This is what happened to an annoying lowbie (who also happens to be a co-worker) in our guild once. I nearly burst a gut laughing when I read this and was saddened that I wasn't there to partake....
"Shadowmoon valley....
4 70's and 1 66 are standing in a field, preparing to kill 66-69 mobs for a chain quest.
Individually 3 out of the 5 receive a whisper from a single character to solicit money and information from them.
Discussing the situation the group decides a single course of action.
Sitting in the middle of 9 mobs the 70 warlock starts his spell... casting it bright and powerful for all to see. The group surrounds the portal, all helping with this summoning, concentrating their power into the source. The power field dissipates and we all take a few steps back, waiting in anticipation the arrival of 1 more body. We wait a little longer.... wondering if the spell worked... and then a faint glimpse of a body appears. The group has succeeded, he is now standing upon the same ground that the all are - hurtled through time and space in a most amazing feat.
As he fully materializes and is able to start to move around there is movement all around him. The surrounding 9 mobs race at him from all angles with such speed it is a blur to the groups eyes. With a combined swing of 9 swords their new comrade hits the ground hard, dead, in a pile of shredded clothes....
As belly laughs burst out of the calm plains, the group falling over each other laughing so hard, tears streaming down their faces, 2 words are heard from the tortured dead body of that former level 7 priest named *********..... (name hidden for obvious reasons)
"Got ganked..." "
He died so quickly he thought he was ganked!
LOL...that hysterical. Wait wait..have to chastise myself..I wasn't suppose to laugh at that..oh..wtf..that was a good one. Besides you said co-worker=adult.. means he should have known better. I definitely should have rolled another toon..warriors have no fun. :(

i tell them how unbelievably pathetic it is to pay real life money to beg for fake money in an online game.
if they whisper me i laugh in their digital face and say 'NO' under no circumstances do i give anyone anything, not even silver for 'training weapons'. they can go kill 10 things and get the silver on their own.

It's also a matter of ignorance from a lot of the noobs..they just haven't playing long enough yet to understand the time you have put in to earn your money. Let's face it..it only takes a couple of day to level up to 15 or 20 if you put in the time. Two or or three days is not a lot of time to process the ins and outs of WoW protocol and the money earned from those early kills and quest don't really add up to much. So..now we have this poor sap of a noob go into the auction house and browses the blue and green items he desires so much, but doesn't have the money for..."he begs".
Everyone deals with this in a different way..my approach is to just give them a coin and a lesson. "your lucky you ran into me.but you won't make many friends if you continue to beg..learn to earn..if you have any questions.. ask me" Just my approach.
Just to add this little tidbit..how many of us have an alternate the we have fed gold and items from our main. Ever hear the complaint of cheater against your twinked alt..I have.
Why not play fair and make your alt earn again like you did your main..because who the heck wants to go through that again. My point is we all beef when something goes against the grain of our belief..but when its our action being questioned then it becomes a whole different argument. Food for thought.

Hmmm -
First if the player is truly new to the game I doubt he/she will hit level 20 in two or three days unless you mean days /played. But your general point is accurate the amount of time required to start getting green drops and enough silver is small enough that no one needs to beg.
Most of my alts are the only character I have on that server. However I do have a couple of alts on the servers where I have a main. They are either bank alts, or are alts that were started and power leveled, with help from the entire guild, to fill a guild need for a tank or healer. Cheating? Perhaps, but it was more important to have a back up for the raid slot than it was to level "fairly". Also I think that you are a bit off topic because those alts never had to beg. It was more like they signed an employment contract. "We'll power level this character and you agree to fill this raid slot on demand even if your main loses raid opportunities". Also those alts don't need great gear from the AH or gold because they have so much support that what ever gear drops is sufficient until they need to gear for tanking as they approach 70. This gear drops in the instances that they are being power leveled through and so even then they don't need monetary or gear donations.

I had member join my guild at level1..Hit level 10 by the end of the day. was level 16 by the time I logged off the second day. Yeah.... he was on all day..if your determined enough it's doable.
