I'm glad that the OP took time to notice that one class isn't better than the other, they just have different tools for the job. I've been preaching that for years and some people don't seem to get it.
Anywho...
I think that the differences were well pointed out by the posters above, but I feel like it's my duty to at least mention that priests were meant to have more tools for the job. Priest is a class designed to heal, but I often tell people not to let that discourage them from playing a healing shammy/druid/etc. Just because priests have the largest array of tools, it doesn't make them the best healers though. My time as a reso druid are testament to that.
Don't be daunted by the utility that priests have, as I'm sure you're aware of. If you really want to play a resto shaman, then I'd suggest you try it out and see what you think of it. Because it isn't the class that makes the best healer, it's the person.
I know that had almost nothing to do with OP's question. I just wanted to put that out there.

a Priest will probably be better because of their large array of spells.
Better for what? You can't just say "priest > shaman", the game doesn't work that way. As soon as Blizzard implements Bloodlust on a Priest......then maybe we can start talking who is better. Both have their advantages in certain situations.

Resto shamans are probably the worst choice for tank healers since all we can really provide for them is Earth Shield and a dumb rotation like Riptide/Chain Heal, Healing Wave, Healing Wave, repeat. (<---- not a mathematically proven answer)
However, I'm going to go on a limb and say that in most raid scenarios, Resto Shamans are the most efficient raid healers (but Resto Druids are pretty beasty at it as well). Not only does our Chain Heal jump 3 times when glyphed, it's powerful! Not to mention each jump targets a player with the least amount of health that's in range. That's smart healing that you don't have to worry about. You just pick whomever has the lowest health (who isn't already targetted by another healer) and let chain heal do the rest ;O.
Not only that, Earth Shield on tanks makes tank healing easier for the priests, paladins, and druids.
The only drawback is if you don't take breaks from casting chain heal, you WILL oom eventually. So you should itemize each fight efficiently, if possible have druids innervate you (as a worst case scenario), and use Mana Tide Totem whenever it's off cooldown to make use for it during long boss fights. If you gear up differently for each fight efficiently then there shouldn't be too much worry about getting a druid to help you. Yogg-saron is like a 15 minute boss fight so that's 3-4 times you can drop it.
Needless to say, if there's no replenishment in the raid group, you're BONED :O
I have one thing to say to this whole post: Shaman are no longer Chain Healbots. That is all.
EDIT: Oh fine, I'll expand. Shaman can tank heal just fine with everyone else, and can raid heal with the best of them. The key in doing this, is realising that you have more than just Chain Heal at your disposal. Thinking ahead and playing it right can keep you high in mana, and your tank high in health. The key, as was said above, is being skilled. Skill > Class/Spec almost all the times.
I've seen Paladins raid healing better than the Holy priest tank healing, but like I said, it just comes down to skill.

Chain Heal is the worst raid heal there is. Its hugely front-loaded healing makes it inefficient for virtually all kinds of raid damage and it heals less targets
even while glyphed
than druid and priest equivalents.
Oh, and it costs more mana.

I don't know about worst heal for a raid, if your job is for raid wide healing. At last check I was about to pull about 38-40 chain heals continuously before I would go out of mana and that does NOT include using manatide totem. Since then I do have better gear and would think that I could go 45+ chain heals before going OOM. Your not trying to bring everyone back to 100% then switch to another person to bring them back to 100% and keep switching. Spam on the lowest person, then switch, switch, and your could have several earthliving heals going at once. When I'm in a 25man raid I usually do raid wide healing and am running 1st or 2nd for heals.
I would think chain heals would be overpowered and definitely something that make a shaman unique. Look at all the totems that we are losing to other classes talents. At least we still have healing totem and chain heal.

Ya cant compare one type of healer over the other. Each has their special place.
But dont slam a shammy, Not many can out heal me in Uld and my overheals are no worse than any other class. It all comes down to the player not the toon .
ps edited for spelling

Tell that to the Pally healers. I bet they would switch thier AOE heal (beacon) for CH.
Beacon is not a raid healing spell. It is not even an AoE heal.
23% base Mana for 5(people) X 7(ticks) X 650 = 22750 healing.
HS Totem - Hits 25 people and lasts 5 MINUTES (Ulduar gear average 320 per tick) for 3% base mana!
3% base mana for 25(people) X (30 ticks/min X 5 Min) X 320 = 1,200,000 healing
WOW, in a vacuum HS Totem is way better!
HST only affects your party.
And your point is not taken. In a vacuum Chain Heal is way better, and druids and priests argue that. In practice both CH and HST are inadequate to WG and CoH.

4800 healing then. Now subtract 5000 overheal. :D
