage.

Obviously this trinket will still help any character who needs crit, but because of this limitation I don't see it being terribly useful for anybody except Enhancement Shamans and maybe Fury Warriors.

For those who are wondering about this deck's usefulness, it's not really for PvE at all. This is essentially a PvP trinket for classes such as Ret pallies, Shammies and Warriors. Essentially, anything that depends on critting to get the job done in PvP.

I got this about a month or so ago and it rocks so much in PvP. PvE, meh. In PvE you should have enough passive crit, so you shouldn't need this trinket. In PvP it rocks cause of the fact that there is so much resillience out there. You're pretty much guaranteed to crit hard and fast. I noticed a dramatic increase in my wins after I got this too. Yes, I'm sitting at around 30% crit, but that matters little with all the resil. This essentially negates the anti-crit that resil offers. :)

PvP trinket first IMO. PvE trinket only if you have horrid crit even after raid buffs.

So I belive the maths on this item will be preeeeeetty much the same as a lvl 80 player percentage to percentage wise?

This + pvp trinket would be the obvious choice for Arena then, (rogue) and rather use the points you might have used in Malice or Close Quarter Combat on straight pvp talents instead.
Imagine how much + crit rating this will eventually give you against a high resi enemy if you do not stack crit from talents. Of course you will crit less often, because it stacks.. but I still see its 80 potential.

This item provides both Spellcrit and Melee crit in a single stacked buff.

However, with crit being normalized, does that mean each stack of this card awards 34 crit rating, doubling its effectiveness and therefore making it viable for 80?

Can anyone confirm/disprove?

This item gives 17 critical strike rating AND 17 SPELL critical strike rating.
Since critical strike rating gives spell crit, and spell critical strike rating does, too, this perhaps gives 34 "spell" critical strike rating.

No, I'm fairly sure it only gives 17, since spell crit and melee crit are the same thing. It's not that amazing in this case.
