Whatever happened to crowd control?

When I was leveling my first toon, way back in my noobie years, seeing crowd control in 5-man dungeons like Scarlet Monastery was common. My groups would go out of their way to invite mages for their polymorph ("sheep moon") or rogues for their sap ("sap star"). I always got a kick out of seeing a hunter freeze an enemy in a block of ice ("freeze square").
But in modern content, like heroic 5-man dungeons, I can't remember the last time I saw anyone ask for crowd control. In fact, when I'm tanking, I get annoyed when I see a shaman use hex or see a paladin use repentance, because it slows things down and reduces the effectiveness of my tanking.
I'm just wondering when Blizzard decided to create content where forms of crowd control weren't necessary or desired.

I've done H MgT with no CC, no AE, and no pally tank (Actually, I've done it a lot, H MgT is my favorite dungeon, my main has the mount, the bag, the phoenix hatchling, and a vial of the sunwell). Sure its a lot harder, but most players are just *!@#ing whiners who think just because they can kill some T5 bosses means they deserve to stomp all 5 man dungeons. Blizzard just needs to man up and say "If you suck, you don't get loot", the normal mode is there for those who suck, and leave for heroic for those who actually want a challenge.

I mean, I remember as recently as Karazhan some crowd control was required. When I'd run it with my priest I'd always be in charge of shackling one of Moroes' adds or one of those Skeletal Ushers.
Seems like most mobs are immune to crowd control anyways.
