I'm not quite sure I understand. I just made this in my garrison and I received Chainmail Socks & Invisible Dust...which are obviously not the same and cannot be combined. Each one says that it has a "1 day" duration...making me think that, after "1 day" of real time, it will disappear. This seems like kind of a crap-shoot waste of mats.

Two random Partial Receipts can be made daily (cooldown resets daily) ~~and they will become an Expired Receipt after 24 hours~~. If you use your daily cooldown in the evening and then in the afternoon of the next day you can have four random receipts therefore having a higher chance of finding two matching ones. Putting two matching receipts together will create one of the following:
Small Merchant Order that can be sold for 25 gold
Merchant Order that can then be sold for 75 gold
Large Merchant Order that can be sold for 225 gold

IMPORTANT!

It is worth noting that the receipts are NOT soulbound, and therefore can be traded. However, since they have a limited duration on them, they cannot be mailed or put on the auction house. They can only be physically traded. Ask around trade chat or your guild and you might find some nice people/friends to trade with. :)

Having a follower with the Inscription trait at your Scribe's Quarters Level 2 awards you the option of creating a Draenor Merchant Order ONCE a day. To do this, you must speak with your assigned, Inscription follower who will give you a chance to create a full Draenor Merchant Order using:

Cerulean Pigment x 4
Light Parchment x 2

Doing so will award you with two Partial Receipt (Random):

If luck grants you 2 "identical partial receipts", you can immediately combine them to create one of three possible Merchant Orders:
Since the two partial receipts you will receive are random, you may not get 2 "identical partial receipts".
If that is the case, you will have to wait until daily reset to make another set (again, using your assigned follower).
You may also mail, trade, or auction them.

The point of these Merchant Orders is simply a way to make gold if you have spare Cerulean Pigment.

EDIT: updated for Patch 6.1. Receipts no longer expire.

It appears that in 6.1 they have removed the expiry on these - I don't see anything on the tooltip about duration and I have several that have been in my bags well over 24 hours.

With the removal of an expiration, these can now be put on the AH. I always store mine in the AH for 75 to 150g buyouts until I get 2 and then I combine them.

If I find any in the AH for less then 70g or so I buy them. Anecdotally it seems to be approximately 90% chance to yield the normal 75g version, 5% chance for 25g small version, and 5% chance for 225g large version. I do them every day but did not collect the exact numbers to give a real analysis so take this with a grain of salt.
