This list is a loose quote, with notes, wowhead links, and updates over time from new info. Credit goes to the Alliance player Leefa who made most of the screenshots in the list, Kashydan following along from the Horde, and Puxpux for the screenshots of the final part.

If you want to follow along with the findings, since multiple people presented the ideas that lead to these actions, this is the MMO-C thread where all of this information has been shared. Despite the title of the thread being "Shattered", the conversation shifted to Corrupted once it was realized that Shattered is the skin tied to a later patch. General credit as a whole goes to the dedicated Discord channel for constant testing and finding.

As a disclaimer, I was not involved in the findings. This comment is just aggregating all the info and will be updated appropriately.

Artifact Knowledge (AK) comes from Sister Elda's work orders for Artifact Research Notes. Knowledge is per character, which means all three specs benefit from it at once. Ashbringer's Level (traits purchased) and Artifact Power do not affect these events.
Patch 7.3: All level 110 characters have more than 40 levels of Artifact Knowledge automatically.

You have to do everything in the order shown. You can, however, get the books after AK6 and get Nefarian's head after getting the new book.

If you are waiting for the slime or fishing and are not sure you'll get anything, use the following script to check your quest progress.

Shout out to all those palas out there going nuts farming b/c of the "new" Corrupted Ashbringer:

Do yourself a GREAT favor and try not to farm A Thoroughly Read Copy of "Nat Pagle's Guide to Extreme Anglin'." with your paladin. You will spend too much time. The book is not BoP, thus tradable. So...

You probably have already noticed that your paladin is so slow in this expansion in comparison to other classes. Three seconds of Divine Steed with a CD 45 sec is a joke, even if you can use it twice. And is hard to keep up and thus a pain in the ass - besides, what are 20 % if even a shaman for example gets 30 % permanently?

Now, this is the problem: While the book itself is almost a 100 % drop from A Dusty Tome, the tome itself has not a 100 % chance to appear. So as long as your not one lucky chap you will find yourself running DM over and over again. Plus: Old instance, long ways to run, just to see your tome not there.

For the reasons above I highly recommend you to use a Demonhunter to farm instead. Even a fresh Lvl 100 is fine. Due to his Mastery: Demonic Presence his movement speed is permanently greatly increased (Lvl 100 quest gear: 20 %). But what's even better: With his Super-Mario-Double-Jump and gliding, a DH can easily overcome chasms. Now this will save you lots of time.

What you want to do is, go to DM EAST with your DH. There will be two tomes that are of interest for you, one close to the entrance and the second next to the first boss Lethtendris. Luckily, for the first one you will not have to run around the whole court. As a DH you can simply double jump (in dangerous situations use Fel Rush) over the chasm on the left next to the entrance. The first book can be found right next to the group of Whip Lasher with a bit of luck. The next one will be, as said, close to Lethtendris at the far rear left end.

In case you were not lucky, head back to the entrance and reset the instance.

If you're really lazy and don't want to waste your time with actively searching for the second tome, you can also just focus on the first, since you will see whether it's there or not right when you get into the instance even before you jump. However, I have found the second tome to be significantly more often there than the first. And of course there is a limit to resetting the instance.

Oh, and by the way: Now that you know a way to easily farm the book....it can be sold on the auction house.

tl;dr Use a demonhunter to farm the book at DM EAST instead of your pally. It'll save you a lot of time.

For those that already have the hidden appearance, Here's how to track your hidden artifact appearance color variants through achievement progress:

/run AddTrackedAchievement(11152) - Complete 30 dungeons using a hidden artifact appearance. (This achievement does not display correctly)
/run AddTrackedAchievement(11153) - Complete 200 world quests using a hidden artifact appearance.
/run AddTrackedAchievement(11154) - Kill 1,000 players using a hidden artifact appearance.

Check all your hidden artifact appearance progress using this script

Kill Large Vile Slime on the eastern river bank of Western Plaguelands

Drops Timolain's Phylactery which summons Timolain the Accursed. The slime has a faction tag and ~16 hour spawn, but unknown if more than one player can tag it. Timolain threw Shard of Darkness into the water which you then fish it up. It took 350 casts in the river next to where the slime spawns. <screenshots>

Goes with part from EQ

He will give you back an artifact called Miragul's Philactery[ (dialogues needed). You must then head to the Everfrost caves, which you get to by going through a hole in the ice at the river (enduring breath is very useful for this trip). Get an enchanter to charm the Lich and then hand him the Phylactery (charming may not be required - lich will be KoS but you can still do the hand-in). This will spawn the true Miragul, a 53+ necromancer who is as hard to kill as a dragon, so make sure you have lots of friends with you. When you kill him, he drops the robe and his head.

Several small similarities from EQ, talking about corruption, an item that glows with a sickly green aura (Much like the icon from WoW's quest item Heart of Corruption), The Shard of Darkness is a weapon from EQ which Shadow Knights (the polar opposite of Paladins) can use, and finally, fishing may not be involved with the Paladin Epic 1.0, but it definitely is with the 1.5.

A few far stretches, but very much similar.

Just fished up my shard of darkness after 3,7k fishing casts, luckly got my slime kill on the 29th at around 2pm where barely anyone had AK6.

Also if you are unsure because you fished for hours and you didin't get it you can type this line and it either will say true or false if you are eligable to fish up the shard.

Got it in less then 5 hours, was pretty lucky. Here's my experience:

Bought dire maul book from AH for 13k, then did AV 3 times. I would say AV book dropped after around 20 kills.

Now the fun part comes. I was waiting for the slime to appear. Was waiting on MY server and after around 2 hours strange thing happened. I was zoned out and there was only me and the slime at the area (everyone else dissapeared wtf) so I killed it and got the item.

I fished for less then 2 hours and I got the item after 437th try. Here's the proof: http://imgur.com/x4YAR1L

The taggin of this mob looks a bit weird.
Last afternoon, after waiting for 9 hours (some of the present reported to be waiting for 30), the slime spawned and inmediatly got grey tagged.
I am alliance, and some of the alliance paladins there said they got the item, while I saw one of the hordes fishing in the river later, what makes me think he got it too.
Rumors say that only the first 5 players attacking it get credit, being or not in party.
Also heard rumors about it not spawning in consacrated ground or that aoe does not affect the tag and you must do a direct hit in order to get credit, but these afirmations smell more like one guy trying to scam the others to get credit :D
And I totally understand, being working with the game runing under and hearing constant sound of consacration and spinning hammer casting is annoying at the least XD
Anyway, I really hope they fix this like they did with the Koshumoh orbs bottle necks, because it is an inmense waste of time to be here just waiting for a mob to respawn. For the holy or protection specs at least you have the chance to kill some mobs or even do wq in those zones while farming the items, but just waiting for a mob to respawn is far from the idea of fun I have in mind XD

Spawn Time was 24 Hours 15 Minutes.
I got my shard shortly after, about 3 hours of fishing, just over 610 casts.

spent several hours camping the slime, decided to download cross realm assist finally found an empty server about an hour in got the Timolain's Phylactery then it took me about 72 casts to get Shard of Darkness, also when i found the slime i made a custom group to share with others i think i got about 7-8 other people their tags so i was pretty happy

Do not use Timolain's Phylactery whilst in a raid group.

The stage does not get flagged as completed. If you do, you cannot fish up the Shard of Darkness and you will have to kill the Large Vile Slime again.

Type the following in to your chat box to check you can fish up the shard, before you commit yourself to a day of fishing:

/run print(IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(43685));

True means you can fish up the Shard of Darkness.
False means you cannot.

A word of warning to those starting this journey.

If you have more than 1 copy of either Nat Pagle book on you at the time you go to have it combined with the other Nat Pagle book by talking to Sister Elda, the process will consume ALL copies of either book that you have in your bags.

A ticket with Blizzard will not restore the extra consumed copies of either book:

To our dismay, Nat Pagle's Guide to Extreme Anglin' was unable to be found to be returned to you. This is due to Game Master's being unable to assist in acquiring Hidden Artifact appearances, even in cases such as this, where two of the books were consumed instead of just one :/

So if you have multiple copies of either Nat Pagle books, I would recommend you mail them to an alt before completing the step to combine them in your journey to obtaining the Heart of Corruption. I cannot say that placing extra copies in your bank will make them safe from being consumed (no way to test this currently).

After flying to Acherus: the ebon hold, and engaging with Lord Maxwell Tyrosus do not fly back to Dalaran before following Tyrosus to the Four Horsemen or apon reaching the designated zone no dialog will start and the quest will "bug out" making you unable to complete all the criteria of the Quest "Walking in Shadows"

1555 casts later and I finally collected the Shard, I won't be able to collect the skin till the evening sense the Champion is currently on a mission, the fishing portion of this quest is just too damned long and taxing, but I am glad I have it now, will post a screenshot later of the results. All-in-all pretty poor luck with this thing. I do have it as of a few minutes ago but let me detail my adventure here.

I began the quest several days ago, doing it during down-time and queues. Everything is really straight-forward, and easily attained until it's time to kill Large Vile Slime. At that point I spent about 10 hours waiting for spawn. This includes doing what I could to server-hop, and try to change shards a handful of times.

It's not a bad idea to start your fishing at this point! You do have a river running next to the spawn location, and it seems a waste to sit there and do nothing while you're camping!

After using the phylactery, and moving onto fishing for the shard: that's where the real struggle was! It took 3710 casts (this number is slightly skewed, as casts were often interrupted by pvp as I am on a pvp server, and occasionally hitting my hotkey for fishing out of reflex, instead of clicking the bobber) as counted by the fish and items in my bag from fishing in Thondroril River.

To break down how long that many casts takes: Let's assume the average cast time of "Fishing" is about 11 seconds (as my cast time for fishing is 22 seconds, this seems reasonable). This means that 3710 casts at 11 seconds apiece takes approximately 11.34 hours.

3710 x 11 (seconds for cast)= 40,810 (seconds)
40,810 (seconds) / 60 = ~680.17 (minutes)
680.17 (minutes) / 60 = ~11.34 (hours)

That being said, the events that follow after are a fairly satisfying reward! Happy farming, and enjoy your new Corrupted Ashbringer!

It's brutal. I saw some guy get one at 2100 casts :/ He may have gotten off lucky.

I just want to thank everyone who took time to figure this out and work on the guide here in the comments. I followed it to the letter, and other players in game were helpful in regards to shard hopping to tag the slime. I got the slim in a couple hours.

The fishing part?

Third cast. I think people around me were crying IRL. I was stunned. Crazy thing is even though I've played since vanilla beta I have probably cast a fishing line 5 times or so.

Got it in around 8.200 casts (in the pic below u will find around 8.040, the rest like potions, greens, non stackable rare fishes, etc.. was trashed for inventory reasons).
The actual probability, for me, is 0,00012% and almost 25 hours of fishing.

Proof

What i suggest to "enjoy" the journey is:

Turn off auto loot (atm some players experienced the "cannot loot item" which prevents them from looting the fished shard)
Turn off all addons
Buy giant bobbers from fishing vendors (that will help a lot when playing in windowed mode)
Configure WoW for windowed mode
Reduce the game window to its minimum size
Turn off all audio setting apart from effects (u need to know when to click the bobber)
When in position zoom to max so, in front of you, there will be only water and the bobber
Put wow window in one of the for screen corners and watch film/tv series until u're done

When you first get Heart of Corruption hidden skin, its greenish. Then you can unlock other colors by doing epic stuff.
I'm interested in the violet skin. It says you need to complete 100 dungeons. Anyone knows if those dungeons need to be Legion or if I can go all the way back and spam easy really low level vanilla's to get my skin?

Il confirm that every single bit of this guide is correct, after i done all the parts up to killing the Large slime, i had to server hop about 30 times with the help of ( Cross Realm Assist ) Addon, got to the mob while it had 5% left, tagged it and looted it, then on to the fishing part. i spendt exactly 1hr and 18 minutes fishing.. time flew if you have some randoms there to chat with just to take your mind off the fact that you are fishing :p I really really enjoyed this adventure! For veteran rets, this skin is absolutely worth the effort! And yes, this may test your patience, but again, you're doing this to get a real bad ass looking appearance.
I remember back in the day when only a handful of lucky souls could actually wield Ashbringer obtained from the very original naxxramas. And that in itself was far more of a painful experience to endure than the privilege we have today to obtain the skin!

As for myself, it took 3129 casts - which included some mana potions, 2x greens and a few healing potions.

Some advice for those of you who find the fishing part pure torment:
- Get a 2nd screen for your PC if you haven't gotten one already. I scooped up a cheapo used 19" LCD long ago for a few bucks, hooked it up onto my display card's 2nd output and normally use it to watch movies, series and youtube content while doing dull and borring wow related stuff that doesn't require my full attention.
- Get the Fishing Buddy addon which contains useful fishing tweaks and records your amount of casts.
- Buy the large baubles from the Dala fishing vendor which makes looting a bit easier.

For those who are camping the Large Vile Slime, you might also want to try:

1. Go back to the class hall and find one of the Paladin trainer, i.e. Vindicator Baatun.
2. Talk to him and line up for the proving grounds
3. Get in and transport out of the scenario
4. Fly from your class hall to the spawn point
5. Transport in and out with this macro:
/run LFGTeleport(IsInLFGDungeon())
6. Keep doing this until you are in the Large Vile Slime phase, it takes me about five hours to see this big guy.

I am too lazy to edit and put link on the text.
I write up this comments while I am fishing my shard. 500 casts and still no luck. To make this less boring, try doing the One That Didn't Get Away achievement if you don't have it yet.

After 18 hours in 2 days of camping the slime I finally started whispering pallies I saw via realm hopper to pst me if they saw it while they were fishing. Sure enough I got an invite and there was the slime. The guy who invited me said "now use the item, talk and start fishing. it would be bull@#$% if you got it first cast since i've been here 5 hours." sure enough, i got it first cast... praise be to RNGESUS!

Also you can set a custom alert message in NPC Scan you need to use the ID for the old removed Slime which is #12387 i used it and it works.

It seems that they have changed how the Slime spawns, because I got him twice within a 3 hour window. The first time I camped him I just showed up on and off, but this time I stayed for a couple hour fishing and running around. Then all the Paladins on the shore fishing and the other two disappeared and and there was the Large Vile Slime standing right in front of me. He is neutral and did not attack. No one else that was standing there with me or was on the shore was ported to the instance. I think this is how Blizzard solved the phasing issue. You get selected probably by RNG and then ported to the instance with the Slime. He did not spawn in the instance I was in I was taken to him. He is a tough fight that is designed for multiple Paladins fighting him at once. I am a 849 Paladin and almost died as a Ret and had to run away. When I lost aggro and returned he was still there. I switched to Protection and had soloed him from there. The loot still dropped from him.

So I go right to fishing along the shore and I was soon placed back in the instance where there was a lot of Paladins fishing on the shore and some waiting for him. This went on for a couple hours and then I left to grab a drink. I hear a bunch of fighting and sure enough I was in a private instance with two of the alliance Paladins that were waiting and only me (horde) on the shore. Everyone else was gone and the cool thing was, the two alliance Paladins brought him next to me and were fighting him there so I would hear the fight and run to the computer. Even though I did not need it, I help them finish him off and back to fishing. Soon after a bunch of Paladins fishing on the shore started popping up.

Point is I do not think he spawns, if you are there on the shore where he spawns then you get selected to be pulled into a private instance where he is waiting and yes I believe it is RNG.

I got him 2 times in less than 3 hour window. This also confirms while I was waiting other Paladins did not gate or log out they just disappeared, which I thought was odd. Congrats to the two alliance Paladins!

Just happened again. I went to bed and got on after work today and was fishing with a lot of other Paladins and then a couple of us were phased out an there he was again waiting. All the other paladins on the shore disappeared and it was only the four of us.

I think it is a random RNG, because he does not spawn, you get selected and taken to him. If not all the Paladins on that shore would have seen him spawn and been there foe that fight. That is 3 times I have killed him in under 18 hours.

I would recommend hanging out or fishing on the shore and eventually you will get your RNG roll and be phased to him.

Just FYI, I killed the slime and started to fish around the river next to slime spawn point. I moved around that area occasionally but for most part stayed within the area. My fishing skill was 800 and I did not equip a rod. I received the Shard of Darkness after a total of 1,491 casts. I did not cast continually either (because I have a life LOL). I took several breaks to do world quests, run raids, mythics, etc. The Shard of Darkness eventually dropped for me on the second day of this GRIND (yes it is a nasty GRIND for some) on the 9th cast. In all I caught the following (course it does not matter it will be random for everyone):

2x Raw Greater Sagefish;
4x 19 pound Catfish;
1x 26 Pound Catfish;
512x Raw Bristle Whisker Catfish;
954x Raw Mithril Head Trout;
6x Mana potion;
2x Greater Healing potion;
1x Smoothbore Gun;
9x miss casts (either clicked to early by accident, moved and disengaged, or miss clicked bobber);

For some strange reason blizzard decided to flip this skin over in 7.1.5, so the skull is facing forwards and the blade's tip is jutting out to the side, instead of slightly clipping through the ground on human males. The way it was before was one of the reasons I always wanted it, since no other single bladed 2h sword was the same; now it just feels off. Lazy way to "fix" that clipping if that was the reason for the change.

So after camping for more than 30 hours i used the Server Hop addon and found the Large Vile Slime that was untapped. I did a /y to let everyone know it spawned and a PALADIN *!@#$%bag named Dackifacki from Twisting Nether attacked and killed me twice as i was auto-attacking the slime waiting for others to join. By the time i corpse ran for the second time, the slime was dead and i couldn't loot it. Needless to say, i am pissed off and have opened a ticket.

If you see Dackifacki on Twisting Nether, please pass on to him that i hope karma hits him hard.

Slime dead on Frostmourne realm as of 20mins ago - Someone thankfully placed a group in the group finder. Currently fishing for shard will do the same on my home realm if it spawns.

Just want to give some hope! Took me about three tries a 5 min to find the slime within four days. The fishing part also took only 57 tries for me. So all in all the "grindy" part was quite harmless. Maybe I was extremely lucky or it got secretly nerfed ;-)

FYI...as soon as you consume this it will do the "thrust Artifact in the air/spin camera around" thing so if you are looking to screen cap a cool pic of you getting Corrupted Ashbringer make sure you're in an area without NPCs and other junk in the way.

Missed it by a few minutes yesterday so decided to give it another go. Was waiting around for almost 5 hours today, it popped up around 12.25. Waited a couple of minutes for other people to come. Killed it, used the phylactery and started fishing. Flew to a town nearby to level up fishing, flew back and I guess I must've phased because it was up again. Phased to another while making a group for it, where it was also up (at 13.02) :P Made group and was able to help 2 paladins with it.
Continued fishing after and took me about 80casts to get the shard :D So, yay lucky :D Now i have to wait 4 hours till Tyrosus comes back from a mission.

I guess I got lucky but I think it's kinda silly that some classes/specs can just buy their "hidden" skin while others are at the total mercy of the RNG gods (and random spawns)

My server was Bloodhoof/Khadgar, killed 2 at 12.30 and 13.05 but due to crz and phasing I don't know if this info is any useful. Good luck to everyone still trying to claim this one.

To counter any discouragement some players might think when they first come and read some of the posts about the bottlenecks in this chain, it appears that the Large Vile Slime spawn time has been increased and amount of fishing has been reduced, both significantly. I do not know if that was in the latest patch or a previous patch that these changes occurred.

When I got to the Large Vile Slime portion of the quest it was already spawned with no one waiting for it. I killed it and looted the phylactery. Moved on to the fishing portion. It look me exactly 45 casts. I flew back to where the slime spawns and it was back, probably around 15 minutes after I killed it.

I'm not saying any of this to brag - the fishing was nerfed a while ago. Multiple people on Reddit and in my guild have confirmed that it's less than 100 casts, more often less than 50, to get the shard. However, many waited multiple hours for the slime, so the spawn timer increase seems like a much more recent change.

Here is my journey to get the hidden appearance,

Played two Alterac Valley matches by choosing specific and not through random, won both. The second win I was awarded the book.

The 2nd book I found in Dire Maul North sitting next to the final two bosses.

I already had Nefarian's head in my bags since I had been farming BWL for xmog the last few weeks.

After waiting for a couple hours for a slime to spawn I started to research if there was an easier way. By using the advice from a couple others in the thread I was able to find a slime using a trial account on a RP realm. Created trial class horde toon, hearthed to garrison, used portal to Ashran, then portal to Undercity. Found on Argent Dawn US today, was able to invite two paladins on my realm that also needed the slime. Logged back on to my paladin, they invited me to the group and we killed the slime. Thanks to the users in this thread for the helpful advice, saved a lot of time.

I fished out the shard on the 85th cast.

Did not take very long at all using the advice here, started the night before and finished today. I would estimate it took 4 hours to complete everything. Could have saved time by using the trial class trick earlier.

Blizzard either nerfed this, or I am stupid lucky. And given the rest of my life, I am going with nerf.

AV took the longest, clocking in at 8 matches over a three day period. Finally won the book when I lost the BG. Queue times of 30 minutes meant I got to go out and do my normal thing in between battles.

Slime was there on my first search, right next to the river and just outside the cavern near the bridge. Look north when nearing the bridge. And, after I killed him, he was back within five minutes. (I spent those five minutes buying a fishing pole.)

Fished up the shard on the fourth cast. Yes, fourth. Stood right next to bridge, if that matters, right near where the slime was. He says in the dialogue that he threw it in. I assume it didn't go far.

I salute all of you pioneers who endured hours of waiting for respawn timers, and long periods of fishing, and whatnot. And I appreciate all of your !@#$%ing to Blizz to make this less difficult. It paid off.

Now, once Tyrosus gets back, I shall have me my Corrupted Ashbringer. Finally.

I do not know if this is true or RNG, but this is my story and I'll stand by it.

After I acquired the phylactery and talked to Tim I started to fish for the shard, after a few casts I decided to use a fishing rod to boost my skill. After 100 casts (33 catfish, 66 trout and 1 9 pound trout) I wondered if I needed the Ashbringer equipped. So I equipped the Ashbringer and on cast 101 I got the shard.

Its possible you need to be in retribution spec and have the Ashbringer equipped to acquire shard.

Done this today. I don't really know how long it took but for nat pagle books I did Alterac Valley twice because it didn't drop first time and also ran Dire Maul twice. When I went to kill the slime it wasn't there. Waited for a while but it didn't show up then I realized I forgot my fishing pole at the bank so I hearthstoned back to Dalaran, came back to Thondoril river and the slime was there. Killed it, looted the phylactery, talked to the lich and started fishing. I fished like 30 fishes and finally got the last item.

Nice. Hunter's buy their Hidden off a vendor. Paladins need to run a BG with a long queue time, and hope people try to PvP in it (Most of the time in AV it's "avoid PVP so we can win" strat) and hope the book drops. Or buy it for 100k+ on AH. And that is just the FIRST step.

I got my corrupted ashbringer 20mins ago and it was prolly the best hidden artifact experience I ever had (I have almost done all the hidden artifact appearences).
I bought the books cause I had a hard time dropping them, when I went to Slime I was kinda surprised because my server is kinda high populated (outland) so I wasn't expecting the Slime to just be there but it was, then I had to go back to Ironforge and learn fishing (never fished with this alt before) and then I went back to Thondroril River, It took me 36 casts to fish the Shard. From what I heard It seems that Blizz increased the drop rate chance of all the Hidden Appearences in 7.3 so I guess that means that the drop % of the shard was also Increased (maybe they also lowered the respawn of the Slime?) . Now I hope that we get to keep our artifact appearences for the upcoming expansions.

I got pretty lucky with this. Started Monday, won AV on the first try, and was automatically given the first book. Got the second book from my third or fourth run through Dire Maul. Finished up the requirements up to the slime, then waited until Tuesday after the server reset to kill it. After 83 casts, I got the crystal :)

Some very important information for all you retribution paladins, who like me couldn't get into AV BG (6h queuetime for 3 times without a pop) to get the books and have ridiculous prices for the Nat Pagle AV book in the AH (450.000g on my realm at the time of writing this):

You can unlock skin number 2,3,4 if you have ANY other hidden artifact on your paladin! If you get the prot one from the Suramar Wretched quest (which is RNG but doable) or happen to have the Holy one drop while questing (happened to me) then you do NOT have to do the ridiculous questline for Corrupted Ashbringer. You can just unlock the other skin colors with the Hidden skin that you have and those will also be unlocked for your Retri Artefakt.

I just noticed this after talking to some paladins and then trying it and it saved me hours of waiting for AV queue.

Hope this information helps someone else too.

It took me two runs in dire maul for the book. Four and a half hours for AV and received the book on the win. Fished up the shard within 75 casts. Better than just mindless grinding.

I got the book in DM just running old content for the hell of it on my DH, second run of DM. Looked it up here on WoWhead to see what it was. Ran AV on my pally in prot spec and got the other book after the second bg, took about an hour between que and bgs. Ran BWL and got Nefarion's head. Did all the "go here, talk to npc" stuff. Vile slime was up when I got there, killed it and got the phylactery. Started fishing at lvl 138 and got the shard on my 10th cast. In total, it took less than 2 1/2 hours to do everything after finding the first book.

Either this has all been nerfed or I was just extremely lucky. Happy farming.

looted 8 bodies in my first AV for nat pagle book 1
had to reset dire maul east only 3 times, found it by first boss.
made a trial 100 on low pop rp realm, found the rare, logged back on my main to server hop and the rare was alive.
starting fishing at level 1
obtained the crystal at level 96.

saw the rare spawn as I flew back in from training fishing at lvl 75, gave the tag to a paladin in another instance. I had on a basic white fishing pole with a giant fishing bobber and a +50 worm food buff.
he obtained the fishing item within 20 casts, he had found it before I could even say good luck and leave group.

this felt extremely nerfed unless I'm the luckiest paladin in the game right now

Start to finish this only took me 3 hours, not even consistently as I got food and other couple minute breaks from the game to prepare myself for an 8 hour fishing fest that I was able to avoid.

I never did this long questline to get the Heart of Corruption item, yet after 200 World Quests, the Red Corrupted Remembrance tint unlocked. Across the whole bottom bar, only the 3rd red box is usable. If you are dead set on the green tint, I guess you must do all this stuff for the green tint, but the Dungeon and enemy players killed tints will likely unlock as well. The only other tint I have unlocked is Bar 2 Greatsword of the Righteous.

What I truly dread is all the crap involved with Balance of Power! Then doing it on EACH of my alts. NO WAY Blizzard!

Took only 50 casts for me to obtain the shard surprisingly. Started at 0 fishing skill and got the achievement for 50 fish along with the shard. lol

Also, it appears that they fixed things to where even if Tyrosus is on a mission, he will still appear at the table for you to show the shard to and start the quest to obtain the hidden skin, so that's a plus.

I'm gonna get stacked and put on fire for this...

But after camping for the vile slime for 2-3 hours last week, I got fed up with it, and left to do somrthing else. And then I decided to have a go at it again, today.
Behold, the vile slime is there, up and alive. Opened up the LFG tool and waited 10-15min, but no-body came.
I took it down with wings, btw it's soloable with ret 930'ish. Then I talked to the ghost guy that comes when you click the phylactery etc etc.

Then I took the fishing for a spin. And I got the shard after the 16th cast.
GL to anyone else that attempts this, just try to do this right after the server restart so you don't have to wait forever for the slime to spawn, or so I've heard.

Btw the Large Vile Slime up again at Ragnaros-EU now as I'm typing this, litterally 10min after I killed the slime.

I got the bok from my first AV
Getting the second half of the book was probably the longest part. I had to reset about 4 times.
The slime was there when I flew over & it only took 42 casts to get the last piece.

I have a feeling they buffed it.

Waiting for the rare spawn was the hardest. The fishing took 115 casts and the pally I was fishing with only took him 36 casts we were both level 1 fishing.

Just completed this today. Took me about 2 hours to finish everything after receiving the Nefarian head. Fished up the shard in about 20 casts. If you are having issues with the Nefarian head dropping put in a support ticket to blizz and they will help with that. Apparently it is a bug.

As of today 6/29/2020, I am inclined to believe the comments about the drop rate of the Shard being drastically reduced. I received it after a measly 33 casts, starting from level 1 fishing. This is, of course, subject to chance as is anything else, but in my experience with the brutal luck of drop rates, this one did not appear to be as bad as it was in early Legion.

To anyone trying to get this after patch 9.0, a few things have changed. For starters, since you can get your artifact at an earlier level, you may want to start working on this before level 45. You can get the two books and Nefarian's head, however you cannot talk to Sister Elda to continue until you reach 45. After that point though the process is the same. You can make your life a bit easier when camping the slime by changing between war mode on and off. You can also change your timewalking campaign, as this will put you into a different shard as well. Keep in mind though, if you change to a timewalking campaign it will make the slime and surrounding enemies scale to your level. Best of luck if you're trying this!

When trying to get the Large Vile Slime, using a second account to check quiet realms using 110 trial characters worked the best for me. Still took an hour or two creating multiple characters and flying them over to check though. I found DK worked the best as you can use death gate then fly straight from Ebon Hold in under a minute. I think I got lucky with the fishing part as I caught that on my 9th cast.

The Book was in my First Dires Maul, Slime spawned the next morning after staring the quest and it took me exactly 25 Fishing Attempts and got my Crystal. Ez Quest lol. ^^

you can actually get this without doing the pre req's just get a hidden artifact on a different spec, and you can unlock the other colours such as the kill 1000 players after unlocking a hidden artifact:)

As of 9.1 , this item is still obtainable.
Randomly dropped a book while doing Alterac Valley, 2 hours later i had the appearance. The slime was there waiting for me , and i fished the crystal in only 27 attempts.
Remember to set your spec to retribution, or you won't be able to turn in the two books.

Please note that for those that are trying to unlock the Corrupted Ashbringer with a character that you did not play during Legion, you must obtain Ashbringer before Sister Elda will combine your books together.

So, I have completed it all and got the Heart of Corruption on my lv 50 pally, but I have been unable to actually use it.

I have tried relogging but it is not working, I still can't use the item to get the appearance.

Any idea? Or is that I have to be at max level, which is 60 now? But then again that wouldn't make sense to me since Legion content is outdated already.

For the fishing portion: 50-100 casts, unless you got some crazy fishing skills with cool rods, then it could be less.

For the glob: I kept switching phases; WM on/WM off and that seemed to do the trick to finding him. Other Paladins will try to camp him as well, your best bet is to team up with them to kill him. By that I mean inviting them to a group.

You may be able to buy some of the books off the AH but they could be expensive.

i don't care what nerd or nerds are in love with classic there are alot of reason i didn't care about it or for it.here is the point everything else from legion as of DRAGON FLIGHT should not require much if any of this garbage for a reskin for something that's old outdated and almost no one cares about unless you happen to be wondering why you don't have that one .i hate pvp and at no point after solo shuffle am i going to do it again for a transmog that again is all but useless .this is retail if you like classic so much go over there. in the meantime blizzard can just give all that up like they have for almost everything else that's older than dirt.this is the 5th time i was doing something that wasn't current and ran across something that should not be a thing the color maybe the quest for it no.legion still has two of the longest boring useless quest lines as is we don't need anymore .really when you have more than one toon unless you have zero else to do you airnt doing balance of power 6 times or this side up anymore than maybe once if that.its as bad as everything being soulbound.this again isn't the first time this has been brought up.if you did it good for you the rest of us moved on like the expansions did.get rid of it blizzard that's my point and just give the color.
