Legalizing marijuana?

As long as the money isn't going to drug cartels, we'd be better off. A lot of criminal organizations are funded by revenue generated from drug trafficking, so I think if we redirected the money to the federal government then I think it would balance out the consequences legalizing marijuana would have.
Where this is a better argument, I am still largely against the idea.
That's exactly what I was saying! :(
Anyways, why are you so "largely against the idea"?

Which is why we should not let the cartels sell. Make sure the government itself, or a company (like Malboro), authorized by the government produces it. That way the money will not go to the cartels.
As for your personal experience, I am sorry, but, like I said, the problem wasn't pot, cigars or alcohol could have had the same effect.

Well it's up to the government, or ourselves, to make sure the money isn't going to a once-cartel or anywhere that would use it for the wrong things.
Make sure the government itself,I would fight this, tooth and nail, with every aspect of my being.
Why?

Because I do not, nor have I ever, trusted government. The larger it is, the less I do. But we're going to get afield of the initial topic. There are things that the government does correctly, but I believe this to be the exception instead of the rule. But once again, that's a topic for another thread.
You are right on this...The government does certain things very wrong, but I have to agree with sagramor on the topic...Other countries do it and are fine amsterdam has a better economy than we do by a lot,
and it's because they make so much money off of the weed.
That's a little bit sketchy. Just because something has wings doesn't mean it flies by flapping them.

Uuuuhm Amsterdam is just a city, I think you're looking for The Netherlands =p
And about 80% of the food we produce is meant for export, so alot of money in there as well.
Also, a packet of cigarettes only costs about €0,50 if you take away the taxes. With taxes, they cost ~€6,00. Same thing counts for alcohol (only less severe). The taxes on weed are nothing compared to those.
Most luxury items (CDs, DVDs, Electronics, etc.) have 19% tax over them. That also works =)

Legalizing Marijuana is the way to go. Think with me.
It'd basically shut down the traffic.
It bring income to the government.
Think of all police work that would be spared for more important things
Also, cigars are as bad for you as Marijuana.
Also, in before MyTie.
drugs are ok. just don't discuss free software

Overhaul
With Mexico near collapse and most of the drug cartel getting their profits from Marijuana sales, it would save Mexico legalizing it, saving far more lives than people think, and save the U.S. from MILLIONS in refugees, or do we want a drug cartel ruling our southern neighbor with citizens begging to come into the U.S. facing death? I would gladly make marijuana legal in such a trade off. Also hemp would then be legal, the only reason it is illegal is because it looks so much like marijuana. Hemp would help the U.S. economy enormously. The taxation and regulation of marijuana is also necessary, along with prostitution. Regulation makes them SAFER, or would you rather have alcohol illegal and have people drinking beer with antifreeze in it like they had during prohibition? I believe it is Denmark (some European country) has marijuana and prostitution legal, and they are fine (Nevada has prostitution legal). Also if a cop pulled over a person who smokes marijuana, he/she will be able to smell it on the marijuana user, and will be able then to have probable cause to search the vehicle, and any marijuana found would allow the officer to take that person in for testing, and a law like no open containers, except for marijuana would work for drivers, so cops have something to bring them in on.

My state "legalized" marijuana.
Can't carry more than a set amount of marijuana at a time.
