I noticed that I had 800 Sentry Fish in my bag, click on them and you get 2-3 Spare Parts per fish!
Metal Detector dosen't affect when clicking the fish.

Things you may want to know about Sentry Fish:

Apart from breaking down into 2-3 Spare Parts on use, this has no other function. It is not used as a reagent in any crafting or vendor recipes.
Before you just pop them all into Spare Parts, note that one Sentry Fish sells for 6.25 Silver, where Spare Parts you get from it sells for up to 3 Copper (you get 3 at most).
They don't trigger Global Cooldown like many other on-use items, so you can spam-click these to open them all.
It is considered a reagent and can be stored in the reagent bank and correlating bag options.
Both the Sentry Fish and the Spare Parts are soulbound, so if you aren't going to use them, selling to vendors is the best option to gain still. Sell the Sentry Fish, don't open them to sell the Spare Parts from it. See point 2.
If you want the most efficient way to store these, that would be breaking them down into Spare Parts, and then creating S.P.A.R.E. Crates from them. Sentry Fish stacks to 200, while Spare Parts stack up to 250, which does mean Sentry Fish stack better when you ignore the S.P.A.R.E. Crates, because a stack of Sentry Fish amounts to 400-600 Spare Parts, but this is still only 2-3 S.P.A.R.E. Crates.

How to get Sentry Fish:

These are fished from either open waters around Mechagon (not 100% catch rate), or directly from Sentry Fish Schools (100% catch rate with appropriate fishing skill level).
Metal Detector does not impact how many Spare Parts you get per Sentry Fish.

West of Ohn'ahran Plains theres are two islands, the bigger is at top and the other at the bottom. At the small one I have found this spot. 18.65 , 61.61. While fishing I only catch one of these 5 fishes.

For some weird reason, you can also find this fish in Amirdrassil south-western islands. Near the dead Brutosaur.
