You then become a noob when you then assume you dont need to ask the hard ones.

Newb = new to the game, or just new to this area of the game (e.g. raiding, a certain class, etc).
Noob = Been around a while and wants other people to teach them EVERYTHING about how to play. Then fail to understand, follow and remember this advice.
Anything too difficult for them to do first time they give up on and revert tot their old way.
They are generally the ass of the group, with the lowest dps, highest number of wipes caused by them, enthralled by their own skill which they actually only possess in negative amounts, and refuse to tank or heal... because if they ever have they have failed... abysmally.

Newb/Newbie
= Someone who is new and still learning the ropes.
n00b/noob
= Someone who is stuck up, thinks they know what they are doing and refuses to learn from their mistakes.
So, by very definition, you can be both a newbie AND a n00b at the exact same time... You stop being a newbie when you can get through everything on your own, however chances are if you are a n00b you won't overcome that without personal reflection and inward change. Sounds ooey-gooey, but hey... Thats life.

Personally, I never been a newb in WoW. I had way too much experience from other MMO, so i was just learning the difference between previous MMO and WoW interface, game mechanic.
Imo, you stop being a newb the day you stop to ask in general chat: "Where is this" and "Where is that" because you started to use wowhead.com to find information by yourself.

In my opinions a couple factors make the difference
1) when one learns to play ones class.
2) when one proves competence > gear level.
3) when one can follow unwritten group rules that are common throughout every pug and raid in the entire game.
4) when one knows ones own limitations and mans up to them.

For me, I believe you are no longer a newb when you stop asking simple questions about your class, and start trying to find the answers to the non simple ones yourself. You stop asking "is this piece of gear good for a Rogue?", and instead ask "Does anyone know a website with good information for Rogues?".
Basically, you stop bothering all the Veteran players you know with questions that you should be able to find on your own without any difficulty.

You're one of those people who thinks the only thing worth doing in WoW is PVP. I hate these kind of people.

Gotten past level 20
Gotten past level 150 in a non-combat
Get 1g
Become Honored/Exhalted
Raid a major city
Now that i think, i havent passed any of this stuff :P
But if you have more than three of these youre good to go

know the meaning
and know
how to respond to
messages and commands like:
agro
aoe
taunt
mb
wait
afk
brb
+ the difrence between greed and need
+when the help messages at the loading screen when you log in are things you allready know and understand
and allso can fully agree the hunter in the next story is a noob and knows that nobody actualy cares about the next little story

and for a noob i tell you about a hunter that whas in a instance whit me who had
Twilight Cultist Robe
on him and he whas lvl 74 and said it whas his "real" chest item and that he didnt have anything better. allthou all of his other gear were season 4 pvp items lvl 70 end raids and 1 or 2 items from northrend.
+ he tried pulle mobs on me (the healer) using
Misdirection
when i said that the robe cant be his chest so just put back on your normal chest (luckily i noticed the Misdirection and removed it so he got agro(for my disapointment the tank took over the mobs before the hunter died))
+he spammed like hell when he got angry at me and allso left group and spammed trade and LFM channels every 5min that my char is a idiot and a ninja. just coz i needed on a leather chest that i wanted for my feral spec. and said to him no way thats your real chest
Few pointers
over 950 chest whit better stats that a lvl 74 hunter can use
has epic lvl 70 gears from raids and arena
my 52 lvls lower hunter (lvl 22) has atleast 5 times better chest
Blackened Defias Armor
spams in generals
tries to get the healer killed
attacked a wrong mob and died and said 3 times ress me during the fight and 1 more time when i had no mana
specced poorly
lowest dps (not counting healer)
didnt corpse run on full wipe just expected me to ress him allthou i and 2 others said all run when all of us had died
whined about 30min to the tank about me (after leaving the group)
ps. i just want to tell about few things about 1 raid guild
you have been invited to a raid guild coz you were awesome at what you do in a instance
people in the guild whine how vent (ventrilon) crashes down all the time
you are invited to a group for raid and asked to go to a specific vent server
you say you dont have it and dont wanna dl it coz its !@#$ and TS (team speak) is better
you are kicked from the guild coz you are required to dl vent to com to a raid

Once you understand the mechanics of your character well enough to tank/dps/heal an instance well, (as in hold aggro against everyone else, kill bosses before enrage timers and keeping the tank alive) as well as understanding the moves you should not do.
In PvP understand what your class has to do in order to successfully fight against each other class
Oh and specing decently (no pepper please!)
