You could also protect it with a Boros charm, in all technicality (as long as it isn't being exiled). It would also have the side effect of making your tokens indestructible that turn as well.
I think counterspells offer much more utility than Boros Charm ever would. Boros Charm is much more suited to aggro decks that actually care about their creatures getting wiped.

I'm not saying that a Boros charm is better than a counterspell, I'm just remarking that it technically makes all
permanents
indestructible, despite most thinking that it only does so for creatures. It can be quite useful in a pinch, especially for two mana.
Also, it's worth it just to watch the look on your opponent's face as they cast a Supreme Verdict.

I may have just broken the Pauper metagame. No not really, but I did brew a killer deck that is plowing through almost all of my matches.
2x Evolving Wilds
3x Terramorphic Expanse
4x Great Furnace
4x Ancient Den
4x Mountain
3x Plains
2x Phyrexian Walker
4x Myr Servitor
2x Roterothopter
2x Galvanic Blast
3x Goblin Bushwhacker
4x Kuldotha Rebirth
4x Lightning Bolt
4x Gather the Townsfolk
4x Raise the Alarm
4x Mogg War Marshal
4x Raid Bombardment
3x Ramosian Rally
It's so much fun, and I love that it's taking so many opponents by surprise.
Also I just played against someone named Azazel.

Those artifact lands would be so mean with
Mirrorworks
.
Also, I've decided the most evil combination I can think of is playing a Mirrorworks in a Selesnyan token deck with a
Wurmcoil Engine
or four. Make a copy of the Engine with Mirrorworks, then populate that token, then keep populating...
... and each time it dies, it spawns new tokens...

If you want tokens,
this
article talks about 2 decks with ways to get a lot of tokens. I like the
Sporemound
and
Life and Limb
deck more.
Probably because I like green more than black.

I have token generators. I was mostly just mentioning how mean it would be to run a token deck with Wurmcoil Engine tokens.

Slightly updated my mana base today. Down to 19 lands. Dropped 4 Ancient Dens and picked up 1 more Terramorphic Expanse, 2 more Plains, and 1 more Goblin Bushwhacker. The number of fetch lands is hard to get just right, but I think it's a lot smoother now with 6.

Put together a blue/black infect deck. Phyrexia and I have a constant love affair.

You have to play either GU or GB (more rare) Infect in Pauper. It's just not viable without a 1-drop creature, and Glistener Elf is the only one. If they don't have 8+ counters by turn three, you're in a position to be overrun by aggro decks, locked out by control decks, and be about to die to combo decks.
My current infect build is:
10x Forest
8x Island
2x Evolving Wilds
4x Glistener Elf
4x Blighted Agent
4x Ironclaw Myr
2x Blight Mamba
2x Rot Wolf
4x Rancor
4x Giant Growth
4x Vines of Vastwood
4x Mutagenic Growth
2x Distortion Strike
3x Apostle's Blessing
3x Predator's Strike
Current considerations include: Soaring Seacliff, Gitaxian Probe, and Lotus Petal

That was an impersonal "you" directed at your request for me to make a deck. Pauper's the only constructed format I play.
You have
One generally has to play either GU or GB (more rare) Infect in Pauper. It's just not viable without a 1-drop creature, and Glistener Elf is the only one. If they don't have 8+ counters by turn three, you're in a position to be overrun by aggro decks, locked out by control decks, and be about to die to combo decks.

Ah, I see. My bad.
It's funny, as my other Infect is GW.

Slivers seem like fun to play, but there is a lot to keep track of. Seems there is about only one person in my area that even plays a Sliver deck, there might be more.
In other news I went to FNM and didn't do all that great. But I expected it. I ended up losing all my matches, but I did win one game in my second round. Looking back I probably could have won that round if I had attacked with all my creatures instead of holding back. But I have learned a lot. Such as waiting to use my instant for combat phases as a counter to their creatures.
I ended up at 1-4 for the night, getting the bye in the last round. But I placed 18th out of 22 people so it wasn't all that bad. I now know my deck is good at mid-range and if it last long enough I can get some big creatures up, such as my
Woodborn Behemoth
. But I need to add in more low cost creatures.

Slivers only became relevant to standard when M14 released not that long ago, and even then the card pool isn't really deep enough to make that a very good archetype in standard on its own. However, it's always been a decent Pauper archetype, and now with the release of a third Sliver lord it's just insane.
But I have learned a lot. Such as waiting to use my instant for combat phases as a counter to their creatures.
Yep that often takes a while for a lot of new players to fully understand. Cards should almost always be played at the last possible moment, so as not to give your opponent any more information than you have to. This includes pump spells, burn spells, activated abilities on permanents, and so on.
And on the flip side, you need to know what other instants are in the format that your opponent might be playing. If you're attacking with a 2/2 into a guy with 1 red mana open and cards in had, you should not play a Giant Growth on your creature, knowing that he can respond with a burn spell and 2-for-1 you. Instead, hold the Giant Growth and use it when he is tapped out or in response to one of his burn spells.
Stuff like that just takes practice and experience.

Also if you're playing someone that has blue mana untapped then be prepared for anything.

Crap, I feel left out without a guild symbol. I guess I need to pick one.
After a couple of hours playtesting and tweaking my GW slivers deck, I'm ready to run it through a tournament. Hopefully I don't see many red burn decks. They've been my hardest match-up so far.

Nice. I've been pulling some good sliver cards, so I may eventually make one.
Also, funny story, I just finished tweaking my Selesnyen deck. The token mechanic is a lot of fun. It's easily one of my favorites now.
I wish Golgari were good, though. They interest me the most, flavor wise, but they have the most terrible mechanics of the block.

Scavenge is quite a powerful effect in limited. It gives you the benefits of a spell, without the card disadvantage.

Eh, I mostly just play casual. It has a way too high mana cost to be effective, imo.
