how is elemental leveling with all elemental mobs running around? do u simply just skip all quests involving elementals since they are immune to nature or how do u do? arent there quite a few of them in northrend?
Use LB and CL on anything that's not immune to Nature. If it's an Earth/Wind elemental then drop searing/magma(if more than 1), alternate between flame shock and frost shock, and melee with flametongue weapon. Works just fine for me. :)

nice write up, however i think enhancement will be best until 20, where i can get water shield, until then ill just melee away like a clown :( wont take long so not a big issue...
p.s. ele from lvl1 - 20 would work?. im just thinking of the downtime with water is all,
I've done it. It's really not that bad. Both Enh and Ele will run through mana fast before they get water shield from lvl 1-20 and both will be forced to use auto attack melee when they oom. Remember that through talents, Lightning Bolt will cost less mana.
Thanks for the compliment :)

Thanks for your kind words.
Awesome guide, doing this right now. So does FT Totem stack with FT weapon imbue?
Yes they will stack.
Great guide, cheers for this, am currently levelling a Shammy, going a hell of a lot faster than my Prot Warr ever did.
Anyhoo, just one thing i'd suggest, stick your 1st 11 points into Enhancement, like:
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=hZ0xx0o
Reasoning behind this is that it makes the use of shocks viable nice and quickly, and really speeds up how quickly you burn through mobs. And its not as if the 5% intellect and crit chance goes amiss anyways.
Oh and has anyone got any tips on switching to resto at 80?
That's an interesting idea. Only problem is you're focusing 11 levels of talent points on spells that can only be cast once every 6 seconds. I found that Lightning Bolt was a strong enough spell to down anything in a few seconds. It's mana efficient too and the buffs you get for Lightning Bolt in your elemental tree just make it an even greater spell. I say don't waste time putting points in another tree until you get Thunder Storm.
Sorry I have no tips for you switching to resto at 80. Here's one suggestion for pve resto:
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=hZ0xxhZx0euVxoxkrhRt
My opinion on the resto talents:
Totemic Focus
vs
Imp Healing Wave
. Go with Healing Wave. It's your most mana efficient spell on single targets.
Ancestral Healing
will keep your tank alive during hard hitting boss encounters.
Imp Water Shield
will increase your mana regen. If you find you don't need this to keep your mana bar full then skip it.
Healing Way
is debatable. It's a filler talent because there's little need to cast Healing Wave more than once to get the job done. It's not bad but if there's more important talents to pick then skip it.
Ancestral Awakening
makes your critical heals 30% more effective. Not a bad talent at all since it helps with AoE healing.
Nature's Guardian
is a very strange talent. I can see it being really useful in pvp but in pve it's just.. strange. If a raid boss hits you, you're gonna die. 10% health regen is not going to save you. I guess it's helpful for those fights where everyone is taking AoE damage but honestly I think this talent is filler for pve. I mean seriously it's worth 5 talent points.
Healing Focus
makes sure you get that heal off asap. Not having this talent might cause your raid to wipe at times.
Imp Reincarnation
is a great talent imho. It's filler but still great. Not only is it a convenience to save time from a corpse run but it's also effective to pick yourself back up after dying against a raid boss.
edit: linked from talents for description i gave woops

I do, however, need to ask about how 3.1 will change things for you. Talent points get freed up, new talents come in all over the place, and this currently-level-44 shaman is confused how it affects my levelling.
I will update the guide once a stable thought on 3.1 has been established. This update will happen after the patch is released. I'd have to see how talents play out myself and see what other elemental shamans have to say about it.

Great Guide! Thanks for sharing :)
I played my Shaman until Level 62 in The Burning Crusade, but then lost interest as Wrath of the Lich King Arrived. It was Enhancement, which was quite fun and fast to go. But after leveling my main DPS Warrior to 80 and gathering Achievements like crazy, I got a bit bored of Melee DPS so decided to fire up my Shaman again and bumped to your guide on these forums. Which I must admit livened up my enjoyment quite much. Enjoying voltaging things like crazy now, long live Lightning Bolt! :)

Great guide. I have a lvl 32 shaman and always refer back to this guide whenever I have a question. I would like to ask if
Totem Of Wrath
is worth the talent and why not put a couple of points in
Elemental Reach
. Just wondering since ToW will be taking place of FT totem. I am totally new to shamans so if it is for obvious reasons please go easy on me. =) But awesome job on the guide.

Simple answer is totem of wrath increases your dps way more than FT totem would. There's no reason not to get an extra 6 yards reach for your lightning spells but you should definitely pick up Totem of Wrath as soon as you can. Remember that totems don't only affect you but your entire party/raid.
Talking about elemental reach, it's a pretty crummy talent for leveling purposes and would consider it filler. Not only is the range only noticeable if you're fighting a hunter with 41 yd range, any hostile npc isn't even going to reach you before you burn it down with LB. Range isn't an issue when leveling. Raiding/PvPing is a different story though.
That's my 2 cents :)

I've updated the leveling builds for both pve and pvp. Let me know what you think and if changes should be made.

After discussing with other shamans and testing things out myself, I've concluded that there's really nothing different about leveling as elemental in 3.1 other than a few pvp buffs. While the builds are different, I found that the rotations should stay the same. This guide is officially updated for 3.1.
I haven't received a lot of feedback from wowhead's users so if you want to be heard, this is the thread you post in. I always check it.
Many thanks to the people who have helped me in updating the guide.
