Treatment for certain poisonings and it lowers blood pressure and increases blood flow. There are a bunch of others. In moderation, alcohol can in fact be good for you. I know, it's a crazy thought with all the anti drinking propaganda because of people who drink and drive.
A small amount of wine a day yes, other than that alcohol is still bad for you.

I know a guy that smokes pot and he doesn't want it legalized in the US. He reason?
He said that by legalizing pot, it would cause an influx of growers in the community, which would then cause the old, illegal growers to go out of business due to a loss of customers.
What this means in terms of smoking pot is simply this, as he said: Growing good pot is a skill. If everyone can grow it, then those that know how to grow it will sell less and force them to either sell the "good #$%^" for way more, or stop selling all together.
Which makes sense. When a market is small for a product, there tends to be a high level of quality to the product, but as the product increases in popularity, then the overall quality declines due to other manufacturers coming in and making things cheaper and faster.
Of course, if you know the guy that grows the good stuff, then you're okay. You can still get it. However, if the supply chain starts farther away from you, then the legalization could cause that chain to divert away from your area and go somewhere else.
I'm not saying he's right, only that there is a certain logic to it. Either way, I think it should legalized. The good stuff might be harder to find, but the overall benefit, to me, outshines having a weaker strain of pot in the community.

The biggest opposition to the legislation comes from the sellers. While it's illegal, they can sell it for a lot more, and they don't have to worry about corporations edging in on their profit.
Same thing as with Prohibition.

So we shouldnt legalize it because you know some guy that grows it illegally and would be worried about the people who were then allowed to grow it taking his "customers"? Thats more of a tough @#$% kind of thing for him instead of a good reason on why its bad.

I suspect the tobacco industry lobbyists are against it too seeing as it would detract from their business.
Thats why the tobacco companies need to express interest in getting their own hands in on it. If they are all in I guarantee the government is all in

Alternatively, it is subject to more competition and regulation and the poor quality product gets weeded (hahaha) out.
After all, most dealers will sell you rat poison and laundry detergent with a tiny bit of drug mixed in if they can manage it, the quality of illicit substances right now is hardly impressive.

For pot? For marijuana? Have you ever been around weed dealers? They aren't like that. From personal experience (and I've had more than I'd like to admit) dealing with dealers, they're nothing like that. They might skimp your sack if you're a tool or they're an ^&*!@#$, but they aren't going to poison you or kill you. Jesus. It's just pot.
Now, cocaine dealers? Whole other world.

I say they should legalize it, to better tax it and control it.
