Me thinks you're a little confused.
Many of its skills don't mesh with what I...think of when we think of a ranged physical DPS class
Sure, the mana thing is a little weird.
When you think of the traditional ranged DPS class, you probably think of rangers...They use cunning tactics, misdirection, some stealth, and efficiency to kill their targets. Rangers are a ranged class; they are marksmen. Hunters, however,
are most definitely not a ranger class
. I'm not saying it
should be
, either.
Blizzard never said Hunters were supposed to be a ranger class
.
Then you launch right into...
Rangers...are supposed to...
They are supposed to be swift ,agile, and accurate...
Look at any game that has a
ranger
class in it; this is, in a nutshell, exactly what a ranged physical DPS class is supposed to be.
Hunters wear chainmail armor;
rangers
do not.
Hunters use mana, and cast magical spells;
rangers
do not.
Why the hell does a class
that's supposed to, by design, be swift, accurate, and agile
wear chainmail?
WHOA! Why the rant at the beginning that we "most definitely not a ranger class. I'm not saying it should be, either. Blizzard never said Hunters were supposed to be a ranger class"?
Right now, one of the only reasons to roll a Hunter is the ability to choose your pet's name.
I should have stopped right there.

Retribution Paladins and Enhancement Shamans are both mana users and physical damage.
Also, GC once said that they see hunters as casters.

Um, that last comment was a blatant joke. It was supposed to be a little comic relief. ;)
And ironically smilies convey that :)

Mend Pet and Revive Pet are skills that would need Mana. Priest use mana right?
