I should probably be working on something more significant than this right now, but...meh. I've been wanting to post a thread like this for a long time now, and I plan to do it now.
The purpose of the topic will be to simply give ideas for possible future (hero) classes, which you, people, or even I, can develop more than a mere overview.
But before I jot my ideas down, let me do a breakdown of the current classes and specs, so we can see what we have, and maybe surmise what we need:
Classes with their specs:
Death Knight
: 3 Tank/Melee DPS
Druid
: Ranged (Spell) DPS, Melee DPS/Tank, Healer
Hunter:
3 Ranged (Physical) DPS
Mage:
3 Ranged (Spell) DPS
Paladin:
Healer, Tank, Melee DPS
Priest:
2 Healer, Ranged (Spell) DPS
Rogue:
3 Melee DPS
Shaman:
Ranged (Spell) DPS, Melee DPS, Healer
Warlock:
3 Ranged (Spell) DPS
Warrior:
2 Melee DPS, Tank
Overall that's:
6 Tank
trees, spread out between 4 classes
9 Melee DPS
trees, spread out between 6 classes
12 Ranged DPS
(3 Physical, 9 Spell) trees, spread out between 6 classes
5 Healer
trees, spread out between 4 classes
Primary armor type used:
Cloth
: 3 classes (7 Ranged DPS, 2 Healer specs)
Leather
: 2 classes (1 Tank, 1 Ranged DPS, 4 Melee DPS, 1 Healer specs)
Mail
: 2 classes (4 Ranged DPS, 1 Melee DPS, 1 Healer specs)
Plate
: 3 classes (5 Tank, 6 Melee DPS, 1 Healer specs)
Now, this being said...
Tank
and
Healer
classes are in shortage
Tank
and
Healer
specs in general are in shortage
There are fewer
Melee DPS
specs, than
Ranged DPS
specs (although the number of classes those specs belong to are equal - six)
There are only 2
Leather
and
Mail
classes, as opposed to three
Cloth
and
Plate
There is probably more information I could out of somewhere, but let's move on...
Class Ideas
:
Theologist
Overview
: With the recent discoveries of the history of the races made by Brann Bronzebeard, many denizens of Azeroth began to question the nature of their religions. Soon enough their views developed into a new movement - not quite a religion, for it was a combination of multiple religions found among the peoples in the world. Its followers's main belief is that there are only two kinds of magic - innate, given by the Titans themselves to certain races or individuals; and personal, which was formerly believed to be divine. The personal magic comes from within the caster, and the theologists believe that there is no outer force that responds to the prayers of its believers - all the power comes from strong will and self-determination.
Races
: Human, Dwarf, Blood Elf, Forsaken, Troll
Armor & Weapon Proficiency
: Cloth & Leather
;
Daggers, Fist Weapons, Wands, Swords, Maces, Staves
Talents
: The three trees available to theologists are
Holy Light
,
Shadow
, and
Nature
. Both
Holy Light
and
Nature
allow the caster to become a healer or DPS caster;
Shadow
permits only DPS.
Spell system
: Mana
Drake-born
Overview
: In ages long forgotten, the Dragonflights were charged with a heavy task - to protect the entire world. They were to watch over vital aspects of Azeroth and make sure no turmoil comes to the land. They were to be keepers, elevated above mortal affairs, watching, like invisible parents over their children. But Neltharion's corruption and Malygos' madness put an end to this. After the Nexus War, the remnants of the Great Dragonflights could stand aside no longer.
The Drake-born are a special breed of Red, Green, or Bronze dragons. They are fully grown dragons, who had given up most of their power to the leaders of their Dragonflights. Moreover, they have assumed bodies of members of the mortal races, and have gone to various races to be representatives of their own race. The Drake-born have lost their ability to shapeshift, choosing to be locked in their mortal bodies until their death. Their magical abilities have been diminished to the point where the can only imbue their own body with energies. As ambassadors, they keep their knowledge and wisdom, and are gifted with limited magic from all of the Dragonflights loyal to the Accord.
Races
: All
Armor & Weapon Proficiency
: Mail
;
Fist Weapons, Daggers, Swords, Staves, Two-handed Swords
Talents: Every Drake-born has access to talents from Ruby, Emerald, and Bronze talents. All three trees are melee-oriented. Ruby focuses on addition of fire damage to most attacks; Emerald has stronger emphasis on debuffing the enemy, crowd-controlling and using reflective damage; and Bronze improves the physical combat capabilities of the character.
Spell system
: Mana & Essences
Almost all spells cost mana. In addition, some spells require the Drake-born to use a certain Essence - Essence of the Red, Essence of the Green, or Essence of the Bronze. Each essence is similar to a Death Knight's Presences, with a few differences. Essences don't cost anything, can only be switched outside of combat, and drain all of the caster's mana after the switch is made.
That'll be it for now. I have a few more ideas, but I'd like to see these developed - either by me, soon, or by anyone else whenever. Formatting is kind of sucky right now, but I'll have something better when I actually sit down and write those guys fully. Until then, feedback is more than welcome and very appreciated!

It isnt very developed but here goes
Gambit:
A class that has decided to reject the use of manipulating magic outside of oneself and has turned inward to use the power of thought in order to achieve a greater control over magic and all things around oneself
Race: Gnome, Belf, Human, Orc
Talent trees: Will, Mind, Illusion
both mind and illusion are dps oriented and use debuffs and direct damage but also does a lot of support
Will allows the Gambit to heal others by manipulating the energy of one being healed, most or all spells are instant cast
Armor/weapons: Cloth for armor and staff, dagger wand, sword and fists
Spell system:
Energy
Exhaustion Bar: For every cast you receive a small amount of exhaustion and if you fill the exhaustion bar you receive the overcharged debuff which increases your cast time by 1 for each stack and stacks up to 10 stacks, one must wait for the debuff to run out in order to regain instant casts.

4 Healer trees, spread out between 4 classes
Actually, 5 healer trees over 4 classes. 1 druid + 1 pally + 2 priest + 1 shammy = 5.
Now, my OCD tendencies aside, I like the Drake-born class idea. It seems interesting. Another one I like is the chronomancer:

I suck so I can't replace the link with words >.<
Personally, I'd like to see a either a healer/caster or caster hero class. It would make the most sense that Blizz would do something like that (considering we have a melee DPS/tank hero class already). Maybe a necromancer.... fat chance though.

Chronomancer will fix your link.
Also, fixed the healers' count.

That's my idea for an "Exemplar" type class.

Class name: Rifleman

Armor&Weapon specs: Guns, Daggers, Fist Weapons,Maces,Leather, Mail, Plate.
Talent Specs: The three talent trees available to the Rifleman are:
Assault, a tanking spec, with attack boosts, armor buffs, and the like. Also,Killing Frenzy, a large 30sec attack power boost, but reduces armor.
Grenadier, a DPS spec. Attack speed boosts, movement speed increases, and armor debuffs.
Sniper, another DPS spec. Range buffs, stealth, and Armor Piercing Rounds, an armor debuff. Plus, the sniper can move 30% faster for 2 minutes, at level 20.
Spellcasting system: Mana
Starting weapon: Light Hunting Rifle
(All Rank 1)Class powers:
Incendiary Rounds, a fire spell causing 21-34 Fire damage, with a 10 second cooldown. Requires lv 10.
Muzzle Flash, a spell that Stuns enemies for 3.5 seconds. 45 sec cooldown. Requires lv 15.
Quick Reaction, a spell that increases chance to dodge by 15% for 20 minutes.
Can't think of any more.

My two ideas:
Chronomancer
- An agent of the Bronze Dragonflight that manipulates space and time.
Blademaster
- A fierce melee fighter that utilizes various weapons to kill anyone that stands in their way.
