Rank 1 can be obtained by talking to either Rolm at 49, 61 in Nazjatar or Insturctor Ulooaka at 38, 53 in Nazjatar. You do need to have Battle Herbalism skill level 140+

Rank 2 can be obtained from Carnivorous Lasher - the rare, not the quest mob. The rare comes from Germinating Seed which has a small drop chance from mobs in Nazjatar and from gathering Zin'anthid. The first seed you'll get is a quest item which will phase you, but for the subsequent seeds, you will have to find some fertile soil in the Coral Reef area (best bet is to hang out at 54, 41 and announce when it spawns) to plant it. The second and beyond Lashers will not phase you, and you will have to collect 10 of the bugs to feed before it becomes attackable.

Rank 3 can be obtained from a Zin'anthid Tentacle, which has a small drop chance from gathering Zin'anthid nodes after having Rank 2. This is a simple turn-in quest where you return to either Rolm at 49, 61 in Nazjatar or Insturctor Ulooaka at 38, 53 in Nazjatar to turn in.

If your shards soil isn't respawning, dont try to be a smart ass and join a random group to find one. My groupleader left midfight and got me kicked from the encounter...

Not to start an urban legend, but I received the recipe when I fed the Carnivorous Lasher a special seeming Seafly called "Germinating Seafly". It was purple with a trail of green dust behind it as compared to the "Bloated Seafly" which are blue and more numerous.

To update, and also to crosscheck with others, I was able to loot this recipe today on the first try.

Firstly, learn the lvl1 recipe from Instructor Ulooaka or Rolm.

Then, go around harvesting Zin'anthid until a Germinating Seed drops. Now go to /way 54.81,41.98 where you will find a patch where to put the Germinating Seed. It can be slow, and tedious, but I was able to get it around my tenth trip in Nazjatar.

I fed it the following:

3 Germinating Seafly
2 Radiant Seafly
2 Golden Seafly
3 Bloated Seafly

You have to feed one Seafly each time, and if you wait too much to do that, your captured Seafly will disappear.

Once all grown up it will be around 4800K HP, but I was able to solo it as a fire mage without issues. Just don't stand in the green spit area.

Hope it can help others looking for this recipe.

I have rank 1 Zin'anthid gathering, have completed this quest (on 2 different characters), and still can't get rank 2. What gives?
