(Fanboy happens to be A VERY OFFENSIVE slur in my culture, I just hate that word, I never call anyone that word, and thus don't want anyone calling me that either. Its sorta the equivalent of the "N-word" on venezuela)
This seems a bit extreme.

He might not mean fan in terms of being a fan of the game, MyTie. It might mean someone holding a fan, like someone who was fit to be a menial servant or something? I know there are slurs that are used in American English that, if you translated them directly wouldn't make much sense without context, even though they're pretty offensive. I think a few weeks ago I had to explain what the derivation of the word "wetback" was to Rank because he's heard it and didn't understand why that would be used to offend someone.

not really, its a cultural thing.
Fanboy over here is used as a slur asociated with pedophilia (Hence why you are a "fan of boys")
Some words or expressions are offensive in one culture, yet completely harmless in others. For example, over here in the west, the word "Otaku" is not offensive, its just a word for people who love anime or manga. Yet in japan, its a derogatory term and quite offensive.
To give yet another example, the dreaded "N-word" in english is considered one of the most volatile slurs against black people, yet over here in latin america, the N-word (In spanish it would be "Negrito") is actually an AFFECTIVE term. Yep, :P rather than being offensive, is actually a term of endearment for black people.
I know this (and other websites) are based on US culture in general, but I consider it polite that if someone informs you he or she finds a certain foreign term offensive, one should not use it on them. If there was a japanese user here in wowhead who requested not to be called otaku, out of politeness I'd respect his request, because even if in my culture that word is harmless, in his, its offensive.
Sadly, not many share my POV. =/

I see now. I thought being considered a fanboy of games was extreme offensive... which is what I was considering "extreme". In the context you are using it, then, yes, I understand. I think people shouldn't do things that offend you, if it is avoidable and reasonable. At the same time, I would encourage you to shrug off people who do use terms that offend you. On one hand, it is something that is easily shrugged off, and secondly, most people who use the term "fanboy" have a different understanding than you do (on this board anyway).

Of course, even here on the boards, most people use the fanboy term as an insult towards anyone who actually likes something they are &*!@#ing about at the moment.

At least one person has been IP banned for being overboard nasty and condescending to people who liked a game they didn't like, so hopefully Wowhead will avoid having too much of that nonsense. I can respect that people don't like a game, but if they feel the need to harass me for liking it then they need to leave.

lol.
Elhonna, you are such a fan of games that I don't like. You shouldn't do that! Only like stuff that I like. I have a history of liking quality stuff:
Stuff I like:
1) Thai food
2) Chocholate
3) Coffee
5) People
Stuff that I don't like:
1) Poop
2) Everything ever done by Ben Stiller
Edit: I just noticed that the "stuff I don't like list" is very redundant. How embarrassing.

I object...I've played coffee, and at level 25 (cups) your head is spinning and you get the shakes. That game sucks :P

Bees get a pass from me. I've been stung by one or two, but they give me honey and pollinate my garden, which gives me fruit. Wasps are deader than dead, but I wouldn't even mind owning a few beehives, and raising them.

/shrug We've had hornets/wasp around our house for years; they've never bothered us and keep the other insects down so we like them. Any of them who get inside just get put outside.
