Profession for a feral druid

I just rolled a new druid (rerolled alliance to play with friends) and I would like some input on what profession to take. I asked my guild and they all say take JC and BS but I don't have any other chars that are just gatherers so I need a good single profession. I was thinking about LW so I can craft my own gear but I don't know if that is worth it.
Any input would be great.
Thanks

As far of my tbc experience that (Skinning and LW) was a good choice for me, it also made me a nice profit so i could buy my own mount without farming back then at level 40 (100g). Everything has its advantages and disadvantages but i'd say for your first character don't push yourself to much with professions, do what you would like to do, but its best to combine a gathering profession with a crafting one. Another great one is herbalism and alchemy. With mining/bs or jc or eng there are more likely ALOT more obstacles which you would like to avoid ;) (mining another 100 ores or whatever for those nasty skillups) I don't say lw has no obstacles but i'd say it got alot less, the best thing to do with lw is leveling in area's populated by beasts instead of humanoids. Herbalism and alchemy is really the best choice if you don't like to spend much time on it and still get a decent to good profit.
I'd hope this is a decent advice for you :P

Thanks.
I may try out LW. I was also looking into inscription. It seems easy to level but it has few perks other than the random darkmoon cards.
Any thoughts on that?
BTW... this isn't my first char but just my first alliance druid ( I have a 70 horde druid that I transfered off server to make room for my alliance one)

Leatherworking really doesnt make a whole lot of money. If you want to make money go JC/mining. JC has a pretty good bonus, but mining is 50 stam which isn't great for dps, but nice for tanks.

Ill probably drop mining and pick up enchanting for the extra HP.
You would end up losing 2 stamina in caster form dropping mining (50 stamina) for enchanting (2x 24 stam ring enchants).

Herbalism is awesome for tanks. 2000 self-heal is really good.
Inscription / Leatherworking / Jewelcrafting / Blacksmithing / Enchanting / Tailoring all have nearly exactly the same stats benefit on max level. If you want at least one gathering profession I'd suggest Herbalism + Inscription, otherwise Enchanting + Tailoring is just fine.
Skinning + LW won't make you able to craft your own gear. Generally you collect leather way too slow and LW will always be behind, making quest gear mostly superior to crafted ones. Skinning however is great for DDs / healers (crit rating) but about useless for tanks.

Got something to add ;) :
Every profession has some nice bonus while leveling and every profession makes good money at 80. Jewelcrafting is nice of cause but in no way superior to any other.
In the end it comes down to:
Do you want to make money? Chose 2x gathering.
Do you want to have a useful bonus at lvl 80? Chose either a crafting (doesn't really matter which one) profession or pick the gathering one that provides a useful bonus for you (herbalism is perfect for tanks, mining still quite good, skinning is nice for DDs/healers but not as good as crafting professions)
Do you want to be flexible at lvl 80 and be able to support any build you might want to play in instances (you will most probably end up the healer ...)? Pick any two crafting professions
When picking 2 crafting professions the bonus at 80 doesn't really matter. All professions are well balanced, the difference is very minor and if there is any it has to be expected that any profession that might be slightly superior now will be hit by the nerf-stick anyway.
That's why I'd recommend to chose the crafting professions simply by the utility they provide while leveling and by the cost.
Tailoring + enchanting is really awesome here. Cloth are quite cheap, you can disenchant any greens you find (including quest rewards) and you can disenchant what you tailor. Bags always sell, so do enchantments.
Another nice combination is leatherworking + enchanting (for duids). Without skinning you will have to lvl leatherworking via the AH. This will cost some money but leather is generally quite cheap and by disenchanting you will even get most of the money back (or at least be able to level 2 professions by only paying once). The benefit here is that when leveling via the AH you can keep your leatherworking maxed at all time since you do no depend on collecting leather with skinning. Your LW will then be generally ahead of your level, meaning that you can craft your own gear * .
It will cost more then tailoring but it will also help a bit when leveling. And the LW lvl 80 bonus is mostly considered to be a little better then the tailoring one (at the moment ... in the end I think both are equally strong but LW is a small permanent boost while tailoring has a strong one that has to proc, introucing an unwelcome random element).
Blacksmithing + jewelcrafting is a nice combination but extremely costly to level. The extra sockets from blacksmithing make sure that you will always be able to utilize your special jewelcrafting gems. I prefer blacksmithing over other crafting professions because of the keys. I hate to rely on rogues to open locks for me and being able to craft keys is just awesome (but sadly also expensive). If you also want keys then blacksmithing is the way to go - which combines great with jc as mentioned earlier or with enchanting (just like LW: disenchant the crafted stuff and sell mats at the AH / use them to lvl enchanting).
* explanation why skinning + LW will not help you craft your own gear without heavy use of the AH: skinning will give you leather quite slow so there is no way to get LW to (for example) 150 at lvl 20 using just what you can find with skinning. if you take skinning as profession and still want LW to be ahead of your level you will have to use the AH to buy leather. but then there is no point in having skinning anymore since your LW will be so far ahead of the monsters you skin that you won't have any use for the leather you get from skinning ... so in the end you will always buy high lvl leather from the AH to level LW and sell your own low lvl leather at the AH because it's useless to you. If you have to sell your own leather anyway you can just as well pick any other profession (e.g. sell herbs or metal which usually generates a bigger profit or go for another crafting profession which has a more useful stat bonus)

I ended up picking up Inscription/Herbalism.
I will end up going DPS(cat)/Boomkin once I hit 40 and I like the crafted offhands that you can make with this prof. My wife also plays a mookin druid and I thought I could help her out with crafting offhand and also the random darkmoon cards are nice for the decks or just to sell off the cards for extra gold.

Well thats a good decision, i couldn't really judge your situation and how you wanted things to go so :P most of the time advice is all you can get, the choice is up to you and it seems the thing you were already thinking about finally was your final choice ;)
I hope you'll do well on your alliance toon :P
(well my opinion came from a tbc view, as i said, there was not such thing as inscription and so i didn't take that profession into account :P)

3K heal when boss hits for 25K is completely useless
No it is not. Mining (50 Sta) gives 500 HP which translates to about 800 HP with bear form modifiers.
3000 heal every 2 minutes is A LOT better then having 800 more HP. Herbalism is way superior to mining for tanks.
Yes, it doesn't do much. 3000 heal is not much - but so is 50 sta. No profession provides a huge bonus, all professions offer are minor improvements. But the minor improvement you get from Herbalism is by far the best for any tank.
