Nustal the Fateless
Borean Tundra
Nustal, without hesitation, removed the head from a nearby ghoul. His hand penetrated the fleshy covering, tearing the mostly pristine skull free and offering it to Granda. "Your wish is my command." He smiled.

Borean Tundra
The blue-haired woman surged forward, smashing the giant sea-men aside as she charged the Valkyr.

"Thank you," Granda said and took the skull. She gave it a shake, sending what rotted remains festered in the skull to the stone floor, then turned it over and shoved the ball of arcane magic inside. Immediately the sockets were filled with a powerful blue glow that seemed to flicker, fading and strengthening intermittently.

Balrick Brighthammer
Location:
Borean Tundra
Balrick's eyes caught the flash of blue among the monochrome shade of death which surged along the beach. His breath caught and his eyes blazed. "Survivor," he gasped. A thought and Moriv clopped up behind him. Balrick grabbed the reins and hauled himself into the saddle. "Forward!" he roared. The dreadsteed whinnied, pawing the air as it reared back, then struck the ground hard, charging into the ranks of the ghouls with lashing hooves and hacking blades.

Evlyn Linder
Dragonblight
Linder raised a gloved hand to shield her eyes from the light. She hardly noticed the giblets impacting her; it was as if she was a pond, they sending ripples across the surface but never disturbing the deeps. The hail subsided, and she felt the protective spell wash away as she ran to check on the valiant knight.

Character:
Miter Brighthammer, Sybil Duir
Location:
Dragonblight
The Light which basked from the ravine filled Sybil with strength. Righteous fury strengthened her sword arm annd swept the head from a ghoul. Anger, hatred at the twisted mockeries of life which sought to bring her down made her snarl and swear and throw herself against them. But even with her newfound strength, there were too many. Weakened by the glow, attacked by the knight, the ghouls nervertheless piled onto her in a mass, seeking to drag her down into the choking snow where no amount of strength could save her from them.

Dragonblight
Evlyn lashed out with her staff, blasting a ghoul from the pile...but it was to no avail, she realized. They were simply too many.
In a burst of inspiration she tried to reach out for Sybil's mind to use the pain suppression technique they had practiced at New Hearthglen. Concentrating hard enough was difficult, even in the quieter confines of the Scarlet chapel, and out here it felt nearly hopeless. She had to close her eyes - that was the hardest part - and remind herself that Sybil might otherwise die a gruesome death. Suddenly, she felt a connection, and poured her strength and what courage she could muster through to the other woman.

Sybil's muffled roar sounded beneath the pile. Her sword burst from the back of a ghoul and, howling, the woman tore free of the pile. Her armour hung in pieces, a shoudler pad ripped from her, her breastplate riddled with claw marks. Her cape hung in tatters and her helmet had been twisted off. One glove was missing, the same arm that once bore her shield, but with a shout she struck out and shattered a ghoul's rotted skull with her bare fist.
Now the tide had turned. She flet no pain, the strength of the light empowering her arms and every blow. The ghouls did not retreat, perhaps could not, but no more could they bring down the Scarlet.
Finally, the last ghoul fell, her sword through its mouth and out the back of its head like the undead had tried to eat the blade. As she slammed it into the ground, Sybil kneeled, panting, only held up by her desperate and unrelenting grip on her sword hilt.

"Out of my way!" Balrick roared as he rode forward. His stolen weapons rose and fell. A butcher's blows for a job of the like, for all around him swarmed the dead. Moriv surged forward, lashing hooves and biting yellowed death, floundering against the sea of dead.
A ghoul grabbed his arm, gnawing at Balrick's armour. The death knights cursed and cleaved its skull in two, only for the weapon to stick, and as the ghoul fell it tore the axe from his grasp.
"Wretched thing! C'mere!" He grabbed one of the undead by the arm and tore free the limb. Blue fire crawled along it, and at the end formed a ball of ice. With this makeshift flail Balrick resumed hammering through the undead ranks, his eyes fixed on the heavenly figure which raised them, and his gaze promised death.

"Well that's not fair at all." Tharvulius stated as ghouls were raised from the fallen. He grabbed 5 more of the vials on his vest. Contained within was a chunk of metal and water, once more separated. "I fear I neglected to bring more ingredients seeing as I wasn't expecting this."
He tossed the vials one after another at a ghoul, a small explosion created on impact. Each vial found it's mark and the ghoul was left as little more than a few chunks of flesh. "And stay down!"
Painfully short on vials and with no spells he could cast that would make a difference, Tharvulius once more drew his sword. HE climbed atop his pony and spurred it onward into the fray.

Evlyn Linder
Dragonblight
Linder stood with mouth agape for a moment. Then, when she regained her senses, she rushed forward to the crusader. "That was amazing", she said, voice hoarse due to her dry mouth, and knelt down next to Sybil to check on her.

Sybil did not answer at once. Her body heaved as she sucked in great gulps of air. The pillar of light from the ravine slowly faded, returning the snowy battlefield to its cold blue glow. As it went so too did the strength which formerly empowered her, and once more Sybil felt the ache of her wounds. Where claws had struck her they burned, where bruises of blows had come they ached, and her muscles shook as if from an ague.

"Inquisitor!" Linder called out for aid. "You'll be all right", she tried to soothe the crusader while thinking what to do. She prayed to the Light for guidance, but it did not answer.

Snow crunched from the bottom of the hill. Footsteps approached, and after a moment, Miter revealed himself. Immaculate, untouched, he brushed some snow from his shoulderpad and paused at the top of the hill, surveying the field of shattered corpses which composed the once battlefield.

Miter strode forward towards the kneeling crusader. He bent beside her and touched her shoulder, Sybil flinching as his gloved hand touched her wound. Miter's face was schooled and blank as he pulled backwards and folded his hands into his sleeves.
"Sybil."
She looked up, shaky.
"You are dying. Not even the Light can save you."
She hesitated, then swallowed thickly. "S-sir. I'm sorry..."
Miter shook his head. "Do not apologize. You did all I could ask, and more. You are an effective bodyguard and a loyal soldier of the Crusade." He reached into his robes and drew his blade. It was a curious weapon. Its weight was in the blade, resembling the fin of a shark. It had no guard, but the pommel and handle seemed fitted oddly to the bottom. All along the blade were dark markings molded to the steel itself through some process during its forging.

- "An interesting technique. A mobile arcane tracker?", Karan commented, curiously observing the skull and making a mental note of raiding a village for some more ghouls.

Miter knelt before Sybil and put her head on his shoulder. The crusader took a shuddering breath, her face pale in the light of his pauldrons. She jolted, then her eyes closed and she let out a long, slow sigh.
Miter stood and Sybil's body toppled off onto her scarlet cloak as if into a pool of blood. Dispassionately, Miter produced a rag and began to clean his blade.

"Yes," Granda said as she turned the skull about in her palm, angling it forward. The bones gave a faint rattle, the jaw falling open with a sound like a gasp. From the eyes, a pulse of light raced forward, cutting through the air and flashing down the tunnel like a star. The necromancer nodded. "It has not gone far."

Another gesture made the remaning ghouls to change their direction towards the tunnel indicated by the skull. Th acolyte followed the ghouls, holding up his orb of light.
