What was the mana burn rule, then? I'm intrigued.
Any mana that was left unspent in your pool did damage to you 1 for 1.
I beat him, because his habit of tapping more mana than he needed too left him exposed. Easy win. Bad rules make for bad habits.
That doesn't even make sense to do, mana burn or not.

If I plainscycle Eternal Dragon, can I count Hallowed Fountain as a "plains card"?

Always look at the card type, right below the picture on the left. Hallowed Fountain is "Land - Plains Island", so yes it is a Plains. What is is not is a "Basic Land", so as long the card does not specifcy that you get a basic land, Hallowed Fountain can be gotten.

What does standard legal mean? My friend keeps mentioning it as if I should know.

Standard is the latest two blocks in the rotation plus the latest core set. It's the format for most mtg tournament play.

Ohh thanks, iirc blocks are card 'releases' like New Phyrexia and Mirrodin right? Why do they change it though?

Those are actually sets. A block is a group of usually three sets that share a common theme. Scars of Mirrodin, Mirrodin Besieged, and New Phyrexia are the three sets that make of the Scars of Mirrodin block (the block is usually named for the first set in the block). So right now standard is made up of the Scars of Mirrodin Block, the Innistrad Block (which is only partially released), and Magic 2012.
They rotate for two reasons: money and diversity.

So I was wondering if I should buy the Ajani vs Bolas duel decks. I'll be getting two planeswalkers in them guaranteed.
My friends say that they are very fun to play against the opposing deck with, but crap against any deck other than it's duel deck enemy.
So just wanted to get another opinion on it before I decide what else to buy.

List of cards in ajani bolas decks.

The decks are fun. With only one of almost all the cards, there are so many more different cards in the deck that it's a lot crazier.
There are two things to note. As your friend said, the decks will not really be competitive outside the duel deck circle, and also none of the cards in the decks are for the most part not standard or extended legal, so you won't be able to take these decks to your local FNM or standard tournament. If those to things don't worry you, then by all means go for it.

Aww crud that explains why it's so cheap.
Thanks Jubbi I don't know what I'd do without you :)

Turn 5, I had one Birds of Paradise out and two Parallel Lives. I then cast Cackling Counterpart twice in a row on my Birds of Paradise. At the end of the turn I had 9 Birds of Paradise and 5 lands in play. Next turn I play another land and play White Sun's Zenith for 15 and put 48 2/2 Cat tokens into play :D
That was fun

For effects like Sun Titan's ability, land cards are considered to have a converted mana cost of 0, so you can bring them into play, you had it right.

Man... I wish I lived in more highly populated area... Grew up/live in sorta rural KY and only ever played MTG with my brother with the decks/packs we got when went out to the mall. No one else I knew played but me and him were really into it (1995 >,< damn I'm old) I just discovered all my old cards/decks last night in my parent's closet, and then I see this posted in wowhead.
So my question to you MTG officiandos
~
how would be the best way for me to get back into playing/enjoying the game when there are no real local events or organizations near me in Northern KY.
I had the old Win95 MTG game, but I can't find the CD now...
