Im Dual specced. I almost always use my resto spec for PvP except Arathi Basin (Thuderstorm at the LM is too fun). But I love healing while in BGs. I can keep myself alive while my allies dps the opposing factions. Even though I use some of my Elemental gear for resto, I can still heal quite well.
Riptide crit + Chain heal crit = boss

in pvp, totem stomping macros and totem mechanics, the lowest effective hp pool of any class, and a regen mechanic that forces you to choose between having mana or not dying make shammies the least represented healer (let's not even talk about elemental and enh in pvp...)...on top of all the other issues with the class in pvp (gcd starvation, etc.), shammies pretty much eek by as resto in pvp and suck abysmally as any other spec.
In the last season more shaman got Gladiator than druids, and almost three times as many got Deadly Gladiator. In the US tournament they were also more represented than druids.
I'm not even struggling in Ulduar hard modes at the moment, so I'm curious where your "widely acknowledged" comment comes from.
