Torture?
The term is as twisted as they come. Someday soon, if the temperature in a jail cell falls below 77 degrees F, the ACLU will be screaming torture.
I love listening to a bunch of people who have never lived a day without food and dry clothes try to philosophise about what torture is. My shoes don't fit... waaa... torture. My don't have TV... torture. I have to sit in my jail cell... torture.
Anything below a leave it to beaver standard of living is considered torture and inhumane these days. Just more reasoning for the failing society we live in. No law holds sting. It is all full of hot air consequences.
I agree, criminals walk all over our society and take advantage of it, and there are no real consequences.

LoL? Society is declining? Not sure what you're talking about at all. You watch too much fox news, just because your party lost the election doesn't mean you need to qq.

I don't watch TV. I didn't vote for McCain. And further attempts to flame me will just end up getting you ignored.

What party? What election? And no, I don't watch Fox news.
Society is a walkover now, and I think if prisoners violate rights we should be allowed to violate theirs.
If I am coming across very harsh, this is a hugely emotive subject to talk about, because I know many people who have been sexually abused, and now half their abusers are walking the streets again. Would you feel safe? I certainly wouldn't...

Well at least make life last as long as life, and prison not as cosy, in Britain murderers get Sky TV and everything...Sort out the justice system tbh.
It angers you that prisioners get television? They physically and psychologically
need
ties into the outter world, other wise they become agresive and may go insane. If that were th case you cannot assure the safety of
anyone
who is in that prision, whether guard or inmate. The reason convicts have televisions is not for the sake of their comfort, but for their safety, the safety of other convicts, and the safety of anyone who works in that prision.
Also, if it comes to the point where it necessary, there is such a thing as solitary confinement, and it
can
be for life.
Seriously, I agree with Ivokk. Those britain prisoners need to see who wins britain's next top model or whats happening on family guy! If they don't they will surely experience psychological problems.
...
Prisoners don't deserve television or any luxuries. The point of being in prison is for them to be punished and exiled from the outside world.
I fully agree with MyTie. There should be more punishment and less privileges.
My mom was hit by a drunk driver on the way to work quite a few years ago. Her head went through the wheel, she was screwed up. She had to have brain surgery, shes now brain damaged, she had to have all her teeth removed, etc etc. My mom had to go through lots of rehabilitation. She had to learn to walk and talk again, learn basic things..
Shes scarred for life, the guy only got a 10 year sentence. He recently got out, my mom is still brain damaged and unknown of most of the things she used to know.
Also, I do have to fight for the other side a bit. Prison is not a walk in the park, I'm sure. But its not near as hard as it should be.
He didn't do anything malicious, he just made a mistake, and he had to give up 10 years of his life. Sounds pretty bad to me.

Rather than stick them in exile for 30 years, or tattoo a letter on their face, why not just stick with attempting to rehabilitate them? Is it not better to save a life than destroy one further?
A 40 year old man rapes a 5 year old boy.
I say tattoo his face and send him to harsh prison for life.
You suggest enroll him in a senstivity course.

A 40 year old man raping a 5 year old boy has something wrong with him mentally.
You're basically preaching eugenics, we should eliminate anyone who mentally deviates from the norm. Hello hitler.

Give him a second try. If he screws up again, then he's not going to learn; he's a repeat offender. A rehabilitation is not a sensitivity course, stop attempting to mock it and propose something logical.
So... the law should be that if a man rapes two kids he gets tattooed and goes to prison for life? Is that acceptible to you?

Wow, that's even worse than Laihendi thought your position would be. Unless you're being sarcastic?Any possibility of a tangible arguement, or just personal attacks?
@ASH - What gives government the right to tell us what is good for us. We should know what is best for us. The people.. not Congress.
Laihendi wouldn't consider that a personal attack... but honestly, legalizing cocaine and heroin isn't going to make them less prevalent. That's like saying "if you legalize drinking while driving then everyone who does it will kill themselves and then it won't be a problem anymore".

And that still leads to two innocent people scarred for life.
