I would honestly not use it. What I do instead is Quicksearching. Simply go into your bookmarks, create a new folder called Quicksearch and add your bookmarks in there. BUT!: when you create a bookmark in the Quicksearch folder you have more options, So, for wowhead, load up
www.wowhead.com and do a search, lets say for 'rat', which returns the URL '
http://www.wowhead.com/?search=rat', now take out the word 'rat' and you get '
http://www.wowhead.com/?search=', simply copy that text and paste it into the location section of the bookmark and chuck a %s at the end (giving you '
http://www.wowhead.com/?search=%s'), now give it a keyword (I use 'wowhead', but you can use 'wh') and give it a name which really doesn't matter.
So this gives you:
Name: whateveryouput i.e. WoWhead
Location:
http://www.wowhead.com/?search=%sKeyword: wowhead or wh or whateveryouput
Description: you can put a description in here but it really doesn't matter.
Ok, now for the cool part. Go to your address bar (btw ctrl+l takes you into the bar so you can type a new address right away) and type whatever you had in the keyword, then a space, then your search. So using 'rat' again you can type 'wowhead rat' and hit enter and it will search wowhead just like you put in a search, simple and easy. You can do this same thing for google, yahoo or pretty much anything else that has a search option, just follow the steps and you can be quicksearching in no time.
+1! I actually never used this before, but your simple and intuitive description gave me incentive to do so, and it's really nice. Thanks!

Sorry for the necro, but might aswell just add it here instead of making a whole new tread about it.
But the point is:
Firefox 3.6.13 installed after a fresh format c: --- check!
"Installing" the wowhead.com search plugin for firefox --- uncheck!
The message I get as a popup box is:
"This feature is only for Firefox 2+ and Internet Explorer 7+."
Although.. as mentioned above you can "add it yourself" by just being on the wowhead site and clicking "Add Wowhead" in the search bar on the top right: (
