Another raiding resto shammy here. Sooo much fun :)
And no, it's not just about spamming chain heal. If you're assigned to be the raid healer for the night, then there's going to be some chain heals, of course, because that is one powerful AoE heal. But seriously, we can heal anything any way we want to.
During our guild raids we're often taking 2 shammies and a holy priest, so the shammies get lots of MT/OT assignments (we like to mix it up a bit on bosses, based on player/class strengths and mechanics of the fights etc).
We ran a full Naxx 10 clear the other night with only two healers - shammies - and a feral (cat) druid who went resto for about 4 boss fights, and we steamed through faster than we ever have before. You can't do that by spamming chain heal all the time.
Seriously, it's a fun class to heal with (I also have a resto druid, and I prefer the shammy), just don't level as resto. Elemental is a good, fun levelling spec, and will give you an introduction to the spellcasting side of the class. It's also not bad for healing normal instances as you're levelling so long as you remember to pick up some healing gear.

So, level ele? not enh? got it :>.
Well, personal preference, but I wouldn't level Enhance. I did for 40-odd levels and found it kinda boring. Ele at lvl 40-something and stopped that way till 78 :) Anyway, that's just me.
Also: your signature made me cry a little bit inside :'(
Wut? Why?

If you want to be able to solo your way through Northrend elite quest that require a tank, pick Ele(so your heal is decent enough to keep up Earth Elemental, or yourself while the fire elemental burn the elite down)
Why? I found that enhancement worked quite well for soloing elite quests because, at level 59, you can heal yourself instantly.
Enhancement is also good because you rarely run out of mana. You can also get some practice healing instances. I'm not sure that enhancement is really that good before level 40, though.

Enhance is awesome for leveling, too. Actually it is said to be even a little faster then elementat post-40. With the instand heals elite mobs are also not that hard.
You get 30% of your AP as SP and you get great manareg talents as enhance so you can heal instances nearly just as good as elemental (or just get dual spec and be a full resto healer in instances).
It's really a matter of personal preference. I hate LB spam and like the enhance attack skills much more.

While Enhance is a whole lot of fun to level (and my personal preferred DPS spec over Elemental in all honesty), if you're wanting to go Resto fast it'll be much easier to swap gear out with Elemental due to how it somewhat syncs with caster gear. It took me quite a while to gather gear to be an effective Resto spec since I went through to 80 on Enhance. It'll probably be a bit easier for you since you'll have a main to fund the Shaman, but nevertheless it'll get you comfortable with the idea while still leveling at an equivalent if not faster degree than Enhance (Ele isn't as gear-dependent as Enhance).
Oh, and as mentioned, we don't "Spam Chain Heal" and anyone who still does that as a Resto Shaman isn't doing it right. While we are not as dynamic as a Priest by any means, we still do have quite a few support tricks up our sleeves that makes it fun (Hex anyone?).
Besides, if you find you don't like to heal (hard with this class I tell ya!), you'll always have a good DPS support class either way (sure we still need some buffs, but who doesn't nowadays? :P)
