Mind Blast / SW: D Bone Spikes on 10-man, since they only have 37.5k health. If someone could tell me how much health the spikes have in 25-man, I would appreciate it.
Improved VE is insanely useful for this fight. On 10-man, you do not need to move away from him if he charges you with Bonestorm. On 25-man, you don't need to if you have Imp. VE. I will show this mathematically:
10-man
6,000 maximum physical damage taken every 2 seconds = 3,000 DTPS
Shadowform = 0.85 damage reducer. Armour (Plus Inner Fire) = ~0.75 damage reducer.
3,000 * 0.85 * 0.75 (Assuming they are treated independently) = 1912.5 DTPS
VE heals you for 15-25% of your DPS. Assume you have 6,000 DPS (This is not remotely hard for standing-and-nuking):
6,000 DPS =
900
/
1,200
/
1,500
Self-HPS
Resulting in 1,012.5 / 712.5 / 412.5 DTPS. Given how he only stays at one location for roughly five seconds before charging a new person, even with 0/2 Improved you're only going to take 4-6k damage.
25-man
12,000 maximum physical damage taken every 2 seconds = 6,000 DTPS
Shadowform = 0.85 damage reducer. Armour (Plus Inner Fire) = ~0.75 damage reducer.
3,000 * 0.85 * 0.75 (Assuming they are treated independently) = 3,825 DTPS
VE heals you for 15-25% of your DPS. Assume you have 7,500 DPS (Inflated to a 25-man level):
7,500 DPS =
1,125
/
1,500
/
1,875
Self-HPS
Resulting in 2,600 / 2,325 / 1,950 DTPS
On 25-man, it is less viable to do this if you don't have Imp VE, since you will take 8-10k damage before he moves away, but it's still fine to do it if you have Imp VE.
And people say Imp VE isn't a DPS increase.
But please do avoid Coldflame.
Lady Deathwhisper
The best thing to do here is to focus on nuking adds whenever they're up, and keeping DoTs up on Deathwhisper, only focusing on her whenever there is nothing else that you can usefully spend your time attacking between add waves.
Pre-fade when you're about to enter phase 2 to ensure that you don't get aggro.
Deathbringer Saurfang
When he spawns Blood Beasts, pick
one
, VT and SW: P it, then Mind Flay it until it dies. Do not do anything else but Mind Flay it. The snare is so very valuable.

: Look at your
leggings
. 113 spellpower is a lot, isn't it? That's roughly how much you get from a
Flask
. You grow another pair of legs (
this guy
is very jealous of you). Use them wisely.

Very useful in all aspects, especially the PvE rotation bit, and most aspects of the PvP guide. Hadn't thought about Scream and Mass Dispell etc affetced by hit ;)
I do have one question though and it seems you haven't adressed it anywhere in the PvP guide section unless i'm being blind... Spell Penetration. What is a "good" amount to have? Is any at all necessary? should you gem to counter maximum resistance targets (MotW + Aura/Priest buff + racial). This will evidently be different in arena's to general battlegrounding as with specific aspects of spec etc. but a small section on it would be helpful, even if its a "don't worry about this at all..."
Oh and one other thing, i know stat weighting for pvp isnt as straightforward it is in PvE where you can produce a definitave list of values, but could you perhaps suggest some good starter figures for Spriests in particular? Is 20K Hp, 15K mana, 2K spl pow etc etc a "minimum" amount.
Other than those two minor things a great guide =)

This is a very common misconception. The racial has nothing to do with Spell Penetration. It increases the chance to be MISSED by a player, hence, you need hit, not Spell Pen., to counter it. Thus, the soft cap of 4% and the hard cap of 6% on hit for most people - soft means you still miss aginst the racial trait bonuses, hard means you cannot miss.
Yes, most players in higher ratings are gemming to counter as much Spell Resistance as they can afford. You need a lot of resistance, so you'll have to do your thing through gems and enchants.
This is about Arenas, where meeting deadlines is a concern. Don't bother for anything else.

As far as I am aware, 135 Spell penetration is the number to have in PvP. :)

Good point. I should add this in. Thanks Patty & Magnerz. I'll do my best to come up with a PvE Minimum list. I can't guarantee it will be all that accurate, but I'll do my damnedest.

On PvE while leveling, why is Improved shadowform not taken?
Do Shadow Priests just live with shields up? I am trying to understand what a leveling rotation would be, not an instance rotation. The two can be very different as leveling tends to mean you get hit while instances you should not be; except for aoe/etc

Missed that my first pass. Then it begs the question, why take it later?

I think what is the point of another praise on this page. Then i re-read it again and again and it's complete, comprehensive, in depth and easy to understand. What more could you ask for out of any guide? Thanks for all the info you are pro.
Well of course he is; Valandilv and Primar are probably the 2 most knowledgeable spriests that frequent the priestly wowhead forums.
