Patch 3.2 goes live today. I am in the process of re-writing the mage pvp guide, and chances are it will have to go in a brand new thread (again) with the addition of the gems and ALL THE BLOODY CHANGES to engineering.
c) He may just Vanish. Your priority is to get him out - either AE, Frost Nova or CoC.
The only downside with this is that 99 times out of 100 (in my experience) when a rogue vanishes, he does it a good distance away from you, while you've got crip poison on. AE and CoC take up a lot of mana, and you don't want frost nova on cooldown, imo.
Only AE unless you know exactly where he is and can time it perfectly to hit him with the nova. If you've forced the rogue to vanish then chances are, he's used most of his other cooldowns and the last thing you want is to be without a snare on him when he shows up again.

With that aside, you first want to open up with a Polymorph onto the DK. If a pet exists, he must go. DK pets have a stun, which is too much of a pain to deal with. If you get stunned when next to a DK, then GG, because he just forced a Blink on you.
Once the pet is dead, treat the DK like you would a Warrior
You should write, that this isn't true for unholy DK's. They can instant ress their pet every 30 seconds, so killing it is pointless.

i'm not entirely sure i agree with that, because if a DK is using a global cooldown on rezzing his pet, then it's a global cooldown he's NOT using to turn you into a piece of arcane powder the hard way.
also, as they mentioned, the pet stuns without any action needed from the DK, and that's REALLY obnoxious.

I love having a place to ask questions about PvP =D
I keep hearing how much resilience doesn't matter to us mages cuz we die so fast anyway. So now I wonder if I should be running more PvE gear (that I dont have because I honor grinded for most of my gear) and nearly no PvP? What gear for AV and the new IoC? Not to mention WG =D
Im just curious because I have fun as a PvP mage and if gear with out resilience is better because of itemization I want to run with that =D and so will grind on some endgame.
Thanks in advance.
Currently, there are two big reasons why mages go PvE over PvP, even in PvP:
1) The big one is that our set gear and most of the accessories come with crit, a stat almost entirely useless. So to get haste, which we need, we have to go PvE gear. And since we need a lot of Haste, we go with A LOT of PvE gear
2) Resilience is a reduction stat to a class that's all about avoidance. So we just don't have too much of a use for it.
2.5) This isn't quite big enough to be a whole other point, but it should be said. Our current 4 piece PvP set bonus is a joke. Total. Joke.
HOWEVER, and this is important.
- Currently, in S7, the 4 piece PvP bonus is going to be 100% necessary. If it stays unchanged (1 second off Polymorph), we'll see mages back in PvP gear.
- With WG gear now having a large selection of haste and haste trinkets readily available, haste happy mages have options outside of PvE gear. You can easily reach 400+ haste (Probably higher, honestly) without going for PvE gear now.
- With the buff to resilience, it's not quite as crappy as it was (At least, not in theory).

i started leveling my mage alt like a month ago, he was level 26 when i came back to him. he just dinged 64 two days ago and i respecced him to arcane. with Glyphs of AB and AM.
so he's level 65 when a level 68 warrior targets me and charged me, i was drinking at that time so i kinda panicked and clicked POM and sheeped him (i know it sounds kinda noobish) then i sheeped him again cause he trinket out of it. Slow > 3 AB > Abarr later he was owned.
question is: i know it was only one on one fight and it's not really a standard for pvp, but will Arcane hold its own in BGs and Arenas?
i apologize for the text wall, but i don't really pvp much on my lock, and this owning people with arcane is really growing on me. i'm ashamed to say that i !@#$ing enjoyed it.
thanks all
EDIT: another reason for the wall of text is that it was very late and all my friends were asleep so i am dying to tell the story lol.... sorry

thanks ArcXain for explaining to me :)
but i am still missing stuff.
don't night elves have resist like Blood elves? that would make horde need same hit too. right?
also how much hit rating to get 4% (or 6%) and how much haste rating for 10-11%?
and i still need more info on gems. and when do i ignore the bonus? (i am guessing mostly crit) but what if it was resi. sta. or whatever else? when do i know i don't want it? and if I ignore them what should I get? (since it is my choice)
hope to get more info on gems soon :)
thanks again
unless i am much mistaken, night elves have a passive dodge, which is only good against melee. spells can't be dodged, they either hit, miss, are resisted (partial resists as well), or absorbed. they have nothing effective against spells
Gemming is a tricky business.. You really have to make a lot of judgement calls on what bonuses to socket for and what bonuses to ignore. It's all really based on your need. Until the new expansion comes out, we need all kinds of things. SP, spell pen, haste, int, crit, stam, and resil. That's a lot of damn things to gem for, and it's tricky because there is no one priority over others. Every pvp caster needs all of those things. (maybe stam a bit less than the others, but either way). There is no one priority that fits over others, because they're all important.
as for the actual number of hit you need for percentages, i'm not sure to be perfectly honest, but it's very easy to find out your percentage on your character sheet by mousing over the "hit rating" number to see what the % is... same goes for haste
Anyway.. i want to apologize for not having the 3.2 updates in yet. i've gone through a lot of stuff the last couple of weeks with school starting back and normalizing my sleep schedule, then my laptop (which I have the pvp guide on) crashed and i lost all the work i did for 3.2.. sigh.. anyway

Just a few things about Enhancement Shamans
One thing they're going to try to do is earth shock you to interrupt your spell casts
It is now called Wind Shear and it is off the GCD so every 6 seconds they can interrupt you
Spellsteal their earth/water/lighting shields
Small note here: Unless they are with a resto shaman they cannot have Earth Shield and they will not have Water Shield on unless they are hurting for mana. Also there is no cooldown on shields so as soon as you steal it they will just put it back up so your only causing them to burn a GCD. Not that its a bad idea, its just that I think you think its more devastating than it really is

You really should give this a read through, since a lot of this is sloppily re-edited and gives off the impression that you don't really know what you're talking about.

Not sure if this thread is being maintained but, what are your initial impressions of 4.0.1. pvp?
I realize that this will all be built around a lvl 85 char yet I think we can still say something useful.
My arcane mage hits hard, really hard. Stacking
AB
's without interruption produces big numbers, even with resilience. This is for bg's of course where survivability is a little less of an issue.
Anyone else wanna weigh in?
