My guild has been using the stack up and ignore the Feral Defender strategy which usually works fairly well except one thing... it's absolutely horrible for the hunters.
Our RL (priest) puts the raid target on himself and I'm almost never at range. If i try to back up a couple steps to shoot the Feral Defender gets pounce-happy and ppl get angry. So i usually end up throwing on Aspect of the Beast and hacking away with my leet melee abilities or just getting annoyed and doing nothing except firing a few shots when i get feared out to range.
So my question is... what's a better way to execute this strategy? Would putting the raid target on a hunter and having them stand just at the edge of range work better? Is there a completely different strategy that's more effective? I want some ideas to throw out next time we get to her.

I think they probably will listen as long as i present a good idea. They certainly should b/c our DPS has been a little (too) hunter-heavy lately. We lose a really significant chunk of DPS when the hunters are stuck in melee range.

My guild uses the stack option, whilst leaving the defender alone. We have no problems whatsoever, and we run with 3 hunters. Basically everyone stacks in front of the boss, ranged a little further behind melee and tanks. It works very well. Everyone is in range for AoE/Chain heals.
The defender gets pounce happy regardless, but this is easily healed through, meaning all dps can concentrate on downing the boss.
Taking a step or 2 back so that you are able to shoot, should not be a problem.
On a side note, we downed Mimiron last night :D
