For threat you socket Expertise and Hit (expertise being better than Hit due to Dodge and parry reduction and on par with hit more or less if you're a heavy spell damage frost tank).
When it comes to defensive sockets there's no golden rule here except reach 540 defense then socket avoidance/stamina as you see fit.

The one golden rule to follow is _never_ gem or enchant Parry rating. Stam and -- to a lesser degree -- Dodge Rating are better.

What about the 2% threat 10 parry enchant to gloves? Is that the exception to the rule?

Yes it's an exception I'd say.
And instead of calling it a golden rule I'd say that Dodge rating > Parry rating as an avoidance stat, and should be considered whenever socketing/gemming/gearing for avoidance.
Parry rating is by no means bad, it's just less favourable (and DK's tend to hit DR with it fairly fast due to Forceful Deflection) than dodge rating for avoidance.

No, Parry rating ramps up very quickly into horrible DRs. Very, very bad DRs, Check it out on tankspot.com.

I know :)
I was reffering to enchants/gear in general (specifically
Armsman
), and instead of saying that "parry is awful and should be avoided at all costs" and to keep that as a golden rule I was merely trying to point out that parry rating is inferior in terms of avoidance compared to Dodge (and defense aswell).
This should be kept in mind when gearing/enchanting/socketing, but I wouldn't go as far as saying that it's a golden rule written in stone etc etc etc.
In short, parry rating is not something that you should "go for", because it's the worst avoidance stat atm, but it's not worthless. (Thus justifying the use of the Armsman enchant).
Edit: But we all love the 2% extra threat offered by it anyways x)
