Why won't you guys answer me? How is it different from legalizing murder if murderers were out of control?
Edit: Like I said, drugs cause people to lose their minds and do stupid things, which could include murder.

The equivalent would be legalizing suidice, which should be legal. When you murder someone, you are damaging another individual but when you commit suicide, you have only committed a violent act upon yourself.
Out of curiosity, why is one any better than the other? In either case someone dies.

I'm not saying that government is incapable of creating the addiction, or that it should even be trusted. The government should not control the cocaine. That should be private industry under government regulations approved by voters.
The problem is that I have to choose between thugs and government oversight. While I don't trust government, it is at least slightly more transparant, controlable, and preferable to
this
.
I see the point you are driving at, but let's take a look at tobacco. We tax the heck out of those, but we don't find $%^& Cheney peddleing them on the corner of 4th and Harlem to 4 year olds to raise tax money.
The evil is, that government will tax everything it can. We need to fight that by lowering its ability to tax through voting, not making things illegal so that it can't tax them.

This is perhaps the most ironically timed post I've ever seen.
10/10.

*sigh* And I think that alcohol should be illegal, too.

The way I see it, suicide is when someone chooses to take their own life, whereas murder is when someone's life is taken again their will.

C. S. Lewis once said:
Much of the modern resistance to chastity comes from men's belief that they "own" their bodies—those vast and perilous estates, pulsating with the energy that made the worlds, in which they find themselves without their consent and from which they are ejected at the pleasure of Another!
I think the idea that someone OWNS their body might be a hard sell. But that's a different discussion, I believe.
Now I'm going to step out for a moment, I have a Sociology paper (ironically) to write. But the team is watching this thread closely and will notify me if anything gets out of hand. :)

Suicide doesn't effect anyone else? Wow, too many kids in this thread. It effects the family of those who commit the suicide and their friends emotionally.

Hm, if you said this before then I think I probably missed it. These posts are going so fast. Love and jealousy can also cause you to lose your mind and do stupid things, but who's there to defend that? Should love and jealousy be found as illegal?
Those are just weak emotions (by which I mean that emotions are weak in comparison), alcohol and drugs literally blind you cloud your mind, making you unable to control yourself.
Also, if you can't make alcohol illegal, then you are doing it wrong. Saudi Arabia prohibited alcohol a looooong time ago (Islam is to thank here).
