Why do you tank?

I tank because...
Well many reasons. I have a Hunter (DPS), Shaman (Healer), and a Prot Pally (Tank).
I found I hated being DPS, since I could never count on the tank or the healer.
And I can't play with my friends and be my shaman since we'll, up till recently, we were ALL healers.
So tank.
Beyond that I've always been the defence stratagy type. In Starcraft I was the guy that built the Defencive base you couldn't get in and would waste your resources trying. Then I'd send in a quick flank into your now army-less and defence lacking base.
And on team fights, the friend I always played with we synergized perfectly. He beleive the best defence was a good offence. I was the best offence is a good defence. So I made the base and he ripped the other teams apart (as most teams would be 2 people trying to go offence).
In Ultima I was the shmuck always running around with a sheild (when we all know there were better options then a katana+sheild...)
In Shadowbane, I played a Minotaur warrior... was the guilds MT even (that was always fun).
In GW... War\monk.
Any game that's got a defencive stance (no pun intended) I go for it. Infact when I got my shaman into the 60 area... lol I played a shaman tank (back when it was possible.)
I swear I'm not into masacism!

I am levelling a paladin just for tanking. I have a 70 hunter and shaman (resto), so only a tank is missing. I also have a druid alt, but my server is so full of druids it's like a zoo in Shattrath. And since 90% of the paladins are indeed holy, I'm going to go where the other 10% has gone, protection. I just made it to level 40, and it's at the same time disturbing and awesome when you prove to a bunch of ignorant fools that paladins can indeed tank.

Creepy.
You're my long lost twin. I have, a 70 hunter, 70 resto shaman, a 70 prot pally and working on a druid.
YOUR STALKING ME!
(I'd say I was you, but I already have the 70 pally so i'm ahead of you!)
Also, same on my server, it's a freaking petting zoo in shat. Remember the days when druids used to be the rare class?

I have tanked a bit with a 70 pally on the previous PTR, just to know what to expect. So, I think we are on par :P.

No big surprise as I just registered 2 hours ago :P. Anyway, back to tanking. Yesterday I tanked an SM cathedral run, it's kind of a pain pulling mobs from the cathedral itself. After a while I just let the rogue do it :P.
That seems to be my paladin's biggest problem, pulling a pack without pulling another. Avenger's Shield will take of that, hopefully :P.

Squeezie is right, if you need tips on paladin tanking though, i highly suggest you drop by the paladin forums and leave a post with your armory profile and any problems you have encountered.
as for pulling discreetly, I suggest purchasing a couple EZ throw dynamites, came really handy for me :D

I raided as a holy priest from MC -> Kel'thuzad.
I raided as a fire mage from Gruul -> Illidan.
I recently decided to start tanking (offtanking is more like it, really) on my prot paladin.
Yeah.. I'm not going back. I like using more than 3 buttons. I like being forced to optimize situational awareness.
Most of all, I like controlling the repair bills of people who annoy the living bejesus out of me.

II like using more than 3 buttons.
Seal & judgement macro, Holy shield, Avenger's shield, Consecration, Avenging wrath
2 opening buttons and 3 buttons :D

If your healer is ready, and you trust them...
My favorite way to pull is the "Leeroy" way.
(although, I have found there isn't a limit as to how many a pally can tank, there is however a limit to how much the healer can heal me thru it..., made the mistake once of pulling ALL the mobs in BM prior to the event. I don't know how many it was, but I was dead sooo freakin fast, though it was a guild run and they told me to do it, so it was funny)
