A company that was competent would take whatever steps were necessary to prevent these sorts of serial failures. Do things break every now and then, sure. Do complex structures require regular maintenance to keep them running, of course. But just how many times does Blizzard have to consecutively screw the pooch before we, the customer, get to complain and demand better service?
Unfortunately, I think it is simply that Blizzard has to learn as they go. Sure they aren't the first MMORPG, but they are the largest MMORPG ever, and dealing with 11 million is much different than dealing with 100,000. Dealing with well over 30 servers is different than dealing with 9. I don't think Blizzard attempts to screw things up, but I think they miss things that would be easily caught if they weren't trying to maintenance 40 servers in the course of 3 hours. Maybe they need to hire more staff and have someone who exists only to catch bugs during server maintenance so that they don't slip through. If they already have such a person they need to fire him cause its apparent he sucks at his job and hire someone else.

No it's not that, it's the fact that Wotlk hits tomorrow, you apparently don't realize the amount of things that can go wrong on opening day. Blizz just wants things to go smoothly for the launch so that people don't complain like they did when BC came out.
Why do people remember TBC going badly? I remember it going rather well. I guess it might have went badly on some servers, but I remember being able to play that game with NO DOWN TIME. It even came out on a Tuesday and they didn't even do maintenance that day. Do people just assume TBC went poorly because most games screw up launching expansions and they have those memories? We haven't had issues like this since WoW originally released 4 years ago. At that time the servers were relatively unplayable with long queue lines, continuous lag, and disconnections. They gave everyone 2 weeks rest bonus and a weeks credit because for the month of April (after release) it seemed like you couldn't even play the game.
It didn't go that badly aside from the 3weeks of lag which really wasn't that bad, but people were complaining non stop about the smallest things and this just leads me to remember all the crap people were qqing about.

Do you sit there and QQ when the Cable goes out.
I pay over $100 a month for cable. You bet your ass I sit there and bitch about it. I call up the cable company and bitch to them about it. They credit my account for the outage. I pay for a service I better get the service.
Ohh im sure ur not happy but u are not demanding a refund.
I pay over $3 a day for cable, so yes I do demand a refund.
WE WERE CREDIT 3 DAYS for the DOWN TIME.
That is all well and good except we were credited that for recent downtime which they are now eating up this week. If the servers aren't up today or tommorow they better be giving another three day credit.

People defending Blizz crack me up. Maintaining game servers is hard? Life is hard, trying doesn't cut it, welcome to the grown up world. My job is as stressful as the rest, screw ups cost millions, literally, and cost your your job in a heartbeat. I am compensated well for it (my job) as is Blizz. It doesn't matter how hard you try, if you try, only success pays, welcome to the real world.

I'd just /quit cause I'm not getting paid for my work.
Blizzard employees are under contracts and most likely on salaries, so even if they are working around the clock they aren't actually getting paid for it. In fact, the more they have to work the less they make per hour, so it is in their best interest to fix things fast. I'm betting their techs didn't even get to sleep last night. I don't think you can sit there and say that Blizzard is purposely trying to increase downtime just to !@#$ off their players. To even think that makes you an idiot. Blizzard wants these servers to work just as much as we do because while we do other things they scour through hours of code in order to make things work again.

I agree that there are many problems that arise with a RPG online game. I am fine with there being a little downtime however this is where I have a problem...
1. Does not matter if you only pay a cent a day for gameplay you are still paying for a playable service and expect it to be playable. Many peopel are only able ot play at certain times because "most of us" have jobs and can only play at certain days, times and holidays, so when Blizzard messes everything up on those days it is very frustrating.
2. When the server is down why not estimate the time a little longer then say 2:00 pm and not have it online for hours after. This is just bad business.
3. There are many other issues that still plague the WOW world that have not been fixed and we pay for a game to be in top condition.
Blizzard makes a huge amount of money off the people playing the game and yes there are problems, however there have been many problems as of late and the WOTLK has not even been released. In my business when something is wrong we fix it make it right for the consumer I am sorry for those of you defending Blizzard but the consumer is usually right and if you buy a product that is not right or broken you expect a replacement. I just hope Blizzard gets all thier problems in line with Guildwars 2 coming out in the near future if Blizzard does not make things right for the consumer many of them will switch to the free RPG.
As for calling people names who are angry with Blizzard there is no reason for this I am sure we all feel the frustrations of the downtime, and hopefully Blizzard will make it right for the wow community.

Maybe a few hours, but over the last month this crap is retarded constant downtimes, lag and instances not working, is anyone forgetting that they actually get money to provide a service they arent providing?
