Just a friendly tip, as you seem pretty new to the forums, don't necro threads if possible. It is frowned upon. (As in, the thread had pretty much died because the last post was 7 months ago)
That said, when I played it at the age of 10, I had a Mainly white with a bit of black and blue deck...I think. I still have some collecter's cards I think. :')

chaosultimamage casts Revive on dead thread.
Funden plays counterspell.
I've been playing Magic again a lot lately. Anyone still play? Anyone play on MTGO?
Yes and no. I play the real game, with a blue shapeshifter deck and a black vampire deck. I get routinely owned though, as the friend that I play with the most goes to drafts and pays dozens of dollars a month on cards. It's ridiculous.

Aww :( I needs more people to play online with.
I also tend to play IRL more, but it's nice to get to play against new people every now and then.
I have a black vampire deck too, love it very much. I've been buying a fair amount of new cards lately, just catching up with some of the real crazy stuff in the new sets.
I'd love to play online, but I just don't have the money =/
Vampires are, tbh, my favorite mythical creatures, which is why I get annoyed at the vampire romance novels out nowadays. M:TG and the Dresden Files do vampires right, imo.
I also love my Vampire Nighthawk. 2/3 with Flying, Lifelink and Deathtouch for 1c2B mana. It's just awesome.

I don't know a whole lot about the game, but my wife and I have been discussing trying it out, just for us... anyone have any suggestions where we should start?

There's a new set, Innistrad, which is based on general gothic horror coming out in about a week. There should be what are called Intro Packs, which are pre-made decks from the set. They're a fantastic starting point.
Ooh, I want to get one of these.

My wife wants to get into it for the art. I want to get into it because I like strategy games. Is there a deck out there that has fantastic art, featuring women? I'm thinking angels, or fairies or something... she likes unicorns and butterflies too... and candy dewdrop mornings... and puppies.

The only real problem that I see in Magic is that no one plays for fun anymore. 99 out of 100 times, I end up playing against tournament decks, even in the casual rooms. It's very depressing.
This is why I haven't updated my deck. All my friends are casual, and it'd be a #$%^ move to upgrade my deck so I can kick their trash if they're the only people I play with. Generally, we all update our decks at around the same time. My wife wants to get into it for the art. I want to get into it because I like strategy games. White, definitely. Clerics and the like.
I myself rather enjoy the art direction that Black and Blue go. Jace is just awesome.

I played way back when Mirage released, I think that was like.. '96? I tried to start up again when the Time Spiral set came out, but it wasn't the same so my interest didn't last long (although I built a really fun deck with Dragonstorm -- I actually really liked the Storm mechanic). I also tried MTGO once at about that time, but it felt clunky so I quit pretty fast.
