His body IS him. I am just a the effect of the environment on me physically and on the way I think, plus some minor features.
What are you replying to?

No. Emotions aren't just a chemical reaction. Son't they make you feel some way? Not just your body feel all warm and fuzzy inside, but don't you as a person feel anything? I'm sure right now you are feeling anger at me and your body feels that anger, but are not you as a person feeling something about taht anger? Or are you just such a perfect being you can control your emotions like a Vulcan?
No one said anything about being able to control emotions. Yes, everyone feels emotions... what would their purpose be if they weren't? But that doesn't change the fact that they are the result of chemicals in the brain. It's not "oh well some emotions are from this but some are from that". And no, Laihendi is not feeling anger, he's actually quite amused by all the ridiculous things said in this thread--primarily by you, to be honest.

Wow what are you talking about? Soul? Deeper emotions?
Are you just making stuff up now?

Except the brain isn't being controlled by anything, because it's purpose is to control the body.
That's like saying your computer isn't being controlled by anything because it's purpose is to run the OS.
And how can emotion possibly originate from there?
I would say all your thoughts come from the soul. Your eyes read what I am writing, and your brain processes what the eyes are seeing into words and then your soul read the words and thinks about them, then it controls the brain to tell the body to write out a reply.
That's what I am replying to.

I'm sorry ASHelmy, your comment isn't making any sense!
he's actually quite amused by all the ridiculous things said in this thread.
Such as most of your comments?
But anyways, what tells the brain to release those chemicals? Doesn't something control the brain?

Queggy why did you change the name of the thread? Religion can coexist with science, it's when you blatantly deny science that you just start sounding... silly.
You're hopeless.
Seriously, you're in high school. For your senior year... sign up for a chemistry class, a biology class, and maybe even a psychology class. You are in desperate need of education.
And no, none of Laihendi's comments have been ridiculous, they're accepted by the scientific community as factual. Feeling emotions from the "soul" and just "feeling" god exists is a bunch of mumbo jumbo that has no place in a serious conversation.
You basically are coming across as a child who's unwilling to accept that the world isn't the ideal fantasy place he always wanted it to be.

What I mean, queggy, is that the soul is not what you say it is. You as we know you, are merely the effect of the environment on you plus some minor physical features. and what tells the brain to release those chemicals is the stimulus it gets.

I agree, Religion can coexist with science. Unfortunately, some science can't coexist with religion. And has not this thread turned into a topic about religion and science?
In my opinion you're the one that seems hopeless, although obviously I hope I am wrong. I'll be praying for you.
Edit -

I have taken both a high school chemistry and a high school biology level class thank you very much. I go to a Christian school so I don't have to listen to science from a non-creationist view point.

Would that not suggest that we are not thinking living creatures, but merely plants?

Let me tinker with this a bit to show you how stupid it is.
And no, none of my comments have been ridiculous, they're accepted by the Christian community as factual. Feeling emotions from the soul and just feeling God exists is a bunch of real stuff that unfortunately has no place in most conversations these days.
You basically are coming across as a child who's unwilling to accept that the world isn't the ideal fantasy place he always wanted it to be.
Edit - I have to go to bed. I hope to continue this discussion tomorrow.

How would that suggest that? What I said is that
we
(our character that is) are a product of the environment.

I go to a Christian school
so I don't have to listen to science from a non-creationist view point.
That would explain it. How can you expect to get an unbiased and secular education in a school
based
on religion? Have you ever wondered why no public funded schools are allowed to be about one religion or another? Have you ever thought about how the vast majority of the world is receiving an entirely different education than you, and that you might be missing out on something, or evidently, a lot?
Going to a christian school doesn't make sense at all. Religion should play no role in the education of minors, because then they sculpt the beliefs of the youth to match their own, growing up not knowing or being exposed to anything else.

Plants don't have a brain. They are incapable of thought or feeling. It's got nothing to do with a "soul".

Yes and no. If you take two twins (closest thing I could find to same DNA, same brain etc etc) and give them the same exact conditions, they will be exact copies of each other. if you take those same twins and give them different conditions, they will be different.

Well, because in real life, you can't possibly give them the exact same conditions ( treatment, choices and a ton of other factors). And I respect that your religion and the fact that your views originate from it, however, you should never used religion in debates with people who do no believe in god ( I do btw).

um, why is it Science v Christianity. I see so many similiarities between the two its not funny.
Day-Age creationist FTW

I fail to see how you can see similarities between those two. ( ironic thing is, I see similarities between my religion and science)
