Tank Questions - Defense Cap and the Like

My Death Knight is nearly 80. He is Unholy specced, and I'd like him to tank (I'm told Frost is better, but I tank very well and strongly prefer Unholy). Now, this is my first tanking 80. So, I have a few questions:
What is the Defense cap? Do I need to be hit capped as well? And will I be wanted in raids as Unholy equally to Frost?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can answer this.

All these questions and more answered in the stickies on this very forum, also on
www.wowwiki.com
and also any research on
www.google.com
with the keywords "Defense cap 80" or "DK tanking requirement".
Seriously, try to do some works by yourself first.

Bone shield has an internal cooldown of 3 seconds, so with 6 charges (glyphed) it will last a minimum of 18 seconds.

Sounds pretty good. Thanks for the Bone Shield info Afoxi, that was another question I had coming. Wildhorn, ever think I prefer Wowhead to those sites? Sheesh. >_>
Still unclear on the other glyphs I should get. I know Bone Shield and Death and Decay are pretty much must haves, but what should I aim for in that department?

When it comes to Unholy tanking glyphs Bone shield is more or less a given as you said, but DnD glyph is optional since you'll already have a wide arsenal of AoE threat.
I'd recommend:
Glyph of Scourge strike (a boost to single targets and since 3.1 this glyph gained alot of value)
And Glyph of Dark death vs Glyph of Unholy blight vs Glyph of DnD, depending on your preference and purpose.
I reckon one can almost compare them like this:
Dark death improves single target tps
DnD improves AoE tps mainly (and single target to a small extent)
Unholy Blight improves both your AoE and single target capabilities.

Frost i think is the better Off Tank spec, Unholy the better Main Tank spec. Reason being is your 36 point tanking abilities, bone shield and unbreakable armor.
UA makes you virtually immune to all attacks from everything that's not a boss. Like on Gothic the harvester. The way my raid does it is everyone stays on living side, and when the gates open i drop D&D, hit UA and then Deathchill/HB, and now i have aggro on the entire undead side and take no damage from any of them for 20 seconds. It works beautifully. If you tried the same with unholy and bone shield, you'd drop like a rock.
On the flip side, you take a strong hitting boss and the 20% reduction will be much more damage reduction than UA can possibly do. Plus with good avoidance against a single boss target you can have an uptime much longer than 20 seconds.
All that said, public perception from non DK's is that Frost is the tanking tree and people will look down on you if you try tanking with unholy. It happened to me all the time back when i was unholy tanking.

Personally, I'd pick DnD for the second slot, and one of the following for the last:
Ghoul (not so great, but i like it)
Disease - Makes life easier if you don't like bouncing diseases.
Unholy Blight - Extends UB. Fairly great.

You do have Death Grip as a fallback if taunt fails though :)
I can agree that glyph of SS is as nice or nicer than glyph of disease for single target tanking, but what about multi-target? You want to spread your diseases with pestilence anyway.. Wouldn't glyph of disease benefit you in more situations than glyph of scourge strike?
True, for a multi target situation Glyph of disease is better than SS.
However, the majority of multi target encounters often involves them dying either as the diseases fade on all targets or one by one (where the diseases fade on that target as they die). Making the situations where Glyph of disease would be useful in multi-taret tanking very restricted.
Not to mention that you might aswell be better off just popping Pestilence as your target dies, refreshing the duration of your diseases on all nearby targets.
For Unholy, I'd pick SS over GoD everyday
