An Influx of 'Bad' Players, Not Necessarily

When I came back to WOW a while ago after a few months of off-time, I rolled a Draenie shaman; this was before the release of Wrath. Well, as things go, my shaman hit Lv80 and I decided to recreate the human warrior who was my first character to hit a level-cap (back when we were in Outland and seventy was max). Well, as I've gone through the past 29 levels I experienced an issue I'm sure many of you are familiar with: I can't find a group for any instances Pre-Crusade to save my life. Yes, I have buddies and guild-mates that would be more than willing to run me through whatever I like and that's no too bad because I already understand the mechanics of a warrior. With the exception of a few new abilities, I know my role in parties and how to tank. However, what about those people who are starting fresh or leveling a class they've never played before? How do they learn the roles of that class? This, my friends, is why there are so many seemingly bad players now. Because even if some one wanted to, it's almost impossible to get a group for anything that isn't at least in Hellfire Peninsula. I can't imagine having to solo all the way to Lv60 then get a group for Ramparts and all of a sudden be expected to know how to tank....
No, unfortunately, I don't have the answer to this. I wish I did.
Now you're probably going "So, what's the point of this post?" Well, I just want people to consider what I've said here the next time you're playing and your tank isn't so great or your healer isn't holding up as well as he could be. Perhaps it's not that they Ebay'ed the character or that they just don't care, maybe they've never had the opportunity to learn how to play their class. If you're on a low population server, this could be true all the way until some one enters Northrend. I play on Dragonmaw which is almost always listed at medium population and I rarely run into other players in Azeroth, save a few passing Lv80 players.
This isn't to excuse complete stupidity, nor does it justify not knowing your class by the time you're capable of running Drak'Tharon Keep but it does offer a very valid, very forgivable reason for not knowing much when your reach Hellfire.

This issue may be more or less depending on your server population.
I tanked Scarlet Monastery Cathedral and Mauradon on my druid while leveling this past month.
But even if nobody runs a single instance by 60... I don't think it's unreasonable to expect people to have *some* idea of what they're doing by 80. Especially in the DPS department. How do people manage to level successfully doing 500 dps? Mobs would take half a minute each!

Well, I didn't mean a complete lack of knowledge, just not up to par with what I remember tanks being by Lv40 or so if you had been tanking since Deadmines. Yeah, if by Lv60 you haven't figured out Taunt, that's just not acceptable. I suppose I just feel bad for people who are just getting in to WOW. I feel like the learning curve is actually much higher than it was. Just because by the time you actually encounter a group setting, you're expected to know what to do and with the Old World being completely forgotten by both Blizzard and most players, that's a hard thing to learn.

Ganit - I would have to say i agree with your post.
I see more spam for Runs through instances, and not groups enjoying the Fun and challenge.
I would say, now that we goto 80, it's easier for 1 person to run anyone through almost Any instance to Outlands. Even if they are not uber.
However, I would also point out that All people advise to new players (okay - not "ALL" but a lot of them) is to Rush to 80 then the Fun begins.
I find this incorrect. I have an 80 - and I have started Naxx - and it's a BLAST... but I also have a couple of toons that I tour the countryside with. do full quest lines. Try and get in Instances. Enjoy the game and all it has to offer.
Aside from uber gear, raids, and not worrying so much about getting ganked, 80 isn't the end all be all of playing wow - and i believe that too many people send the message that it is.

On my server it's almost impossible to get a group for anything lower than northrend, meaning people are levelling up with NEVER setting foot in an instance full stop! It makes it much harder for them to understand game mechanics and teamwork as well as their own class when they're thrown straight into Nexus or UK. Or even worse, I do know several people on my server who have achieved level 80 without an instance.
With the triple XP from RAF there is a massive influx of people also who have a multitude of classes at level 60 but have never actually played any of them properly - there is someone in my guild who has multiboxed RAF every single class 100% through instance boosting - he hasn't even trained skills until level 60. Now he's trying to group in outlands and to be honest he is dragging down the "newer" players - he may have one level 80, but he doesn't have a clue on how to play any of his level 60s and has the elitist complex of everything is "easy" too (yeah, ramparts IS easy when you've got a level 80 with you... now try it without), so I feel sorry for anyone who's main is 60-70 having to group with this sort of person.
I get requests for boosts all the time of people who have a level 80, or even two, and are now simply too lazy to level the "hard" way, ie. actually playing your class.
I pay monthly to experience content, not to rush through and miss everything and have an endgame character I don't know how to use, and it's a bit sad to see this seems to be an uncommon view these days.

That's interesting...
A while ago I started a troll shaman, cause I've always loved shamans but never played one (no idea why). I play on a relatively low populated roleplaying server, The Sha'tar (EU). My shammy's currently level 52, and roughly 2/3th of my levels (if not more) was obtained through running instances. In weekends, I could get two levels a day simply by running one or two low level instances, with people in the level range.
So servers that're higher populated have less people running pre-tbc instances?
Edit: I'm levelling as resto by the way, but that's beside the point. Pre-tbc instances are great fun, and in my opinion, those are more fun then being level 80 at all. Heroics? Done that, Naxx? After 2 times I've seen it. Achievements? Don't get me started. Levelling is what I personally like most.
I have leveled like 5 characters in the last half year to 40-60 (all specs basically) on a rather low populated server Bladefist and most of my levels also come from dungeons. Basiacally the only quests i do are dungeon quests and quests, that reward blue gear or something. And just to mention, on none of my chars i was in a leveling guild, though of course i did get a number of boosts.
And on my main, whom i got to 80 in the last couple of months i have ran all Vanilla and BC dungeons a load of times, the only exceptions being Scholo, Strat and LBRS as these instances are inferior to starter BC ones and its hard to find a group. Oh yeah, only did one wing of Dire maul, but thats basically for the same reason as Scholo.
Even BRD, which is my favourite instance inspite of the fact that it take 2,5-3 hours, i ran like 10 times in the 52-60 bracet finding groups with no problems.
