Pretty much what Elhonna said. It wasn't up until a few months ago that I discovered pre-sliced cheese wasn't the norm outside the US. To me, in comparison to deli cheese, it isn't too delicious.

I actually thought the same thing, like "shredded cheese that comes in a bag is considered
"real"
?"
I like most French cheeses and Swiss but give me a mature Double Gloucester any day.
Why wouldn't it be real? It's just pre-shredded for you...
It's real cheese, but it's not good cheese, is what they're saying, I think. There are like 3 grades:
Artifical cheese- playdough with artificial cheese flavor
Cheap Cheese- Meets FDA guidelines for dairy content to be called real cheese, but just barely and is mass produced with mediocre flavor
Good Cheese- The stuff they bring to the gourmet trade shows, that they sell in the gourmet section of the store, and that they have special shops for.
Shredded cheese is the second grade. What they are probably used to is the third grade.
What kind of cheese comes from milk I get out of my cow, after I season it and age it in my barn?

I'm surprised nobody pointed out that shredded cheddar cheese in the US is probably not looked on highly in other countries. Personally I love the fake plastic cheese as much as any other. I prefer it to some mature types (even edam). When I was younger I far preferred it to brie or camembert too.
Processed cheese is like a billion times better than most real cheeses because it's not all horrible and gross. I hate strong cheeses, so the plastic stuff can be pretty good. :p
I prefer real cheeses. Hm.

Ew. >.>
The only real cheese that I like a lot is goat's cheese, but I could only really eat that every now and again.

I find that to be the one that tastes a little strange. I like it though.

About how long does that take you to make? Just wondering because my girlfriend's family just bought a dairy cow to milk and they plan on making cheese and other dairy products from it.

I dunno why but the entire idea of making my own cheese or other milk products makes me sick. :P

Homemade is actually tastier.

It's just sticking it into a box or something.

Heh, her mother is an extremely good cook. They have their own farm in which they raise cows for beef, chickens for eggs and meat with both of them being feed only organic food. She grows all sorts of vegetables and herbs. She sells bread that she makes with her own yeast she also grows. And all of it tastes much better than going out and buying mass produced stuff.

How to make cheese:
1. Get milk. (Most use cow)
2. Get the
RIGHT
germs. (Bolded the most important word)
3. Add germs to milk.
4. Separate curds and whey. (this might take some time and if not done right it just goes bad)
5. Stuff curds into a box. (It is the whey for some types but most use the curds i think. And put it in a cool dark place. )
6. Wait. (Some only a few days others many years.)
7. You now have cheese
I guess I was "sort of" right.

Depends on the kind of cheese. Can be a few weeks or a few months, depending on what I want to make. Look for cheese directions and recipes off of google.
