If you buy a Hebrew slave, he is to serve for only six years. Set him free in the seventh year, and he will owe you nothing for his freedom. If he was single when he became your slave and then married afterward, only he will go free in the seventh year. But if he was married before he became a slave, then his wife will be freed with him. If his master gave him a wife while he was a slave, and they had sons or daughters, then the man will be free in the seventh year, but his wife and children will still belong to his master. But the slave may plainly declare, 'I love my master, my wife, and my children. I would rather not go free.' If he does this, his master must present him before God. Then his master must take him to the door and publicly pierce his ear with an awl. After that, the slave will belong to his master forever. (Exodus 21:2-6 NLT)
One of the only societies that forced the slave to be offered freedom. Way ahead of thier time, Laihendi.

But acting without knowledge of the outcome is definitely not "evil itself".
Now this may be a poor example and might come back to bite me later, but scientists didn't know what the heck they were going to get when they started bombarding different elements with neutrons. Sure, they did come out with nuclear power from it (which could be used badly) - but that quest for knowledge definitely isn't evil, in my view.
Ok, but would you say curiosity is a quest for knowledge though, or simple instinct?
I'll have more on that line later, if someone else doesn't pick up on it.

Another one you ignored.
Ephesians 6:9
And, masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him.

If the bible is true in all ways, shapes, and forms as you say it is, then it's messages should be timeless. So either slavery is a custom that God approves of, or the bible is not true in all ways shapes and forms.

I wouldn't say it's instinct - as is evidenced by some people... in this forum.
Wow... ok... the
Jewish law
laid down by the people at that time, endorsed by God, at that time, may have been neccessaryIf you buy a
Hebrew
slave, he is to serve for only six years
Something is weird here...

Your logic is flawed. God made laws reigning slavery in, not helping it out. You take the verses out of context. Also, the Hebrew law was meant for that time and place, and was meant as a preparation device for Christ's coming and completeing of the law.

What do you mean completing of the law? Hebrews had to have slaves to prepare for the coming of Jesus?

Awful things happened in the Bible. People did terrible things. All these evil things were never the desire of God. He had to continue a relationship with us in our flaws. Slavery, obviously is one of those flaws. It's like argueing divorce. God obviously does not think divorce is a good deal, but due to human flaws, it happens.

Um.. no. There is no excuse for a book that you claim to be the absolute truth to endorse slavery.

Good thing for me it doesn't.

So you just ignore the parts of your absolute truth that you don't like.

No, I'm putting them in context with the rest of the verses...

I remember the days when Laihendi would argue with reason, and dignity.... wait a second... I don't remember that at all.

mytie... i would never push the button.
so much arguement over a book...
I would never push the button either. I have a family I love. If someone pushed the button and they died, I wouldn't mind someone also doing me in with a button.
