you can start doing dungeons through the Looking for Dungeon Tool when you reach level 15.
before that you can also do dungeons if you set up a group yourself but that probally takes too long and your better of leveling too 15.
i would suggest queue'ing as a damage dealer first since your probaly lack experience for tank or healer. although its pretty easy at those low levels if you dnt know what to do it can turn a dungeon in a slaughter fest.
so dnt do that yet and pay attention too group members who do preform those tasks incase you wanna try it yourself later on.

as for raids, the lowest level raids in-game are lvl 60. however these are most often skipped by most players as there are hardly any players who wanna do it around that level.
but if your lucky then maybe some of the higher level people in your guild are willing too run you through those level 60 raids.
as far levels go for raiding those are: 60,70,80,85,90 some people prefer too ignore raids and level instead and comeback later for them ones they're 15-30 levels higher and can solo them instead.

Does anyone know where I can go like here or a web site or something to get the background necessary for what you need to have to be a good and helpful dungeon/raid/battleground participant, primarily as a damage dealer? What advice would you give for me to study and practice to be an effective participant without ever having to get kicked, although from what I read so far this is almost impossible to avoid?

Thanks so much Narragaan for your raiding/dungeon advice and wisdom. Sounds like it was earned over many dungeons and raids. Jimstick, I'll take your advice as well. I was kicked the first time I was in a raid because the leader felt I didn't have proper DPS but I had the highest of all in the group. Never liked that but chalked it up to the leader being a jerk. Now thanks to you both I can hopefully be prepaired ahead of time before entering the instances. Again thanks so very much to both of you.
