after making a decision to go combat/swords as a means of levelling fast and gd damage i read on forums that the top performing dps spec is an assasination build. Is assasinatiion the top performing dps spec ?.have i been missing out on pvp fun all this time trying to persist with combat/swords. will someone please tell me
what is the point of combat/swords.?

ok...i admit its good allround for lvling, like you say lots of good panic buttons like blade flurry etc
i'm sticking with combat (i started so i'll finish!) but is it worth switching to dagger/fist at lvl 65+ for better itemization?, seems to make sense to change if theres better weapons available.

I switched to dagger/fist once I hit 68 and was able to get the fist weapon from the "Last Rites" quest in borean tundra. I used the two matching fist weapons from UK and Nexus all that way throughout northrend. I'm 77 now and still using the MH fist, there just doesn't seem to be many viable alternatives. As for spec, I've used combat the whole way, but now that mobs are starting to hit me harder, I switched to mutilate so I can burst them down before they do much damage to me.
As far as mutilate spec having too much time, once you get specced deep enough, it becomes a little more interesting, with Hunger for Blood, Slice n Dice, Envenom, and all those good things to keep running.
Combat definitely has the multi mob advantage though, with mutilate having next to nothing for aoe capabilites.

Combat swords, fist/dagger, mace is the best raid dps for rogues.
Not quite true. They have the balance pretty good at the moment. If the boss is murderable (giants, humanoids and a few others) Muti wins but a couple of %.
If not combat wins by a couple of %. It's basically close enough that you should play whichever you can "work" easiest. If you find combats long cycles tedious, go Muti. If you find the reflex 1 minute stab at hunger for blood irritating go Combat.
Alternative, dual spec both and learn to play them both well, different bosses (in UIduar at least) SLIGHTLY favour one or the other.
I prefer combat as I know it well and played it through TBC. I CAN play mutilate to a decent standard but it's a little too easy for things to go wrong if my concentration slips. In combat I can adjust and get my cycle working again quicker.
Combat IS probably a little duller than Muti. Any flavour of it is fine tho. Go with whatever weapons you have available (currently rocking pre 3.1 BiS so calamitys/webbed death for me).

Sound advice. thnks for info on sword itemization at least i know what im working towards now. :) seems if its your first time up to 80 you can loose your way a bit around the higher lvls.
