It's worth noting, that upon using this item it will be deleted and instead you will receive a buff that tracks the book completion percentage.

You will lose this buff on death, effectively wasting the book.
Don't use it in a battleground like I did.

While people are reporting this as PVP kills, nothing I see about the script *or* the spell the book casts indicates that this is only PVP kills.

To quote:
"Killing enemies that reward XP will add a line to the book."

As such, while I have not yet had the chance to test it, this item is probably better used for those who are questing (in various ways) rather than trying to use it in PVP in any way. Particularly if the buff drops on death!

Worthless, and rather disappointing. I just looked to see if I had my buff so I could check my percent, but it was gone, of course, because I must have died at some point. The item tooltip doesn't bother to mention this very important detail. I thought it would be fun and might create something to read, but I was mistaken. Maybe someone will reply to my comment here just to rub salt in the wound and tell me to get good.

This is ridiculous. The tooltip should say that it goes way if you die. The mats are waaay too expensive for this. Especially if you sell it for 44g. Stupid stupid stupid.

While leveling an alt who also has inscription, I decided to use one of these to complete it passively as I leveled.
After about an hour and a half to two hours of leveling, I got to around 49%. Went and grinned out mobs to complete it, and also farm for the quest item to get a rank up for dreamleaf gathering. Got to around 60%, then I died after aggroing too many mobs, and lost the buff. Then I came here, and found out that it only vendors for 44g, or trades in for 200 sightless eyes.
Note to self: Always check wowhead before you waste mats and time, instead of trying to find out for yourself.

You'd think finishing it would at least give you an achievement also. Like... "And Lived to Tell the Tale" or "When I Write the Book" or something.

7.1.5: Does anyone know if this item has since been adjusted to not be removed upon death? Or if the rewards were increased at all?

If not, will there be any adjustments when we reach 7.2?

went into a raid thinking YAY... died... lost the buff (not a item for progression i though sooo made another waited)

on completion....
not even worth 50g.... (40g i think it was i forget)

Doesn't seem to work in dungeons... or, at least, not Timewalking dungeons. I used this item then went into a Pit of Saron group, and the buff was lost immediately on entry. I didn't die once in the time I was there, so it can't have been that — unless using Feign Death counted for some bizarre reason.

I only noticed the buff was gone when the dungeon was complete and I returned to Goldshire to check my progress.

TL;DR - Not worth it.

If you happen to find yourself in the unlikely position of being flush with these mats, yet struggling to collect Sightless Eyes, this could help you...maybe. But the rate of exchange here is VERY punishing! If you can't live without a rat mount, I'd say just bite the bullet and head for the Dalaran sewers.
