Over the previous months, I've read all the blue comments that I can find on the mana changes and have come to the opinion that Blizzard has decided that they must nerf mana to impose healing constraints in 3.1 and that is far more important to them than any fall out on mage DPS. I also conclude that they have similar sentiments about the effect of crit on raid wide DPS and are willing to let magi endure the unequal burden of the crit nerfs on two of our three formerly viable raid specs. We are getting hit twice because we share the healer mana model and are more crit dependent. This also means that to a degree more than other DPS classes, the changes require more work to mitigate which lowers the probability of this work being ready in 3.1.
The premise that Blizzard is unaware of the negative consequences to Magi of these changes is unsupportable. They are aware, they simply have put other issues at a higher priority. If we are lucky they won't have saddled us with changes that require another content patch to fix. Then hopefully either they will juggle the numbers before 3.1 goes live so that our situation is mitigated or we'll catch a patch in the first two weeks that prop things up. Unless Blizzard has substantial talent and mana regen deisgn changes in store for the mage class, the most we can hope for is a good enough band aid to keep us viable.

Now, I thought we had all agreed that giving a class utility would NOT compensate for low DPS. It's... Boring.
I do agree rogue DPS should be higher. Especially now that A) Rogue is not a retardedly OP PvP class. (Yes, I understand that just because a class is strong in PvP doesn't mean it should be penalized in PvE. But I'm a bitter person.) B) Rogues can't do anything BUT damage and some very minor raid buffs (all of which another class can do better), so it makes no sense that their damage is so low. C) Come on. They're rogues. All they get to do is deal damage. Hell, at least as mages there are some fights where we get to feel special (Think Gruul's and Council.) Rogues don't really get that....
@ Dant: Why would you want LB glyph to cause Ignite? God. That'd make Ignite munching retarded. To be fair, it's hardly an okay thing right now....

Maybe he meant hot streak procs? Because that would be
awesome!
We ALL hoped for that. But a blue post just shot that down. So.... We're still pretty out of luck.
@ Fred:
Sorry. I'm not up for making excuses for Blizzard's screwing of mages. I understand the reasons for it. I also think it's garbage. You don't screw an entire class because you don't want to put some effort into fixing mana for healers or crit values for DPS. And you most certainly don't screw the same class to fix two entirely different things.

Dant, you'd be completely right if not for one thing.
Rogue damage isn't okay. It's terrible. It's below most hybrids, much less pure classes.
They need damage AND utility.

Oh, god. I swear. If they bring back the "I can spam scorch spec and screw other mages on ignite" spec I'm going to lose my mind.
Well, it's definitely a DPS increase, no matter how you look at it. More damage from scorch, slightly more common HS procs, less need to cast it (On fights like patch, you won't notice a HUGE decrease to the number of times you cast it. But fights where the boss in coming in and out of combat with debuff wipes, this is going to drastically cut down on the number of scorches per fight).
Also, this may make fire PvP VERY appealing (free 9% crit to scorch on top of the other crit you have? Hell yes. And it'll more than make up for the Molten Armor nerf for PvP fire mages.
Not a huge change, but it's pretty nice.
As for the FFB... the wording is awfully vague. I can't tell if the damage is based on resistance, or if the resistance effects the type of damage. Anyone on the PTR know for sure?
