I was looking for Truffles in the zone for 30 minutes and was able to find ~20 Magic truffles (blue) 1 big Valley truffle and 4-6 speed buff truffles (small brownish/yellowish round cap) and a few Violet Truffles which are difficult to spot as they're small, spiky cap black and a bit violet in color.

All of them have been found sticking to a big central area of the zone under trees near the trunks.

Haven't been able to find this one.
Maybe it doesn't grow under trees?
Is in the cave with the rare tho?

I spoke to a GM about this just to confirm it is in the game and got this response pay extra special attention to the link he posts under the "flags" it says "Can only be used during nighttime" not sure if this is a hint or just nothing but worth a try atleast

I am Game Master (removed) and I shall do all I can to speed up the resolution of your issue regarding the achievement "Clever Use of Mechanical Explosives"

I've seen a couple of other tickets about this, so I understand your concerns.

I'm not aware of any problems with this achievement at the moment, and when I checked our internal database I can see the sporonite bomb listed, but I'm not able to discuss where it is from, and am not sure if there are issues with it at this time.

I did see on Wowhead some interesting information regarding the "spell" so you may want to read carefully the page below:

The only thing I can say is if you feel there is a problem with it, please use the "submit bug report" tool in the ingame help menu. This way the developers and QA teams will see the report and investigate further. (The more reports it receives the more visibility it will gain)

anyone tried using the nose in Drustvar seeing as its a bomb and they have curses there along with a lot of trees and pigs?

The original Saronite Bomb, which this is a reference too, was contained in the engineering craft Box of Bombs. Perhaps Blizz has hidden this in some new crafted or looted container? It's one more thing that we could maybe keep an eye out for.

I've not solved it
Just going to add what I did for tests

I tried crafting and opening a Box of Bombs with a Pig Nose on. only got Saronite Bomb no Sporonite Bomb were in it.
I tried going up to the Lich King's throne both outside and inside ICC with the Pig Nose on, nothing there
I tried using Saronite Bombs during Lichen King's encounter on him and other abilities and ads, I even sat in the fight for 5 minutes to see if he did anything else and nothing.

If someone comes up with another engineering thing to try, leave it as a comment here

Thought I'd add a new comment for visibility. Thanks to hub2000 for bringing his find and info to our attention.

After tonight's hotfixes I found the Sporonite Bomb at 23.3, 75.7 in Stormsong Valley. It can be found just like the other truffles in the zone by first using a Pig Nose and then searching under trees for the clickable Truffles

After you have obtained the Bomb, simply run to The Lichen King rare at 51.8, 79.2, engage him in combat and use the Bomb on him to obtain the achievement Clever Use of Mechanical Explosives.

Found a sporonite bomb truffle at 71.20, 56.38 while looking for a valley truffle. I didn't see any other confirmed locations of it so this is at least one spot to try for those who are looking for it. I've submitted a screenshot which hopefully gets approved.

For those without coordinates (I was one of those until I downloaded TomTom to help with the valley truffle search - don't have one of those yet), this is on Mariner's Strand east side by Layson and Sons Rigging.

I checked the spots posted here from people on 5-6 different realm and found none.

I'd suggest it can spawn on any truffle but is just a rare like the violet truffle.

Can confirm what Esinar said, I found the sporonite in an area where I could only get there by using my Grappling Hook, it seems these truffles are separated by zones, I tried the whole map didn't found any Sporonite then I went to the area Esinar said and found one around that place cords 21.86 74.69

I think it's noteworthy to mention that you must engage the The Lichen King before using the Sporonite Bomb. If you use it out of combat, it will not count towards Clever Use of Mechanical Explosives.

I found my Sporonite Bomb truffle at 54:56. Monel-Hardened Stirrups are extremely useful for this achievement.

Yesterday I got a Sporonite Bomb after the hotfix (forgot to notate the coords) but did not engage The Lichen King prior to throwing the bomb and did not get the achievement. Today I DID engage The Lichen King prior to throwing it and I still did not get the achievement.

9/30/18 Edit: finally got this achievement. Got my Sporonite Bomb at 48:71. This time I dismissed my pet (I'm a BM hunter) then engaged The Lichen King and whacked him a few times before throwing my Sporonite Bomb. Achievement then triggered. Unsure if my second attempt was just a random failure or related to my pet.

Now that this is obtainable, I recommend that if you're out and about searching for it, turn all your graphics settings to Low (exception being View Distance). This mushroom, unlike its counterparts, is much easier to see without getting nose-deep into a tree trunk. In fact, you can see them fairly easily even zoomed out all the way making it much easier to just drive-by a bunch of trees. I wasted two Pig Nose buffs examining every tree basin and bush trying to do it with Ultra settings initially.

I'll also note that within one Pig Nose cycle, after adopting the above tactic, I was able to find 3 Sporonite Bombs all in the north-northeastern section (generally around Windfall Cavern and the nearby mountains).

Just as I was about to give up, I found one at 17:37 server time at the coordinates 28.50, 76.42. Had picked up 5-6 speed buffs. 10 magic truffles and 1 violet truffles before I got lucky. Halfway through my third pig nose. Now for the Valley Truffle...

The Sporonite Bomb is NOT BoP, so you may find it occasionaly in AH if youre lazy like me

I was able to find Sporonite Bomb at 67.69 51.91, 72.90 65.72, & 58.94 77.89. Seems like truffle spawns are random and just spawn at locations where any truffle spawn is possible. My recommendation, pick up every truffle you see. Good luck!

Also, turning your graphic setting to the lowest possible setting helps these babies stick out like sore thumbs.

Spent an hour to lurk around trees in the center, North, South and East of the area and I only found the one granting speed boost and the purple one.

Five minutes looking in the South-West around 27 / 74 and I got both the sporobomb and the valley truffle. Try to focus on that part of the map if you are missing one of these two :-)

I just picked this up at /way 61.28 51.15 It took me almost 2 hours to find it and none of the other locations mentioned worked. Good luck!

Pro Tip - Set your graphics settings to the lowest they can go. The shrooms will stick out much more... I started doing this and for the first 15 minutes I had my graphics at max and my eyes were actually in pain already... I set the graphics to the dirt and boom, there they all were... I was able to do fast fly-byes in stead of examining each tree base. Trust me on this one.

Sporonite Bombs can only be seen and looted (unless you get them on the AH) by first purchasing an item with Briarback Quills.

Briarback Quills can actually be used to obtain TWO achievements, and they are both easy to get as long as players are willing to be patient and hold a few items in their bags. Briarback Quills drop from a variety of Briarback mobs, and just through simple questing & WQ's you can obtain quite a few of them. (If you are only interested in the achievement that goes along with the Sporonite Bombs, just jump to the part of my comment that says "Bonus Achievement".)

As soon as you have a stack of 25 quills, use them to buy a Pig Nose from Hobbs. Don't save the quills up for a bunch of pig noses if you can help it, because it is much easier to do this achievement in increments to avoid fatigue. The pig nose lasts 15 minutes, and that seems like a pretty good amount of time to search without losing your mind.

The pig noses will allow you to see special truffles in Stormsong Valley. Having all of the buffs from the truffles active at once will give you the achievement Every Day I'm Truffling. Don't bother with waypoints or mapping or anything like that. I tried that and it was a gigantic waste of time because there are just too many truffle spawn points to even keep an organized route. They seem to spawn under all the trees, so just look under every clump of trees you see, make sure to zoom in your camera and wiggle your mouse back and forth to make sure you haven't missed one. They are very small, and you can't target the truffles, but a tooltip will appear if you hover over one. (Note: it is extremely helpful to temporarily turn your graphics down so that the ground clutter is at a minimum.)

Grab every truffle you see, even ones you don't need, because they will cause a respawn. As far as I could tell, the name of the truffle had nothing to do with where they spawned, they all seem to be able to spawn anywhere in the zone.

The Turbo Truffle looks like a brownish-yellow mushroom with a green fringe. They don't give loot, only a buff. These are the last ones you need to worry about, but again, just make sure that you are consistently looting all of them so that the ones you need will spawn.

The Magic Truffle is the easiest to find, it looks like a blue clump of mushrooms. You can sell them for 10g a piece to a vendor, try to sell them on the AH, or use them for the actual buff. Keep at least one in your bags at all times though so that you are able to quickly get the achievement when you finally collect all the other truffles.

The Violet Truffle looks like something from the void, purplish-black and comes to a sharp point on the cap. These are very rare. Do not be surprised if you go through more than one Pig Nose without finding any. If you have the money to spare, I would suggest searching for these on the AH. Otherwise, continue searching for them each time you have enough quills to buy a pig nose.

The Valley Truffle looks like a small white crystal. These are also very rare, and it should come as no surprise if you don't find any of them on one of your hunts. If you have money to spare, I would also suggest searching for these on the AH. Otherwise, continue to search the usual way.

Keep at least one of each mushroom in your bags until you have all three of the lootable ones! When you have collected all three lootable mushrooms (Magic Truffle, Violet Truffle, Valley Truffle), use one last Pig Nose to go searching for the Turbo Truffle buff. As soon as you find one and get the buff, eat one of each mushroom type from within your bags. This will instantly give you the achievement Every Day I'm Truffling.

BONUS ACHIEVEMENT:
At some point while searching for the other truffles, it is almost a guarantee that you will find and loot the Sporonite Bomb, which looks like a gray mushroom with a wide, flat cap. I found multiple of these while searching for the others. They are able to be sold on the AH, so if you don't feel like searching (or you have extra to sell) the AH is always a good alternative.

To get the Clever Use of Mechanical Explosives achievement, head to 51.8, 79.6 and engage The Lichen King. MAKE SURE to ENGAGE him in combat before throwing the Sporonite Bomb. You will automatically receive the achievement, even if you die without actually killing the mob.

A little patience goes a LONG way in accomplishing these two achievements. If you try to grind it all out at once, you will probably lose your mind. This isn't one of those things that you just knock out really quick some night when you are bored, unless you feel like getting burnt out and/or threatening to throw your computer through a window. Just do it a little at a time and eventually you will get both of these achievements and it will feel like a breeze.

It feels like this mushroom is more rare than the other ones, except maybe the Valley Truffle , I only found one of that one while I have found two of the Sporonite Bomb. Anyway, you can be lucky or unlucky with finding the sporonite bomb truffle, I found the sporonite bomb after only 9 minutes while my bf, who introduced me to this achievement, needed 20+ minutes until he got his, which I also helped him with. He had tried another day as well, so maybe he had used over half an hour, I don't know. It spawns under trees like the other mushrooms, and by the way remember to save or use the mushrooms you find if you want to complete the achievement Everyday I'm Truffling
